Sometimes I cannot help myself when I read something or hear it through a source; I just have to
talk about it and share my feelings on the subject. Yesterday evening when I was doing my nightly
MLS reading for the day I came across an article on the Sideline Views blog about how bad [...]
We all knew this draft would be interesting. After seeing San Jose trade away the number one pick
for a player that many think wasn't worthy enough for a number one pick, we all figured this draft
would be crazy. And it kinda was really. Seeing players like Patrick Nyarko slip (to number 7) and
Eric [.
Nearing the end of the work week but things are starting to heat up around the MLS as we head into
the MLS Combine. Plenty to discuss today after a couple deals were talked about and made yesterday.
It appears that Claudio Lopez is close to signing with a MLS club, most likely, DC United if [...]
Ah, finally Friday, lots more to discuss as we go into the weekend. Lots and lots of rumors out
there, most of them are just that, they are rumors. Most of them are pretty bad, and some sites out
there seem to create rumors just for the fun of it I think. Anyways, time to start [...]
After a little seriousness this morning, I will switch back into rumor talk and give you all a
little bit of what I am looking at today. So far this week its been fairly light and slow on the
news front in the MLS. Maybe it has something to do with what was discussed earlier [...]
Happy Monday to ya, hope everyone had a nice weekend. A lot of goodies to talk about today after
the MLS Combine this past weekend. Also a couple transfer updates to mention. Not a lot went down
on that front over the weekend but expect it to be a busy week since we are going [...]
Well, the 2008 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft is over. Or close enough to for me to type out
this little post, which, in the grand scheme, is a blank slate with a couple words stenciled on it.
I may not always be informative, but at least I'm honest. As promised, I'm going [...]
Almost thought I was going to get a late start to the day but here we are, in the final week of the
winter transfer window. Lots of action is already starting to pick up here in the week as teams are
trying to vye for a player or two before the window closes. I was [...]
Plenty of updates to talk about here today. All mostly from the MLS SuperDraft that took place on
Friday. Also I've updated this list to show the draft day trades. If anything is missing or looks
out of place just let me know and I will get it changed ASAP. Chicago Fire: Incoming: Patrick
Nyarko - via SuperDraft
Okay, so most of you know by now that I get pretty annoyed with some rumor sites out there that
fail to check facts and get their information straight before the post a rumor. I kinda wanted to
take this morning and debunk (is that even a word?!) some of those rumors that I've seen [...]
The eve of the MLS Superdraft is here. Lots of deals could be worked out today, many of which I
will keep a close eye on for you all. Lots of draft talk to discuss, some teams still looking to
trade picks and players and it looks like DC United's roster overhaul is kicking up [...]
A few moves added this week. Davino to Dallas, Mathis to some Greek club and the Cannon trade to
San Jose. I expect plenty of moves next week as we go into the MLS draft. As a couple clubs will
look to deal some players and picks. I know Dallas is still trying to sell Carlos [...]
I stumbled across this article yesterday on Pitch Invasion and had to show you all what I found.
They posted the jerseys for 11 of the 14 clubs for this year. Everyone but Toronto, LA and Colorado
were shown. Why not all 14? I think it is due to LA getting new jerseys in the middle [...]
To me it seems like this year's draft is a sign that the MLS is slowly moving away from doing
drafts like this. A hand-ful of clubs will be mere spectators on Friday while a couple will be busy
doing all the work. More teams are placing value on the recent rule changes for international [...]
MLSRumors, god bless 'em - and do note the title, people - posted the coolest damn rumor today
about a delicious mega-deal in the works between DC United and the Colorado Rapids. Here are the
details and, so far as I've seen, they're posted only on MLSRumors: "The buzz now is that there may
be [...]
Busy day so far for the MLS. I will try to be fairly brief on some things since they have already
been talked about in length on here before. Anyways, let's get the biggest stuff out of the way, DC
has announced the signings of four of their five new players. Gonzalo Martinez (left), Gonzalo
Peralta, [.
Hello Tuesday to ya. Many of you going back to work after the long weekend. The Hooligan didn't
rest however as Monday was a fairly busy day for me here (and I did have to go into the office and
work). A few things to get into this morning. Chivas USA keeper Brad Guzan, hot off a [...]
Only a couple more days (if you count today) in this winter transfer window. Lots of teams are
hoping to see it pass while some others are wishing it wouldn't go away as soon as it does. Its
been fairly slow in this final week of the transfer window in the MLS. Sure there have been [...]
Good morning to you all, on this Martin Luther King Day here. I got a bit of a late start so I will
just give you a little overview of what I am looking at and hearing until I get the time to settle
in this morning to really write up some things. First off, as [...]
Along with the recent departure of Nick Garcia, the news that Jose Burciaga Jr is going to
Colorado for more draft picks reveals signs that the Wizards will be looking to play a new
formation. The lineup will feature 1 defender (who needs more than Jimmy Conrad anyway?), 6 in
the midfield, and 3 strikers.
The MLS Supplemental Draft will take place today at 3pm and the results of the draft are to be
revealed after 4pm. For those who care, Buzz over at 3rddegree released his list of the best of the
rest out there that weren't taken in last week's draft. Even for those who don't care, the
Supplemental draft [.
Most of the updates for this past week are reflecting the Supplemental Draft though a couple teams
were busy. DC transfered in a couple players, while a few clubs waived a hand-ful or so. Still a
week left in the current transfer window so we will see what happens between now and then. As
always, see something [.
Time to check around the league, to make sure the movement has generally been normal and regular. -
May as well start with the problem: the blockage keeping Taylor Twellman from leaving the New
England Revolution for England's Preston North End. And, here I was, all set to bang out a "Free
Taylor" post, only [.
As much as I would love to be in Baltimore for the MLS SuperDraft today, I will not be. Work here
in Dallas is keeping me from being able to attend and report from there but it doesn't keep me from
writing about it before, during and after it. Plenty of little nuggets to throw [...]
One final working day this week for most of us out there. Sorry for any delay in not posting the
Supplemental picks yesterday, I was too busy with work last night to even think about them until
this morning. My thoughts are below about that. More pressing issues though still surround DC
United and their situation [.
OK, I think I've settled on my two teams for 2008 as well as a proper theme to unite them...beyond
the fact they both hail from places that start with the letter "C". The teams will be the Columbus
Crew and the Colorado Rapids. While this will mostly involve watching them at every chance I [...]
Good Wednesday to you all. Plenty of stuff out there to discuss as the transfer season is in full
swing and the rumors are kicking up like crazy here. It looks as though lots of clubs are taking
advantage of the new roster rules for signing international players, as most of the rumors that I
[...]
Good afternoon (or late morning to those west-coasters out there). Lots of interesting developments
to get into before the draft starts. Feel free to pipe in your comments as the draft goes on. First
things first.... From what I am hearing, KC is set to draft Chance Myers with the first overall
pick.
A whole lotta talk this week about whether or not the San Jose Earthquakes will actually use the
number one pick in this week's draft or trade it away and move down the drafting board. And the
more I look at it the more it makes sense for a number of clubs to package a [...]
Fox Soccer Channel will host their first-ever MLS doubleheader when the new season kicks off on
March 29. FSC will air both the Houston Dynamo-New England Revolution MLS Cup rematch at 7:30pm
(ET) followed by the LA Galaxy-Colorado Rapids 'we both missed the playoffs' match at 9:30pm
(ET).
The network will begin their broadcast at 7pm with a 30-minute pre-game show and will conclude with
a 30-minute post game after the LA-Rapids game.
American defender Josh Grenier. The rumor mill lately has him making a move back to the US. RSL
was rumored to have been interested in him. The Colorado Rapids are rumored to be looking to bring
home an American defender. Will we see Josh signing with an MLS club soon?
As reported earlier here, Christian Gomez and DC look to be ending their relationship. But where
could he end up is the bigger question to dive into now. Steve Goff is reporting that he was
offered a contract in the Middle East at around $600K but he said he does want to remain in the MLS
[...]
Tucked in a bunch of other player movement items, Goff effectively buries the lead...at least so
far as Colorado Rapids fans are concerned. Citing a "source with knowledge of a possible trade"
Goff reports now-former DC United midfielder Christian Gomez's move to the Colorado Rapids only
waits on the blessing.
Almost the end of the what's been a fairly long week for me at work and in my personal life. Plenty
to discuss today most surrounding Marcelo Gallardo plus a couple other things that I am hearing and
seeing around the MLS world. As mentioned, first, this story with Marcelo Gallardo to DC United.
Some reports [.
This weekend the Rapids posted a write up of the off-season by assistant coach John Murphy. I'd
like to highlight his comments on the draft. Specifically the following:
I feel that people still tend to look at the MLS Draft as they do in football and other
sports, but that is a misconception.
In spite of the fact that the entire country seems under the thumb of a brutal winter, the Columbus
Dispatch's blog caught a sunbreak over Columbus: Guillermo Barros Schelotto reported for duty as
scheduled. Now, if they can only bag Polish forward Maciej Zurawski - and he plays half as well as
advertised (I've never seen [.
Sources tell me that the Eddie Johnson transfer to Fulham is almost done and we should hear final
confirmation within the next day or so. Johnson and his agent, Richard Motzkin, are in London
finalizing the deal that is expected to net Major League Soccer close to $6 million in transfer
fees, which would easily shatter [.
That's right, according to the Chicago Tribune's Luis Arroyave the Rapids are after Pat Noonan
and that San Jose is still in the hunt for Pablo Mastroeni. The catch with Noonan is that as of
right now he is out of contract. Despite his injuries in 2006, the Revolution gave Noonan a huge
bump in pay with a one-year contract extension.
Looks like Pat Noon will soon be in......... Norway.
Andrew Jacobson has decided to sign with FC Lorient of the French football league instead of MLS
and DC United who drafted him. So far as I know, he is the first drafted player to sign outside of
MLS, however I expect a few more to announce their intentions to spurn MLS.
To me, this isn't a huge loss.
