The second round of matches for the Torneo Clausura finished on Thursday night with Independiente
claiming a 3-1 win at home to Atlético Tucumán. Earlier in the day, San Lorenzo lost to Godoy
Cruz, who got the only goal of the game in Boedo, and River Plate combined goalscoring verve with
familiar late defensive lapses [.
Both Boca Juniors and Newell's Old Boys hit the same form on Saturday night that they enjoyed (or
endured) during the Torneo Apertura, on a high-scoring day in the Argentine top flight. Boca
managed two consolations but ended up slumping to a 4-2 defeat in Rosario thanks to defending as
bad as anything they managed [.
Former selección captain Roberto Ayala returned to Argentine league action after a decade and a

over a Lanús who offered little or nothing in the way of inventive football, to put an end to an

Independiente won a thriller in the Doble Visera on Sunday, after thinking they'd screwed it up.
They threw away a 2-0 lead to allow Estudiantes a glimpse of a share of the points, but towards the

Friday night saw the start of the fifth round of matches in the 2010 Torneo Clausura. Colón
visited Chacarita Juniors, winning 2-1 to move level on points at the top of the table with Vélez,

Saturday's three matches were all played out in binary, with only San Lorenzo bucking an already
dull trend by failing to score altogether. That failure gave Racing, in Miguel Angel Russo's first
match in charge, a 1-0 win in El Cilindro which didn't entirely satisfy the new boss; 'We still

Saturday's biggest match was the first ever clásico de Avellaneda to be played at the new Doble
Visera, and it was a good result for the home side, with Independiente winning by just one goal and

completing the weekend's action for us. San Lorenzo finally scored at the death against Tigre,
River Plate got a late equaliser after heavy pressure on the Gimnasia defence, Godoy Cruz claimed

The late night caused by typing up Tuesday's Argentines Abroad post got the better of me, and I
totally forgot to put up details of the seventh round of the Torneo Clausura, which is being played
in midweek. Tuesday's matches were generally high-scoring, with Racing's agonising 1-1 draw against

Tuesday night's second match concerning an Argentine side in the Copa Libertadores ended too late

Saturday was a day of plenty of draws in the Primera División, but there was one loser, and as
ever it was Racing. La Academia lost out to Lanús by a single goal, scored by Sebastián Blanco

Following the farcical attempt to play the superclásico in front of the world's television
cameras, it seems that all would've been fine had it been moved to Avellaneda; scarcely four miles
away from La Bombonera, the Estadio Libertadores de América saw Independiente claim a 2-0 win over
Rosario Central which ensures they remain ensconced at [.
In what remained from Sunday of the Torneo Clausura match between Boca Juniors and River Plate, it
was Boca's Chilean midfielder / defender Gary Medel who was the key figure. Medel scored twice one
