Major League Soccer will play it's 15th season in 2010 as exclusive kit supplier Adidas enter into
year five of a ten year partnership with Major League Soccer. Several MLS teams will be receiving
an all new wardrobe courtesy of the '3 Stripes' while others will have to make do with last years
outfits.
A full write-up of last night's 1-0 win over Toronto coming in the next day or so, but I wanted to
post this ASAP. Deron White from the Colorado Rapids Examiner told me that he saw National Team
winger DaMarcus Beasley walking around the stadium with Cory Gibbs at tonight's game. Beasley is
currently riding the bench with Rangers in Scotland.
Yes indeed there is a new number one this week. I decided that you just can't be the top team in
the land and lose to New York. You just can't, so the Columbus Crew had to get bump down. So did
the Chicago Fire and the Houston Dynamo, who both lost this past week. The club who got the nod at
the top is kind of shocking based on how things started out this season.
A few of you have been wondering where the MLS Allocation Order stands now that FC Dallas has
(finally) used their top spot to sign Heath Pearce.
Now the Rapids have the top spot. With very little bit left in the season I doubt Rapids or
anyone remotely below them will be able to use their spots in the order.
Today we hear from Regis University men's soccer coach Tony McCall, and we take a look at the
Colorado School of Mines men's and women's teams, Colorado Rapids coach Gary Smith's comments on
the Ugo Ihemelu trade, my votes for Major League Soccer player of the month, the Super Classico
between Chivas USA and Los Angeles Galaxy and more!
There are only a couple sure-things in MLS rankings this week. Columbus is the surefire No. 1 team
in the league right now.
The 11-15 spots are all reserved too (Real Salt Lake, Dallas, K.C., San Jose and New York).
Other than that, it's a mess. The playoff race is crazier than Kanye West at the VMAs.
The Major League Soccer season continues into the last several weeks with the playoff race
heating up. The Los Angeles Galaxy recovered with a nice 2-0 victory as David Beckham scored again.
The Columbus Crew had a win over the Houston Dynamo and remained on top in the power rankings. The
Kansas City Wizards won again to move back into the playoff picture as they now have 30 points.
Major League Soccer has fined Colorado Rapids captain Pablo Mastroeni $1,250 and suspended him
two games for endangering the safety of Houston Dynamo defender Andrew Hainault on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the 63rd minute of the Rapids' 1-0 victory at Dick's Sporting Goods
Park. Watch it here.

And just with one weekend the playoff race really cleared up in my eyes. I may end up being
wrong about a team or two but for the most part I have a pretty good feeling about six of the clubs
that should be in the playoffs this season.
As we near the final few weeks of the season the playoff race continues to be one of the hottest
in recent memory. Four clubs are gunning for the Supporter's Shield trophy while another seven are
just gunning for a playoff spot in general.
I figured with a few games left on nearly all the club's season menus it was time to look once
again at the schedules to see who has what points left out there to grab.
I may be on vacation getting ready for my wedding but I did spare a second to do some game
pickings. Yes the previews are going to be kept mighty short but thankfully we only have three
games to deal with. I guess the league decided three games would be enough of a break during an
international window of World Cup qualifiers.
It was a smaller weekend of matches in Major League Soccer as there was World Cup Qualifying and
most teams had byes. There were three matches this weekend, all on Saturday, which included New
England v Kansas City, DC v Toronto, and Colorado v Toronto. Here's a full recap of all the matches
along with video highlights.
Did you notice there were three games this weekend?
No? Don't worry, neither did anyone else. Average attendance this weekend was barely over
10,000.
Though there were 11 goals and four red-cards so it sounds like there was some entertainment.
In the end, all the games did have playoff ramifications (Colorado did itself good), so be sure you
see the scores and you memorize them.
It was a light schedule in Major League Soccer with World Cup Qualifying so the Power Rankings for
this week have not changed much. A few teams who did play, the Colorado Rapids and Kansas City
Wizards, did move up as they both had wins. The Rapids improved their playoff chances with a 1-0
win at home against Toronto FC while the Wizards won at New England with a 4-2 victory.
Big Story
Danny Dichio's retirement last Wednesday meant emotions ran high during
the 24th minute of the first half during Toronto FC's 3-2 win against the Colorado Rapids yesterday
at BMO Field. It was the 24th minute when Dichio scored Toronto FC's first ever club goal against
the Chicago Fire on May 13th 2007, and fans in the south stand have chanted his name at the same
minute of play at every home game ever since.
Imagine the array of emotions for Ryan Johnson on Friday night. The San Jose Earthquakes striker
scored his team's only goal in the eighth minute of a 1-1 tie against the Colorado Rapids. Then the
24-year-old committed the foul deep into extra time that produced a penalty kick for Colorado and
the Rapids' only goal.

With the majority of the European seasons off due to the international date, this weekend boasts
a plethora of international matches for all to watch.
The game most Americans are looking forward to will be on Saturday night as the United States
takes on El Salvador in a critical World Cup qualifier, a qualifier that could give the U.
The 2010 World Cup is still ten months away but today's matches will go a long way in
determining which teams will be competing in the event.
World Cup qualifiers from Europe to South America, Asia to North America, headline today's
action. You have high-profile match-ups like Brazil-Argentina and Denmark-Portugal, and great
CONCACAF match-ups like USA-El Salvador and Mexico-Costa Rica.
The Colorado Rapids played their prettiest soccer in the 2-2 home draw against
Seattle earlier this season. They have played their most professional soccer in the last two home
victories which included a tight 1-0 win over Toronto last night.
Sometimes, it's about digging deep and finding ways to win.
Press Release Springfield Soccer Club Announces Changes to Administrative Structure
The Springfield Soccer Club is pleased to announce that beginning January 1, 2010 Eric Sorlie

field.
To follow up last week's post about the teams who had been seen by the largest percentage of fans,
I ran the numbers to determine which teams had been seen by the smallest percentage of fans.
There have been 35 teams that were seen by less than 15% of the fans attending games that season.
The only year no team fell below this threshold was 2002.

I guess you could really say its just been a rather slow week in terms of news. Sure rosters
were finalized on Tuesday night for the rest of the year and the league announced their big break
next summer but other than that it's been rather calm in Major League Soccer this week.

There's not too many more weekends left in the 2009 regular season. Week 27 is a full one as we
gear towards the playoffs in a few weeks. With so many clubs still in contention the action this
weekend should promise to be very good.
Week 27 in Major League Soccer proved to be a good one for a couple clubs and another tough one
for some others. One thing that is clear is the playoff race is still as tight as it was for the
past few weeks.
One club that cashed in on a good weekend by not even playing was DC United.
Days after needing a last gasp equalizer to draw with San Jose, the Colorado Rapids have announced
two of their midfielders are done for the season. Jacob Petersen will need surgery to repair a torn
anterior cruciate ligament suffered in Wednesday's game. Jamie Smith's recovery from surgery on his
left knee will not be in time to factor in 2009.

The race for the final MLS playoff spots continued to heat up over the past weekend. A number of
contending teams failed to grab the appropriate result needed in order to maintain confidence in a
late playoff run. The three teams on the outside looking in, Real Salt Lake, D.
The Rapids Undercurrent, has a new post with some stuff from coach Gary Smith with a bunch more on
Ihemelu and Moor.
A new leader. The Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Beckham Experiment: first place? Who knew? But Landon Donovan, Beckham and Co. have been
playing superbly of late. And they were the only team in this week's top four that didn't lose last
weekend.
N.E. continues to rise up the charts. Real Salt Lake, Colorado and D.
COLORADO RAPIDS VS. TORONTO FC
Dick's Sporting Goods Park - Saturday 10PM EST

It's one of those glorious little quirks of Major League Soccer that helps hold it back in the eyes
of Eurosnobs and naysayers here and abroad.
This realization has taken a few weeks longer this season, but it's still just as painful. After
watching TFC shit the bed this past weekend in Colorado, my faith in our ability to bounce back and
hit a good run of form is effectively dead. I'm not too urked by a 1-0 loss away to the Rapids -
they've been a good team this year.
Players can be a little forgetful of the details and the Colorado Rapids are no different. On a
whiteboard in the locker room, they are this week being urged not to forget their passports as they
travel to Canada. More tellingly, there is also a note on that same board that reads "If you are
healthy and not suspended, you are traveling.
One thing I like to do before I go on any trip is make sure my place is decently clean for my
return. Well in the case of this past week for my wedding/honeymoon I was all prepared on that
level except for when it came to getting back in the swing of things for soccer stuff. I came back
into town this past weekend and saw a slew of random scores in Major League Soccer.
It was a busy week in Major League Soccer with a full set of matches starting with a midweek
match (KC Wizards at DC United). The Columbus Crew played the Houston Dynamo in a matchup of the
top teams in both Conferences which was the marquee match of the weekend. Overall the playoff races
are getting closer and closer with only another month left in the regular season.
The Week 26 Major League Socer Power Rankings have had some significant changes from last week.
The Columbus Crew have the top spot with a win over Houston while the Los Angeles Galaxy dropped
after a disappointing 3-6 lost to Dallas. Other teams moving up are FC Dallas and the Kansas City
Wizards who both got much needed wins.
After a week off due to a low number of games (three), the power rankings return in full force.
We have some change all around this week after a slew of games this past week. The top changes, as
does some near the bottom.
Right now it appears that clubs 1-5 are pretty much set. After that 6-11 are a real mess each
week with clubs moving all around that area left and right.
Perhaps the most difficult to do this week (aside from getting information on ESPN 360's
schedule while in Europe) is limiting the games in the list of the weekly best to just five. Unlike
a few weeks ago, there are no major marquee matchups, but there are just so many good ones to
choose from.
The road to the MLS Cup.
Things are starting to clear up in the MLS playoff race, chase, whatever you want to call it.
Columbus (East No. 1), Houston (West No. 1), Chicago (East No. 2) and Los Angeles (West No. 2) have
a solid lead on the guarantee berths.
The wildcard berths at this point look headed to Seattle, Chivas USA, Colorado and D.
Week 27 is down and in the books. Only a few weeks left to go and this regular season will be
finished. This weeks rankings saw yet another shift around the middle of the order but for the most
part a good chunk of clubs stayed put from last week's table.
Still, the top four and the bottom four are the same that we've seen for the last few months
that's one thing that has remained consistent here.
I didn't have much time to check out the MLS action this weekend. A certain nation-rattling college
football upset had my attention on Saturday.
My opinions will have to be based on results and recaps.
We did have a GBS sighting as the Argentine scored two second-half goals to give the Crew a 2-2
draw at Chicago.
