River, Huracán and San Lorenzo all welcomed new signings on Wednesday, with Boca suffering a minor
injury setback to their pre-season training schedule. Meanwhile, Independiente have had another
hard day in training following Germán Denis's dog attack on Monday, and Germán Herrera, the
Argentine striker who's just signed for recently relegated Corinthians in Brazil, receiving a
somewhat backhanded [.
The 2008 Torneo Clausura kicks off at long last following the summer break on Friday evening, with
Lanús aiming to defend the title they won so improbably back in December, whilst the likes of Boca
will be wanting to get back to winning ways. Other big sides need improved performances, for a
variety of reasons, [.
Prior to tonight's Torneo de Verano match between Boca and San Lorenzo, there have been a few other
games from some of the other sides in Primera A. Following a fight in training on Friday between
Germán Denis and an Independiente youth-team player, there were more fisticuffs during Banfield
vs. Central.
River Plate were the only one of the 'Big Five' to win on the opening weekend of the Clausura,
with Racing and Boca both drawing and San Lorenzo and Independiente both crashing to defeats.
Carlos Ischia's introduction to competitive action was spoiled by a club he used to manage, as

No fewer than four clásicos this weekend, two between 'Big Five' clubs - Racing host San Lorenzo

and Colón, and a proper derby between two of the clubs from the zona Sur of Gran Buenos Aires,
with Banfield visiting champions [.

second half which referee Pablo Lunati seemed to be losing control of at one point. Guillermo
Rodríguez grabbed a [.
With two matches remaining of the 2008 Torneo Clausura, River Plate edged narrowly ahead of
Estudiantes in the table, and with the opening of a two-point gap at the top of the table they can
keep alive their dream of claiming a first trophy in four years, in Diego Simeone's first campaign
in charge.
Boca Juniors and Estudiantes were both held to draws on Saturday, allowing River Plate to stretch
their lead at the top if they could beat champions Lanús away on Sunday - which they managed
courtesy of a brilliant strike from teenage forward Diego Buonanotte, and a penalty save from Juan
Pablo Carrizo.
So the saying goes, and so it's proven this weekend. Germán Denis has moved clubs and
continents, joining Ezequiel Lavezzi at Napoli, and is scoring as freely as ever in pre-season for
his new side. He got a hat-trick in his first appearance (as did Lavezzi last year, funnily enough)
and scored again on Sunday [.
