Its been a long while since I updated this projected order, mainly because I knew there would be a
slew of trades that would come down to shake up this order. And let's be honest, we've seen plenty
of deals this year that included draft picks. With Monday's trade deadline looming, I figured we
could bring [.
Sometimes I cannot help myself when I read something or hear it through a source; I just have to
talk about it and share my feelings on the subject. Yesterday evening when I was doing my nightly
MLS reading for the day I came across an article on the Sideline Views blog about how bad [...]
We all knew this draft would be interesting. After seeing San Jose trade away the number one pick
for a player that many think wasn't worthy enough for a number one pick, we all figured this draft
would be crazy. And it kinda was really. Seeing players like Patrick Nyarko slip (to number 7) and
Eric [.
Nearing the end of the work week but things are starting to heat up around the MLS as we head into
the MLS Combine. Plenty to discuss today after a couple deals were talked about and made yesterday.
It appears that Claudio Lopez is close to signing with a MLS club, most likely, DC United if [...]
While we are still waiting on a few deals to go through and since the transfer window has passed,
it is probably as good of a time as ever to look back at the last month or so of action in the MLS
and look at the deals that went through and what it means [...]
This is a subject near and dear to my heart due to my history of being in the broadcast world over
the last few years. I've been working on coming up with some sort of guide for people for when it
comes to who they will probably be listening to on a broadcast of a [...]
A lot has been made of the players this summer who have left Major League Soccer for higher wages
in Europe. I figured since today was a slower news day I would take a look at the next group of
guys that could potentially cash in on a move across the pond. Feel free to give [...]
Ah, finally Friday, lots more to discuss as we go into the weekend. Lots and lots of rumors out
there, most of them are just that, they are rumors. Most of them are pretty bad, and some sites out
there seem to create rumors just for the fun of it I think. Anyways, time to start [...]
After a little seriousness this morning, I will switch back into rumor talk and give you all a
little bit of what I am looking at today. So far this week its been fairly light and slow on the
news front in the MLS. Maybe it has something to do with what was discussed earlier [...]
Happy Monday to ya, hope everyone had a nice weekend. A lot of goodies to talk about today after
the MLS Combine this past weekend. Also a couple transfer updates to mention. Not a lot went down
on that front over the weekend but expect it to be a busy week since we are going [...]
Well, the 2008 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft is over. Or close enough to for me to type out
this little post, which, in the grand scheme, is a blank slate with a couple words stenciled on it.
I may not always be informative, but at least I'm honest. As promised, I'm going [...]
Almost thought I was going to get a late start to the day but here we are, in the final week of the
winter transfer window. Lots of action is already starting to pick up here in the week as teams are
trying to vye for a player or two before the window closes. I was [...]
Plenty of updates to talk about here today. All mostly from the MLS SuperDraft that took place on
Friday. Also I've updated this list to show the draft day trades. If anything is missing or looks
out of place just let me know and I will get it changed ASAP. Chicago Fire: Incoming: Patrick
Nyarko - via SuperDraft
Happy end-of-the-work-week to you all. I must say it is definitely a TGIF kind of Friday for this
guy here, its been a hectic week of work in my normal job and the MLS thankfully has kept me on my
toes enough to say the least as well. Let's get down to it though for the [...]
Okay, so most of you know by now that I get pretty annoyed with some rumor sites out there that
fail to check facts and get their information straight before the post a rumor. I kinda wanted to
take this morning and debunk (is that even a word?!) some of those rumors that I've seen [...]
The eve of the MLS Superdraft is here. Lots of deals could be worked out today, many of which I
will keep a close eye on for you all. Lots of draft talk to discuss, some teams still looking to
trade picks and players and it looks like DC United's roster overhaul is kicking up [...]
I suppose it is never too early to start looking ahead to next January's SuperDraft. I've started
compiling a list of what should be the projected order in that draft. I will continue to update
this list up until the official list is released by the league (probably a couple weeks before the
draft knowing [.
The biggest lesson to be learned from the 2008 MLS attendance figures? The more the LA Galaxy suck,
the more people will go to their games. In 2007 they almost made the playoffs but didn't, and their
figures were best in the league. In 2008 they were even worse and their numbers [...]
If the following report is accurate, the 22 year old former PSV Eindhoven and fringe US national
team midfielder may be headed back home if a planned move to Vietnam's V-League doesn't work out.
Nguyen may chose a stint in MLS to re-enter the US National Team picture in a bigger way. A move to
the Rapids would be a bit closer to Dallas where he has family.
Okay, time for the weekly update in player movement. A few transactions this week but nothing too
major. Here is what went down, I know a couple more things were reported but I wanted to wait on
them before I got full confirmation on them... (SJ) INCOMING: Ramiro Corrales - via transfer Brann
(Norway) (LA) TRADE: Quavas Kirk [.
A few moves added this week. Davino to Dallas, Mathis to some Greek club and the Cannon trade to
San Jose. I expect plenty of moves next week as we go into the MLS draft. As a couple clubs will
look to deal some players and picks. I know Dallas is still trying to sell Carlos [...]
I stumbled across this article yesterday on Pitch Invasion and had to show you all what I found.
They posted the jerseys for 11 of the 14 clubs for this year. Everyone but Toronto, LA and Colorado
were shown. Why not all 14? I think it is due to LA getting new jerseys in the middle [...]
To me it seems like this year's draft is a sign that the MLS is slowly moving away from doing
drafts like this. A hand-ful of clubs will be mere spectators on Friday while a couple will be busy
doing all the work. More teams are placing value on the recent rule changes for international [...]
MLSRumors, god bless 'em - and do note the title, people - posted the coolest damn rumor today
about a delicious mega-deal in the works between DC United and the Colorado Rapids. Here are the
details and, so far as I've seen, they're posted only on MLSRumors: "The buzz now is that there may
be [...]
Busy day so far for the MLS. I will try to be fairly brief on some things since they have already
been talked about in length on here before. Anyways, let's get the biggest stuff out of the way, DC
has announced the signings of four of their five new players. Gonzalo Martinez (left), Gonzalo
Peralta, [.
With the MLS season nearly upon us, I will continue SoccerLens' buildup to the new season by having
a look at each team's new kit for 2008. The MLS is unique because, unlike other leagues, Adidas
does all of the kits by agreement with the league. Here are the 08 MLS kits (click on the
thumbnails [...
Not a lot to report this week in terms of movement. Really a slow week for transfers and moves in
the MLS but there was a couple to mention. (CHI) Outgoing: Matt Pickens - via free transfer Queen's
Park Rangers (England) (CHV) Incoming: Raphaël Wicky - transfer FC Sion (Switzerland) (COL)
Incoming: Christian Gomez - [.
Yesterday the MLS board of governors met to discuss a wide variety of topics, one being the naming
of MLS clubs in this expansion era of the league. Seattle begins play next year. Philadelphia will
follow the year after in 2010. St. Louis is seen as the odds-on favorite for a 2011 expansion bid,
and Montreal, [.
Just how bad is it in the LA Galaxy organization right now? Bad enough that some heads could roll
after yesterday's surprising loss on the road to expansion side San Jose. Yesterday, SI.com's Jonah
Freedman uncovered some very interesting things going on with the Galaxy, AEG president and CEO Tim
Lieweke visited the Galaxy locker room [.
Hello Tuesday to ya. Many of you going back to work after the long weekend. The Hooligan didn't
rest however as Monday was a fairly busy day for me here (and I did have to go into the office and
work). A few things to get into this morning. Chivas USA keeper Brad Guzan, hot off a [...]
One of the more hotly discussed items yesterday was the talk about the MLS restricting club
supporters for away games this season. A great article over at Pitch Invasion got the topic going
yesterday with plenty of other sites chiming in on the issue. What seems to be the issue is that
clubs like Toronto and [.
The streets in Denver are full of chatter these days. Most of it is folks talking about when
they're going to go skiing because they have barely used their Colorado Pass this winter. But a few
folks have been saying that the Rapids have signed Christian Gomez from DC United. It's a done deal
and just a matter of making the announcement.
Ah, the names that might have been....
While we wait for Philadelphia to decide on a name we look back on some attempts to name or rebrand
current MLS clubs.
Yes we all laughed at Penn Jersey Independence FC but there are other names which could have stuck
elsewhere around the league.
As we've reported here before, it appears USA and Colorado Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni is set
for a move to Europe in January, the only question is where.
While a handful of Italian clubs (such as Cagliari, Catania, and Palermo) have been whispered to
have interest, LFV friend Nick Thomas is reporting that interest is also coming from Spain's Real
Betis and Malaga.
Most teams took the week off except for ones up in the northeast. Not a real surprise since most
clubs are in pre-season mode right now and are zoning in on a roster that they all want. Some still
have some trialists left in camp and we will see this week more likely if any [...]
Only a couple more days (if you count today) in this winter transfer window. Lots of teams are
hoping to see it pass while some others are wishing it wouldn't go away as soon as it does. Its
been fairly slow in this final week of the transfer window in the MLS. Sure there have been [...]
A few moves this week mostly sparked by trades between clubs as they all get salary cap compliant
by tomorrow evening. I'm sure more waivers will be made today and tomorrow, if not some more trades
to go along with it. Here are the moves of the past week: Trade: Ronnie O'Brien to San Jose from
Toronto Trade: [.
The Colorado Rapids had just about the worst offense in the league last season. They finished dead
last in the West in goals scored. They also averaged less than one goal a game, a feat matched only
by newbie Toronto FC. It wasn't just last year either. The Rapids have played great D for years,
but they've been plagued [.
Good morning to you all, on this Martin Luther King Day here. I got a bit of a late start so I will
just give you a little overview of what I am looking at and hearing until I get the time to settle
in this morning to really write up some things. First off, as [...]
Happy Friday to one and all, I figured I would get a few news tidbits out of the way before I
hammered out those weekend previews/predictions. I'm glad its the end of the week and that there is
plenty of soccer to be viewed starting tonight in Boston with New England and Dallas (followed by
[...]
