Did I overstate it in the headline? Perhaps. Or perhaps, I'm dead on. To find out, I talk to Jonathan Tannenwald who covers the Union for philly.com. And just to get the full perspective, I talk to Taylor Twellman, who did color commentary for Union broadcast last season, to get his input.

Why Colombia?

Anyone who has read anything on Soccer Soap Box pretty quickly sorts out that I am a US Soccer supporter (and occasional complainer.) But after the United States, the country that gets the most coverage here is undoubtedly Colombia. Colombia is, after all, my adopted-by-marriage second country.

I've also been over-sharing Colombian related ideas lately because I was recently visiting the country (my ninth such visit if my math is correct) at the same time as my local team the New England Revolution was adding two and a half Colombian players and MLS is seeing an influx of Colombian talent.

Coaching A Revolution: Are Heaps Of Passion Enough?

I thought I might be writing about a coach tonight, but certainly not like this. I hoped to offer commentary on Juergen Klinsmann and his lackluster start with the US Men's National Team.

But since I've not even finished watching the USA v France game on DVR, and still don't feel the US fan corner I watched the game from in France allowed me much perspective (too much fan-watching, too bad an angle).

Coaching changes aren't usually fodder for this website, but since the Revs have reached into their broadcast booth when grabbing a coach for the 2012 version of the team, we can file this under media coverage of the team. Heaps retired after the 2009 season and spent two years paired with Brad Feldman while providing color commentary.

That appears to be every non-FSC or ESPN game, and the two ESPN games will be rebroadcast on Altitude. When the games overlap a Nuggets or Avalanche game the game will be on Altitude 2.

Thought I'd start with a provocative title. So, I'm new to this blog. I've been contributing over at the LA Galaxy blog (http://lagalaxy.theoffside.com/) for just a little while and was looking for a place to jump in and talk about the USMNT. I go by the moniker DAS because my name David was just too common and I thought the initials sounded a little more mysterious.

The recently retired Urban Meyer was never outgoing with the press when he was leading the Florida Gators. Now he'll get a taste of the other side after signing a contract to work for ESPN. His duties will include color commentary in addition to studio analysis. The 46-year-old has a coaching record of 104-23 with Floria, Utah and Bowling Green.

How long until concussions change soccer equipment?

In the middle of this long New Yorker article about the impact of concussions on NFL players, there's a tiny paragraph about soccer with an interesting assertion:

Troy Polamalu suggested soccer as an alternative for squeamish fans. But soccer players collide sometimes, too (Taylor Twellman, a forward with the New England Revolution, recently retired because of ongoing symptoms from a neck injury sustained in 2008), and the ball is harder than you think.
