The second round of matches in the 2008 Torneo Clausura is already upon us. Champions Lanús, fresh
from Thursday night's Copa Libertadores win over Danubio, visit Huracán on Sunday, before the two
'Junior' teams clash at La Bombonera. River, the only one of the 'Big Five' to win their opening
match, visit San Lorenzo's surprise [.
It's an important weekend, this one, for a variety of reasons. Rock-bottom (of Clausura and
Promedio) Olimpo host fellow strugglers Colón in what might be a crucial game in the
relegation battle. Racing take on Tigre, whose manager Diego Cagna has dismissed concerns expressed
by some on the rumour mill that the officials have been [.
No sooner are we done with the week's continental action, than it's time to look ahead to the
weekend in the league. Sunday sees the year's first 'Big Five' clásico, as Ramón Díaz returns
once again to the Monumental, and will be hoping his team can finally score a goal. Early
pace-setters Vélez host Banfield, [.
No fewer than four clásicos this weekend, two between 'Big Five' clubs - Racing host San Lorenzo
and Independiente visit Boca - one sort-of derby, an all-Santa Fé Province clash between Central
and Colón, and a proper derby between two of the clubs from the zona Sur of Gran Buenos Aires,
with Banfield visiting champions [.
This weekend's fixtures see joint-leaders River and Boca host Arsenal and travel to Olimpo,
respectively. There's a relegation clash between Racing and San Martín which is must-win for both
sides, whilst the two sides crowned champions in 2007, San Lorenzo and Lanús, meet in the Nuevo
Gasometro.
The halfway point of the 2008 Torneo Clausura is almost upon us, with River and Boca the only
remaining unbeaten sides. The leaders host Tigre whilst Boca visit Jujuy - sandwiched between them
in second place, Estudiantes have the chance to take the summit of the table when they host
Lanús in the weekend's first [.
Two of last week's victors clash in the weekend's first match, and it's not often you get to write
that sentence when one of the teams involved is Central. Leaders Vélez travel to Jujuy and
Independiente look to bounce back from last week's loss to the Rosario side as they take on
Argentinos, and River [.
The award of the called-off Racing vs. Estudiantes match a few weeks ago to the visitors with a 2-0
scoreline puts Estudiantes top of the table (which will be updated after this weekend) going into
the eleventh round, and means River will be hoping Roberto Sensini's men drop points away to Tigre,
whils they themselves [.
We've got a weekend full of derbies ahead. Colón and Newell's aren't in the same city but they
are both in Santa Fé Province, so theirs is a sort of half-rivalry to get us warmed up for the
main events. Saturday and Sunday have two clásicos each, the La Plata derby starting things
off before [...
The penultimate round of the 2008 Torneo Clausura has arrived. The international break for World
Cup qualifiers next weekend means that the final round won't be played for two weeks, but whilst
relegation issues in the Promedio will go right to the wire, the title could be decided this
weekend. If River beat Olimpo in [.
Another clásico this week, Argentina's oldest in fact, sees River host Racing on Sunday afternoon.
With Racing's form of late this seems like the perfect time for Diego Simeone's men to start
allying some good football to their already not-actually-that-bad results, but don't hold your
breath. Lanús, a little oddly, have less than 48 hours [.
This weekend sees a Monday evening match, a semi-clásico between Arsenal and San Lorenzo, and a
clash of first vs. second as Vélez host River. A bank holiday service announcement whilst you're
reading: I'm going to spend Good Friday and most of Saturday in London with a friend, so there
won't be any updates to [.
Vélez, needing a win to staz on the leaders' tails, will be trying their hardest to dump
Racing even deeper into the relegation mix-up on Friday evening. Champions Lanús host leaders
River on Sunday, and Saturday sees the clásico rosarino, the reverse of one of Central's only
two wins during the Apertura.
A big weekend this. Promedio strugglers Colón host title-chasing River on Sunday, and lowly
Central are at home to Tigre in the weekend's first match, but the focus will be on Liniers on
Saturday afternoon, because it's in Vélez's stadium (more as to the reasoning behind that and
the problems it's causing on Friday during [.
