The Mizzou soccer team has announced its spring schedule, which features home games against Iowa (March 9) and SLU (April 20) and a contest with the new National Women's Soccer League's FC Kansas City squad (March 20). The Tigers will also face Oklahoma State (March 2) and Nebraska (April 13) in Kansas City.

The 2012 NCAA Women's College Cup kicks off tonight in San Diego, Calif. Semifinal matches are at 7:30 and 10 p.m. The national championship match of the NCAA Women's College Cup will be played 3 p.m. on December 2nd.
Stanford are the defending champions, defeating Duke 1-0 last year.

The Quarterfinals were played Friday and defending champions Stanford return to the College Cup for a showdown with North Carolina in the semifinals November 30th.
The Penn State women's soccer team (20-3-2) earned a 1-0 victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night to earn its fourth ever trip to the Women's College Cup and first appearance since 2005.
The opening round pairings have been announced for the MIAA Women's Soccer Championships to be played on campus sites. Central Missouri who won the regular season championship on Saturday night enters the weekend at the tournaments top seed. All first round games will be played on Oct. 30 at the site of the higher seeded team.
The Men's team lose in the first OT at home to UMSL while the Women took nationally 13th-ranked Quincy to penalty kicks, but fell 2-0 to the Hawks in Sunday's opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Soccer Championships.
For the Men, UMSL's Thomas Mihalczo's deflected shot from 15 yards out bounced into an empty net seven minutes into overtime, lifting sixth-seed Missouri St.
Congrats to freshman Molly Brewer, chosen as the Freshman of the Year for the Missouri Valley Conference by College Sports Madness.

(Springfield, Mo.) Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla)'s goal in the 108th minute (pictured) gave the
Missouri S&T Lady Miners a 2-1 double OT win over Washburn on Sunday in Springfield, Mo. It's the
first time the Lady Miners have started a season 2-0 since 2003 when they opened with three
straight wins.
The Lions opened at UMSL on Friday afternoon and built upon the foundation laid in last year's
late season run to the MIAA Championship, earning a tie at under difficult conditions. Playing on a
rain-soaked pitch, in a game halted at one point due to tornado warnings, the team earned a point
on the road against a GLVC Tourney qualifier.
I've updated my calendars for the area teams I'll be tracking this season. All of the teams are
in action this weekend and there are some interesting games on tap. Here are the current schedules
for the Labor Day weekend. Check the schools website to be certain before heading out during this

The Missouri State women's soccer has been selected to finish second this season according to
the Missouri Valley Conference preseason coaches poll released Wednesday. The
Bears received one first-place vote and was just four points shy of preseason pick Illinois
State.
"The Valley is anything but predictable," stated head coach Rob Brewer.
The Bear's gave up a pair of goals in the 79th and 86th minute and lost at St Louis this

The Missouri State women's soccer wrapped up the exhibition slate with a 2-0 loss at Saint Louis
on Saturday night. The Billikens got a pair of late goals to spoil a solid second outing by the
Bears.
Drury women's soccer coach Alf Bilbao has announced the signing of Ciara
O'Brien to a national letter-of-intent to compete for the Panthers beginning with the
2012-13 season.
O'Brien is a defender from St. Angela's Ursuline in Waterford City, Ireland. She has represented
Ireland in the U14, U15, U17 and currently at the U19 levels, and competed in the U17 European
Championship final against Spain, as well as in the U17 World Cup.

Missouri Southern State University, a NCAA Division II member institution and a member of the
Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), is seeking applicants for the position
of Assistant Women's Soccer Coach. The responsibilities of the assistant coach is
to support the head coach in all phases of a highly competitive Division II women's soccer program
including but not limited to, practice, game preparation, conducting and planning training and
conditioning schedules, team travel, field maintenance, teaching soccer fundamentals and strategies
to student-athletes, and academic monitoring and mentoring.
Arkansas' soccer team closes its spring exhibition season with a pair of games on the road this
weekend.
The Razorbacks, under the direction of first-year head coach Colby Hale, play Southeast
Missouri State on Friday and Saint Louis on Saturday.

From Missouri Southern Lions Missouri Southern's head soccer coach Alese Woolard announced the
signing of six freshmen today that will join the team next season.
"Adding this group of talented players to the roster makes us very eager to start the 2012
season. I believe their positive attitudes and work ethics will mesh well with those of our
returners, and I expect to remain very competitive in the MIAA.
Before the details, a note this is the broadest group I've seen enter the program in my 9 years
of watching and covering the program. With players from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Nevada,
Coach Brewer appears to have spread his web further than ever. I hope its the final step in getting
them to the MVC Championship, and NCAA Tourney, following the teams stumble in the MVC Tourney the
past two years.
Congratulations to Lou Opfer (Glendale) for being named the MVP of the recently concluded Club
Soccer Championships in Phoenix. She was joined on the All-Tournament squad by five of her

Drew Fitzgerald, Missouri State Bears
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State women's soccer head coach Rob Brewer announced today the
addition of Drew Fitzgerald to his coaching staff for 2011. Fitzgerald was a volunteer assistant
coach with the team last fall and takes the place of former assistant Josh Ganson.
Ger Coppinger
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State men's soccer head coach Jon Leamy announced today the hiring of
Ger Coppinger as the team's new assistant coach. Coppinger takes over for David Stockton who
accepted a similar position at Cal State Monterey Bay this spring.
"Ger is a great addition to the Missouri State soccer program," stated Leamy.
Drury women's soccer coach Alf Bilbao has announced the completion of a five-member recruiting
class for the 2011-12 season including three Springfield prep standouts for the Panthers.

UPDATE SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Due to weather concerns, the Missouri State women's soccer spring
exhibition match against Missouri Southern scheduled for tonight has been postponed. The game will
be made up next Tuesday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. The game has also been moved to the Cooper Park,
field 1 on Pythian Ave.

The Missouri Southern Lions, who play D2 soccer in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (MIAA) Conference, visit the Drury Panthers, a D2 program in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference (GLVC). The exhibition game will be played at Harrison Stadium at 7:00 pm.

Missouri State travels to Tulsa on Friday to take on the Golden Hurricane
Southwest Baptist hosts the Drury Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 2:00 pm.

The Lady Bears opened their Spring season this afternoon with 90 minutes of soccer on the fast
and windy Plaster Stadium pitch. Facing off against D2 Missouri S&T, the Spring season allows the
teams to work on some projects and take out their energy against another team rather than their
teammates.

Ludwig, the Lady Bulldogs' other captain, wasn't sure at first whether she would play soccer in
college at all. What sold her on joining the Missouri S&T roster were her future teammates, she
said.
Virginia Intermont College Women's Soccer is holding open tryouts for high school seniors (2012)

Bolivar, Mo. SBU Head Women's Soccer Coach has announced the signing of nine players to National
Letters of Intent. "We are very excited about the addition of these young ladies and what they
bring to our program. We felt we were close to being one of the top teams in our conference, but we
were just missing in a few areas.
State players collected several individual awards Tuesday as the first college women's soccer
all-conference teams of the season were announced.
UW-Milwaukee dominated the Horizon League honors: Senior forward Sarah Hagen (Appleton
North) was named the league's Player of the Year for a record third consecutive season and was the
Offensive Player of the Year, junior goalkeeper Jamie Forbes was the co-Defensive Player of
the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year, freshman defender Amy Kauffung (Hartland Arrowhead) was
the Newcomer of the Year and Michael Moynihan was the Coach of the Year.

The Edgewood College women's soccer team got a favorable bounce Sunday.
Now the Eagles have a seemingly favorable matchup in the semifinals of the Northern Athletics
Conference tournament.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Pampuch (Oconomowoc) scored the lone goal after a deflected
shot in the 14th minute as third-seeded Edgewood topped fifth-seeded Dominican (Ill.
In a match that featured some mind-boggling statistics, the Edgewood College women's soccer team
throttled Rockford 21-0 in a Northern Athletics Conference game Saturday at Breese Stevens
Field.
Junior forward Elaine Gerry (Sauk Prairie) scored six goals as the Eagles (12-4-1
overall, 8-2-1 NAC) had 10 players score and 15 players record points in the highest-scoring game
in program history.
It took a while, but the Edgewood College women's soccer team finally figured out a way past
Callie Hasselbring.
Sophomore midfielder Brianna Franken (De Pere) broke a scoreless tie with a penalty kick
in the 84th minute and freshman Megan Falk (Oakfield) added an insurance goal less than a
minute later as the Eagles posted a 2-0 victory over Hasselbring and Concordia (Ill.
This is a sign of the times. Men going into the women's ranks for coaching opportunities.
The precedent has already been set several times over. Former NBA all-stars have taken head
coaching responsibilities for WNBA teams, Ex-Laker great-Michael Cooper and Ex-Piston greats Bill
Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn, just to name a few.
After giving up four goals in its first four matches of the season, the Edgewood College women's
soccer team yielded three in the opening 10 minutes Sunday and lost to St. Norbert 3-1 in a
non-conference game in De Pere.
Freshman Katie Vanden Avond (De Pere), who scored seven of the Green Knights'
nine goals in their first two games, had two assists in St.
Two of the country's top college women's soccer players are Wisconsin natives who play in
Milwaukee.
UW-Milwaukee forward Sarah Hagen (Appleton North) and Marquette defender
Kerry McBride (Elm Grove/Milwaukee DSHA) received more preseason accolades this
week, as both were named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy watch list and the Soccer
America Preseason All-American team.
