The best part of post-draft analysis is that everyone's opinion may be right. Hometown fans are
usually very optimistic and begin that glimmer of hope that this coming season might bring them a
championship.
Since nobody can prove my opinions wrong (yet), here is my take on the "super" winners , losers and
highlights of the day.
With all the talk of Kenny Cooper coming back to MLS to play for Portland, a couple readers
asked if I would post the current allocation order. Now some folks will wonder why Portland can get
Cooper if he does return, its simple, FC Dallas made an offer before he left for Germany a couple
years ago so they no longer hold his player rights here in MLS.
(Editor's note: This is part three of a series looking at how the Rapids will fill out an
expanded roster for 2011.)
The Rapids won an MLS cup with a team that relied on a midfield built to challenge balls,
disrupt attacks and allow little room for opponents.
Colorado midfielders spent a lot of energy.
The 2011 MLS Draft is less than 12 hours away, but it's never too late to project every single
pick in the draft.
It took us some time, and plenty of travel, but we've come up with a full 54-player draft. Every
team, every pick, every player.
No, we don't actually think we'll be right on all 54, or even most, but this Mock Draft should
help give you a sense of how players are rated heading into Thursday's Draft.

is: ______
- The 2nd round pick that Philadelphia sent to Columbus for Brian Carroll was originally acquired
from which team?
(Editor's Note: This is the fourth part in a series on what the Rapids will do with an
expanded roster in 2011.)
Who will be the sixth forward?
This is the key question for the Rapids attack as they start the 2011 season. The team has only
five forwards on its roster, and one is coming off a major knee injury.
(Editor's Note: This is the final part in a series looking at the Rapids expanded roster for
2011.)
Looking at the Rapids future has been an exercise in looking at what the team already possesses.
In considering signing a Designated Player, it's time to look outside the club.
Where is the rest of the league going, and do the Rapids need a Designated Player to keep
pace?

Burgundy Wave writer Chris 'Uz' White selected Davis Paul with the 36th overall pick when his
Colorado Rapids were on the clock.
Major League Soccer clubs have either opened up their training camp or about too. So it is a

There is little surprise that the team who made the single biggest splash this offseason is
ranked number one.
NEW YORK, NY Major League Soccer announced today that the Houston Dynamo will move to the Eastern
Conference in 2011. Combined with the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC joining MLS as
expansion clubs in 2011, the League now has two conferences of nine teams each. Upon joining MLS in
2006, Houston became the [.
Happy New Year to all our readers and best wishes in 2011!
The past year was a big one for American soccer. A good but not great World Cup run, a
highlight goal from Landon Donovan, and the controversial rehiring of Bob Bradley after the World
Cup. A first MLS Cup win by Colorado, the signings of Rafa Marquez and Thierry Henry by New York,
but maybe more importantly the rise of young players like Tim Ream, Teal Bunbury, Juan Agudelo, and
Andy Najar.

MLSSoccer.com has a piece on five rivalries to look forward to in 2011. Of the I-95 Corridor
derby you'll be happy to learn that "so many Union fans are ex-Screaming Eagles," that "the Sons of
Ben maintain United's animosity toward everything NY-related" and that "the Union [have] already
made major offseason acquisitions.

rating and was viewed by an estimated viewing audience of 610,000.
In comparison, the 2010 MLS Cup Final between Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas earned a 0.
Sunil Chhetri and the Indian national team get their AFC Asian Cup campaign started this week when
they take on Australia. It appears that Chhetri will have another set of eyes looking at him in the
game. Word out of Australia is that A-League side, Perth Glory, will be watching Chhetri with an
eye towards signing the forward.
Welcome back, friends and readers, from the holiday breather. I hope you are all refreshed and
ready to go as the new year starts and the championship hangover fades.
With the MLS roster now expanded from 24 to 30 players and the reserve league's rebirth, the
Rapids have to start the challenging process of putting together a roster that will be able to meet
a host of demands in 2011.
(Editor's note: This is part two of a series looking at how the Rapids will fill out an
expanded roster for 2011.)
There are only six defenders on the current roster, but there is probably no position in better
health for the Rapids. There's also no area that will tell more about the team's long-term plans
for captain Pablo Mastroeni, 34, than what Colorado does on defense.
The Fire have added former Uruguayan international Leo Percovich to the coaching staff as first
assistant to Carlos De Los Cobos. Percovich was most recently an assistant to Preki at Toronto FC
and Chivas USA while also acting as the Colorado Rapids goalkeepers coach in 2006-2007.
Percovich fills the spot vacated by Mike Matkovich after last season.
Now is the winter of MLS stars in the UK, and we could be about to see a new trend of players
coming to play in the EPL in the US close season. Whilst there were stirrings of disquiet when
Beckham first went to Milan, franchises are starting to see that having their players competing in
the EPL when not in MLS action could be very beneficial.

With the 2011 MLS SuperDraft taking place today, ussoccer.com examined the January camp roster to
gain some insight into their draft history. Overall, there are 19 players on the roster who
participated in the MLS Draft, and of those only one did not sign a contract. There are heaps of
first rounders and a few who went in the fourth, MLS Cup champions and several picked by the same
team.
An MLS Cup title left the Rapids in the worst of draft positions, and the team used its two
selections on Thursday to grab a couple of young defenders.
Defender was the spot most in need of depth going into the draft, and the Colorado Rapids used
the 18th and 36th picks to grab two college defenders.

was the case with the SuperDraft, the Union have the 5th, 23rd and 41st picks.

Omar Cummings won't be joining Aston Villa after all.
Cummings' attempt to secure a United Kingdom work permit was denied, meaning that the Colorado
Rapids striker won't be going to Aston Villa on loan as had been speculated for some time.
The roster of the Rapids is starting to take shape, and it looks like a lot of youth for the
2011 season.
The Rapids Tuesday selected forward Philip Bannister from Loyola University (Maryland) with the
last pick in the second round (36th overall) in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft. The club then
selected defender Javed Mohammed from the University of South Florida with the 54th overall
selection, which was the last in the 3rd round and of the draft.
Former New England Revolution goalkeeper Adin Brown is making his return to MLS. Brown will be
joining the expansion Portland Timbers for the 2011 season Timbers head coach John Spencer told
ExtraTime Radio on Tuesday.
Adin Brown became a fan favorite while backstopping the Revs to the MLS Cup in 2002.
The Rapids' Kosuke Kimura is big in Japan. Which is kinda fitting since is from there and all. I
have no idea what they're saying about him because I am an ignorant, English-only American but I
did hear the word "Beckham" in there towards the beginning. So I'm going to assume they were
talking about Colorado trading Kimura to LA for Becks because that's the only logical reason his
name would be brought up*.
We all knew some changes would have to be made for the conference alignments going into this
season with two western teams joining the league. At the end of the day the league looked at the
map of the US (and Canada) and went with what seems the most logical.
MLS announced today that the Houston Dynamo will move to the Eastern Conference in 2011.
Well, not literally, but the Dynamo have joined the Eastern Conference giving the league two
nine-team conferences this season with the addition of expansion franchises in Vancouver and
Portland.
Here's the alignment:

Seattle Sounders will have their second Community Shield match on 6 March, this year against MLS
Cup winners Colorado Rapids. With the Sounders being the current holders of the US Open Cup, the
match is truly analogous to the Community Shield matches in England. It's a great idea from MLS'
most forward-thinking club, and one that raised over $80,000 for local charities last year.
