Hot off the presses (so to speak), the Dynamo have announced a 16-game local Spanish language
television broadcast deal with MultiMedios. MultiMedios had local Dynamo coverage from 2006-2009
and returns for the 2012 season to broadcast 16 games, all available in high definition.
Here's the press release on the deal:
HOUSTON, TX (Wednesday, February 8, 2012) -- The Houston Dynamo and Spanish-language television
partner MultiMedios Houston have reached a broadcast agreement for the 2012 season, it was
announced today.
While both teams already qualified for the London 2012 Olympiad there is a certain amount of
pride at play. For Canada's women this is an opportunity to declare that they deserve to be in that
top tier of teams challenging for Gold or Women's World Cups. With the Great White North hosting
the 2015 Women's World Cup it is matches like this and their second straight 20k+ crowd that
demonstrate that they are a top nation in the women's game.
Saturday The January camp moves from training to games, with the United States hosting Venezuela at
9pm on Galavision and ESPN3.com. A note to those of you unfamiliar with how ESPN3 works: it's

Verizon).
The holiday season is over and now its time to turn our attention to our regular business
coverage. We'll start 2012 with a potpourri of media related items. First, longtime ESPN soccer
personality Rob Stone has officially moved to Fox Soccer to serve as their primary soccer studio
host. He will be joined by former United States International Eric Wynalda who serve as the
primary studio analyst.
Comcast's NBC Sports Group who announced last August they were changing their Versus named channel

and U.S. National Team games. White has been the voice of the Seattle Sounders the last two season

As Revolution president Brian Bilello's self-imposed 7 day deadline approaches, we here at The
Bent Musket wanted to take a look at a few of the "serious" names on the short list of possible
candidates. With Paul Mariner re-upping his contract with Toronto FC (amazingly, Mariner re-signed
almost IMMEDIATELY after meeting with the Revs) New England was left with only a few truly solid
choices that made sense, followed by quite a few question marks.
South Jersey subscribers of Comcast now have access to the high definition broadcasts of Fox
Soccer Channel and GOL TV, according to Comcast.
Long awaited by soccer fans throughout the tri-state area, high-def versions of both premium
sports tier channels will bring Comcast's xfinity cable services in line with competitor Verizon,
which already has both channels in place in the area.
If the Philadelphia Union and the New York Red Bulls weren't considered to have a rivalry yet,
they certainly will after Thursday night. The two clubs face off in a game that may decide whether
or not the Red Bulls make the playoffs and if the Union claim first place in the Eastern Conference
in only their second season in MLS.
This Saturday's early kickoff between Wolves and Swansea may not be the match that everyone is
looking forward to this weekend (I would disagree for obvious reasons), but it looks like ESPN2 and

After a very impressive win on the road at Seattle, the Philadelphia Union (11-7-14) will play
their last home game of the season against the almost always struggling Toronto FC (6-13-13). With
a win or a draw today, the Union would clinch a playoff spot. Should the Union lose, then a New
York Red Bulls loss to Sporting Kansas City would also clinch a playoff spot for the Union.

After managing a draw on the road against Chivas USA, the Philadelphia Union (10-7-14) will take

It must be three or four weeks ago when I read that the FOX Network in the US had taken
the decision to show their first English Premier League game on the Network as part of their Sunday
coverage of the NFL. Whilst already having shown the UEFA Champions League Final live for the
previous two years, this represented the next step for soccer in the US market.

To say Portland has been a mercurial team would be an understatement.
This is a team that can give up a two goal lead at home against Toronto, follow it up with a 3-0
thrashing of LA, then go to lowly San Jose and eke out a 1-1 draw.

At 4-11-11, the New England Revolution hold the worst record in the east. And they hold the
ignominious honor of being the team the Union most thoroughly thrashed this season.

The Philadelphia Indpendence is back in the WPS Final for the second time in only their second
year of existence. After dropping last year's final 4-0 to FC Gold Pride, this year's motto has
been "unfinished business".
With the potential dangers of Hurricane Irene threatening the New England Revolution's trip to
face the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, Major League Soccer today announced the game has been
rescheduled for Wednesday, September 7th. The game will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. and is still slated to
air locally on Comcast SportsNet New England and nationally in Spanish on Galavision.
With the first positive impression of MLS on NBC from their promotion of it during Sunday Night
Football there can be speculation about how much they are going to run with it. Sure, MLS doesn't
have strong ratings (~300k viewers on ESPN2, ~70k on Fox Soccer) to merit strong promotion.
But there's a reason that NBC Sports will promote Major League Soccer in ways that the sport has
never been promoted before 2012.

Another busy week/weekend in American soccer. Before we get to the attendance picture, here
are a couple of other business notes from the last few days. We'll start in the world of
television, where Fox Soccer Plus has announced a free preview from August 22 to August 28. The
week long preview will include matches from Champions League, EPL, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

Do not feel bad if after taking a look down the Columbus Crew roster for Saturday's showdown you
find yourself scratching your head.
In a league designed to be dominated by superstars, the Crew have taken the industrious path
alongside team's like Real Salt Lake and Dallas.
We're only about 36 hours from the Union kicking off in Columbus against the Crew (8:00 PM
Eastern, The Comcast Network) in a matchup of the two top teams in Major League Soccer's Eastern
Conference. We'll have our preview up later today, but this one's going to be a big deal. Today's
open thread for all things Union and MLS.
I know a secondary Major League Soccer television package is not a big deal, but for NBC/Comcast it
shows that they are ready to get involved in all sports.
On Tuesday Major League Soccer announced games will be televised by NBC's networks starting next
season, doubling the number of homes that dozens of games will be available in.

The Philadelphia Union announced new signing Freddy Adu at a press conference at PPL Park today,
but that wasn't the big story of the event.
Adu, who last played in MLS with Real Salt Lake, was supposed to be the highlight of the
afternoon as the Union's presser aired online live on CSNPhilly.
Soccer By Ives reported on Thursday afternoon that Freddy Adu will be joining the Philadelphia
Union.
"Adu will be introduced as the Philadelphia Union's newest signing on Friday," the SBI report
said, "marking his return to MLS after four years in Europe, multiple sources confirmed to Fox
Soccer on Thursday.
Well here's an interesting subplot to the Union's 1-1 draw in Chicago, and particularly ahead of
Saturday's home match against Houston: despite a report posted today on Major League Soccer's
official website citing officials of Mexican side Veracruz that an acquisition of Carlos Ruiz's
rights from MLS has gone through, Philadelphia Union CEO and Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz told
Union play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera that this is not the case.
Now trailing the Columbus Crew in points for the first time this season, the Philadelphia Union
(8-5-7) will head west to try and redeem last Friday night's loss to the Colorado Rapids, by
picking up three points against the last place team in the Eastern Conference, Chicago Fire
(2-6-12). Kickoff at Toyota Park is scheduled for 9:06:30 PM ET.

This midweek fixture could not come at a better time for a Union team desperately trying to put
a poor showing against Colorado—their first home loss of the season—in the rear view
mirror.
It's been 17 months since DISH Network launched Fox Soccer Channel in HD. During that span of time,
several other satellite and cable providers have added the HD channel. But for the vast majority of

The English Premier League is coming to Philadelphia as last year's 7th place team, a for one
night only Tim Howard-less Everton, comes to PPL Park to take on the Philadelphia Union. For
Everton, this is a pre-season friendly and a trip similar to the Philadelphia Union's trip to
Greece earlier in the season.
