Said Donovan:

"Well, from a statistical standpoint it wasn't my best year, but what is important to me, and I think the reason we're being recognized, is that our team was very good this year.

Soccer Tickets Online 11 November @ 08:58 PM EST

Los Angeles Galaxy's Bruce Arena was named the 2008 Major League Soccer coach of the year Wednesday, after guiding the club to its first playoff berth since 2005.

That line does not do justice to the job that Arena did for the Galaxy this year. Last season the Galaxy finished bottom of the Western Conference after conceding a league-high 62 goals.

Chivas USA was a surprise early on in 2009, but they faded quickly in the summer months. (Getty Images)

WVH 2009 Season Awards

WVHooligan 26 October @ 01:50 PM EST

The regular season is done, over, finished or whatever other adjective you want to use. For the second straight season WVH got to participate in the league's media vote for the season awards. Voting is now over and I felt it was time to share my votes with you all.

I'll have to admit some awards were tougher to vote on than others but I tried to span the entire season's body of work as much as I could for these awards.

Coach of the Year Talk

WVHooligan 21 October @ 10:37 AM EST

For most folks out there the Coach of the Year debate is a three person race. Depending on the how the final week goes we could include one or two others into the discussion.

Some coaches have lead their clubs from loads of draws early to the top of their conferences, one has lead an expansion club to the playoffs for the second time in league history, while others have just done what they always do.

Soccer By Ives 20 October @ 12:09 PM EST

It might be one of the easier categories to vote for, but the 2009 MLS coach of the year race has more than just one worthy candidate.

Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena is the clear front-runner for the award, as he should be, but some other coaches have also enjoyed quality seasons.

WVH Awards Watch Lists

With today being the league's All-Star game it just felt right to go into some award talk. Most of the awards feel like they are going to be decided very late in the year this season.
