Pepsi and Coca-Cola are still at each other's throats after all these years. Who knew? Word is
coming in from Brazil this morning that Coke have pulled the plug on Ronaldinho's $750,000-a-year
sponsorship deal after he gave a press conference for his latest club, Atletico Mineiro, from
behind a couple of cans of Pepsi -Â Pepsi being an official sponsor of Mineiro and all.
Three weeks into the Major League Soccer season and most teams have now had their home openers.Â
Yet the need to sell tickets is just shifting into high gear. Every so often, we like to take a
look around the league to see what teams are doing to promote upcoming matches and draw fans to the
park.

On-loan Bury striker Giles Coke and Captain Steven Schumacher are both booked after this very
embarrassing row over who was to take the penalty.
Needless to say the captain won and stook it away as Bury beat Yeovil 3-2.
Coke-d up spot-kick row Bury captain Steven Schumacher and midfielder Giles Coke were both booked
after a row over who should take a penalty during their 3-2 win over Yeovil. Having won the
spot-kick, Coke grabbed the ball with the intention of taking the penalty. Skipper and usual
penalty taker Schumacher attempted to pull rank, [.
Both Cruzeiro and Atletico-MG had a player sent off in the 58th minute of their Brasileiro match
on Sunday. Half an hour later, with the score at 1-1, Atletico-MG were reduced to nine men with the
match's third sending off. And a minute after that, Ronaldinho made a run from the midway line and
after beating the same defender twice (once at midfield and again in the box), he put the ball just
inside the far post to give Atletico a 2-1 lead.
Is there any thing more nostalgic at the moment for us Chelsea fans than seeing Didier Drogba
thump home a Frank Lampard corner delivery? Well, maybe Frank volleying home coolly at the back
post to round off another frolic against Bolton Wanderers. Talk about a total recall.
Get your ass to Mars
For much of the past two months, my face has resembled the one unleashed by Arnold in the
cinematic still above.
Beyond anything which Mario may or may not be doing...what an odd sequence to catch during a
game, isn't it? Fans get caught doing things quite often, but not players seated in cushy
boxes.
That said....Mario makes a coke can disappear. I think. Which is pretty nice. Though I imagine
the higher ups would prefer he be watching the game.
With yet another international break out of the way it was time for Liverpool manager Kenny
Dalglish to speak to the media about a proper game of football, this Saturday's visit to Stoke in
the Premier League. Since Kenny last spoke at a pre-game press conference he'd signed some more
players and so it was understandable that some of the questions would be about the new faces.
English Premier League giants Chelsea FC confirmed they will send the full squad to Thailand for
a friendly match against Thai Premier League All Stars team on July 24.
The Coke Super Cup match will be played at Rajamangala National Stadium.
Apart from the Bangkok stop, the Blues will also visit Malaysia and Hong Kong as part of their
Asian tour in the summer.
I don't want to say my expectations were high. They certainly weren't. But there was a belief
nestled inside my beautiful skull that there would be something to grab hold of today at Stamford
Bridge. Some concrete evidence that would suggest we were on the mend and on the up.
Is there no end to his talents? While his team-mates were freezing their Ball-otellis off during a
3-0 win against Fulham, Manchester City star Mario Balotelli was performing as a magician in an
executive box at the Emirates. The enigmatic Italian entertained his fellow diners by making a can
of Coke disappear.
While serving his four-match ban for stepping on Scott Parker, there really isn't too much Mario
Balotelli can do during Man City matches besides watch from an executive suite...and perform magic
tricks for his friends.
As City eased to a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, Balotelli made a Coke can disappear under
his magical cloth.
What are the odds Sergio Aguero hits 20 Premier League goals this season? Derek
McGovern's Bets of the Day
Sergio Aguero is the son of a taxi-driver so he was bound to keep Manchester City waiting before
Âfinalising his move to the Etihad Stadium. The striker moves to Manchester after playing in
Madrid, as did Michael Owen, with whom he shares many similarities.
At the moment, Adrian Mutu stands as the very, very poor posterchild for cocaine in football.
Perhaps for consideration is also Francesco Flachi, who might be floating around an unofficial
pitch somewhere, serving something like eight life suspensions for his none-too-small coke problem.
(He's "only" suspended until 2022, actually.
(All apologies to Northern Ireland and the Faroes...mostly the poor Faroes.)
Aside from infuriating injuries and some pretty decent highlight goals, anyway.
Shockingly, the happenings actually came from North America. For serious. Where Jurgen Klinsmann
somewhat stole the show with his dancing and goal celebrations.
Juan Pablo Angel is one of those guys who's good at his trade, but not one you'd instantly
expect to produce a footballing reincarnation of Jesus like you would, say, Kun Aguero and his wise
yet worrying evolutionary use of the Maradona DNA. (Epic dribbler with the ball, epic dribbler from
the mouth after a coke binge and in Manchester, of all places.
Isn't genetics great? If Diego Maradona is your grandad and Sergio Aguero is you dad, the odds of
you being a decent footballer are stacked pretty heavily in your favour. Then again there is also

This is proper shit, right? And I'm almost ashamed to say this is one of my spots... I'll resign
immediately. Now we really need a Shit Lookalike for Andy Gray.

Well we all knew that this was coming and here it is. Coca-Cola has scrapped plans to feature
Wayne Rooney's face on the side of millions of cans after its bosses in America branded him
‘disgusting' for allegedly sleeping with prostitutes while his wife was pregnant.
This hooker could end up literally costing Wayne Rooney millions of dollars.
For one reason or another, Mido still gets paid to occasionally play professional football.
Middlesbrough, which is still down in the Coke, has decided they no longer require his "services",
so he's been free to look for another club for some time.
One club interested was Kayserispor, who lodged their interest two months ago.
