FC Boro 24 August @ 12:31 PM EST

It's been an interesting several months, a mixture of high, low and unbelievable moments which seem to be a regular occurrence as a Boro fan!Â

We finished last season well with a long unbeaten run and another Trophy win. However the 4th May 2009 will not be a day to remember as we surrendered a 3-1 lead at The Abbey.

Learning from history: How Benitez must avoid the mistakes made by Houllier

SoccerLens 18 May @ 09:23 AM EST

My Grandad always used to say "The Runners Up in anything are just the first losers". It is a notion that is unlikely to endear himself to the man who he refers to consistently as "Bennertez", as Rafa Benitez wakes up today contemplating being the "first loser" of this season's Premier League.

FC Boro 14 April @ 06:00 AM EST

After a fantastic 24 match unbeaten run it all came to a dramatic end a couple of weeks ago with defeat at Kidderminster, however bouncing back was key and last Tuesdays impressive 2-1 win against rivals Cambridge certainly showed that despite having injuries, suspensions and a terrible referee we are able to compete at the top end of the table.

Has time run out on Stoke City, Middlesbrough and West Brom?

SoccerLens 01 April @ 10:57 AM EST
The Premier League has had everything this season. From managers aplenty facing up to the sack to Steven Gerrard and a night club attack (allegedly!). But in all seriousness this season in England's top flight has undeniably been one of the most eventful and exciting campaigns ever and at both ends of the table. Click to continue reading...

Shearer swaps the sofa for Newcastle’s frying pan

SoccerLens 01 April @ 10:33 AM EST
I love Alan Shearer. May as well lay my cards on the table in my opening sentence, eh? Shearer the player was a hero of mine. Fiercely competitive (sometimes overly, I confess), a brute of a centre forward who took more knocks in his professional career than most, and still went back for more each [. Merthyr Tydfil: Footballing Martyrs living on the brink of extinction

SoccerLens 31 March @ 11:57 AM EST
A few days before England coasted to victory against Slovakia in World Cup qualification, Cardiff City cruised to a 3-0 mid-season friendly against Merthyr Tydfil. But while the result may have been meaningless, the match itself wasn't as the British Gas Business club needed every last penny from the game to ensure their survival. Click to continue reading...

Arsenal’s Golden Generation: Will Wenger’s squad ever live up to the high expectations?

SoccerLens 24 March @ 10:05 AM EST
"Man Utd had a golden generation with Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, the Nevilles and Butt and they won together because they stayed together. This team can have similar success. Normally big clubs do not educate young players any more." Arsene Wenger As shocking as it may seem, earlier this season, fans and the media were [. Click to continue reading...

Done Deal: Rafa Benitez signs contract extension at Liverpool through 2014

SoccerLens 18 March @ 08:40 PM EST
If you hear a lot of noise coming from the North West corner of England this morning, don't worry, it's just the entire red half of Merseyside breathing a huge collective sigh of relief. That sigh is of course in response to the wonderful news if you were one of the many Liverpool fans that [...] Click to continue reading...

The love affair is over: It’s time for Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United to part ways

SoccerLens 17 March @ 11:00 AM EST
There's been this misconception amongst football fans in England that Cristiano Ronaldo 'got Wayne Rooney sent off' at the last World Cup. Whilst I'll take Rooney's word for it, that it was his lack of balance after being repeatedly fouled which lead his football being placed in an unfortunate location, the fact of the matter [. No Deal or No Deal: The story of Adrian Ilie and Terek Grozny

SoccerLens 11 March @ 03:30 AM EST
Twenty-two minutes isn't long. Yet who knows how precious those short moments were to Ronaldo, finally back on a football pitch last week in Corinthians' 2-0 cup win over Itumbiara. After a year spent wrestling with the aftermath of more surgery and rehabilitation, and with the hurried panting of time becoming almost as loud in [. Click to continue reading...

Things are certainly looking up at the newly named Lamex stadium! We are on a twelve match unbeaten run and finally looking like we could be general promotion contenders but are the games in hand that teams around us have going to scorn our superb late form. The squad is looking good with dead slowly [. Click to continue reading...

So this is what it feels like? Damn you van Persie!!

Gruffgoat's Football Blog 28 January @ 09:48 PM EST
Ok, so I don't mean to curse Robin's magnificent strike in the 99.99999th minute of this afternoon's match (my time here in the US), but COME ON Everton, you can't squander 3 points like that!
Had I known that choosing a side would cause me this much heartache so soon, I would have rethought my new found allegiance to the Toffees. Click to continue reading...

Something strange happened this last Sunday

Gruffgoat's Football Blog 26 January @ 09:54 AM EST
Something quite strange happened to me on Sunday.
I was sitting at the kitchen table, drinking my coffee and enjoying an intense FA Cup derby between Everton FC and Liverpool FC when all of sudden, quite inexplicably, my heart began to warm toward those royal blue shirts.
I don't know what it was or when it happened exactly. Click to continue reading...

Where are America's Soccer Academies?

Gruffgoat's Football Blog 19 January @ 08:11 AM EST
I was reading up on the New York Times Soccer Blog a day or two ago, when we were discussing Marcus Tracy's signing with Aalborg Boldspilklub, and I think it's time to articulate a key difference with American soccer and soccer in the rest of the world.
The thing is, Tracy is already 22 years old and he's just now getting professional touches on the ball. Click to continue reading...

The lowering expectations at Broadhall Way

FC Boro 11 December @ 05:29 PM EST
Following several poor weeks and mind baffling interviews from the manager, players and chairman, I have decided to finally give up on promotion for this season and lower my expectations for every game I go to from now on. In May, Wallace spoke like a chairman should saying we needed someone with Conference experience who could get us [. Click to continue reading...

The Captaincy

FC Boro 12 November @ 04:59 AM EST
Stevenage have had a number of skippers leading the team out this season and at the moment Steve Morison is the man that Graham Westley believes is best suited to that role. My trip to Barrow

FC Boro 16 September @ 04:49 PM EST
Living here in Derbyshire as an exiled Boro' supporter, I only really get to see the away games at Burton, York and Mansfield and it does have its benefits, methinks after what had been a poor start to the season. However I decided to take in a trip with my son to Barrow to see if Boro could get [. Click to continue reading...

With the new season now well under way, a mixture of results and a division where anyone can beat anyone on their day leaves us in 18th place, but only 8 points off the top and 6 points off the play-offs. Attractive or winning football?

FC Boro 15 August @ 07:53 PM EST
In light of Graham Westley's recent comments on the official site where he talked about his aim to get Boro to play a more expansive game that is pleasing on the eye, even though he knows that a direct game would win football matches, I thought I'd give my views on this contentious issue. This is a topic that has been talked about nationally [. Click to continue reading...

With the season finally underway and two games under the belt it would be fair to say that it hasn't been the great start that I was hoping for! What is Liverpool’s best XI?

SoccerLens 09 January @ 10:00 AM EST
According to many observers, Rafael Benitez does not know his best eleven. Well, perhaps we as the Liverpool fans we should put forward our suggestions and see which one is the most popular. In my opinion, 4-4-2 with these players is the most balanced side Liverpool can put out. If it is played consistently and its a [. Click to continue reading...
