============================
A couple new things to flag this week: first, some major rearranging blew through the Top, um, 9
this week, the result of some sober reconsideration of a couple teams; second, now that we're
clearly in crunch-time I'm going to list the next "Week's" game(s) for each team after I rank
‘em. And, as always, [...]
KEEP THIS IN MIND
There really is alot to take into account going into Gilette this weekend.
First off, the New England team we saw exiting Giants Stadium with a draw is not the team we
will see in Gilette. Thanks, once again, to the horrible playoff rules of this league, the first
leg of the home and home is render meaningless, since all the visiting squad has to do is pack the
box, play defensive football, and hope for the best.
The New York Times is reporting that the Red Bulls are looking to buy out Claudio Reynas million
dollar contract, thus freeing up space for a second DP signing.
With rumors flying that all teams shall receive an extra DP, The RBNY Organization is staring at
a situation where three world class players may be manning their starting 11 (4 if you count Jozy,
who will most certainly NOT be a DP).
HERE WE GO AGAIN
FSC: 7:30pm. YOU GOTTA GET IN THE GAME!
For the third time in five years, we face off, in the postseason, against another strong New
England team.
For the fourth time this year, these two teams will collide. And the Revodouchers have the
season advantage, with 2 wins and 1 tie.
Red Bull New York Record (W-L-T): 12-11-7; 47 GF, 45 GA Source Material: Schedule/match reports;
roster Overview All in all, and perhaps a little sadly, this was a pretty typical year for Major
League Soccer's (MLS) New York franchise: uneven, unsettled, and, as always, unrewarded. But a
couple oddities put a fresh twist or two on the familiar: a [.
Ok. Time for a cold shower. The season didnt end at 5-4.
This WILL be difficult for me, but oh well. Its my virtual job.
Todays Topic : In light of "The Game of the Year," and with nearly three quarters of the season
already in our rear view, we have had more than enough time to analyze our Designated Player
acquisitions.
YUP. ITS A TIE FOLKS.
So much for pouring on the pressure.
That lasted one half. The first one.
And clearly, the second belonged to New England (at least, quality goal scoring opportunity
wise).
Now, with a tie heading into Gilette, our backs are truly against the wall.
What is it about us playing against the Revodouchers?
No, I didn't watch the full 90+ minutes in the true, linear sense, so here's to hoping I saw enough
for what appears below to hold up. I'll be filling in match reports from other outlets as I read
them in the space below (and any volunteers should feel free to drop their views in [...]
I've really got to work on tightening up my titles, making them more thematic. Till then,
though, expect sprawling lists... - Naturally, people are following up today on last night's draw
between FC Dallas and Chivas USA, though no one took quite so much offense to Brian Hall as I
did...probably on the logic than bad [...]
There are rumors flying that Clint Mathis has been traded to the LA Galaxy for a 3rd round draft
pick. Maybe they are more than rumors and the official announcement just hasn't been made yet.
Either way it sounds like the Galaxy are getting a good deal.
I'll admit that Mathis was always one of my favorite players. I wish he had gotten more time
with the US national team, but oh well.
As noted below (no need for pingbacks; just scroll down for the good stuff), I hadn't intended to
post the notes I scrawled through one closed eye while watching New York edge the Chicago Fire 1-0.
But since it contained a couple Big Picture, Major League Soccer (MLS)-wide talking point that
bubbled up as [...]
. . . . WHO WOULDA GUESSED?!?! . . . .
First off, People Magazine (in espanol) has A RED BULL as one of the 10 SEXIEST MEN in AMERICAN
in its newest magazine. CHECK IT OUT.
Simultaneously, they are breaking down the possible end of year award winners on MLSNET (MVP,
rookie of the year, etc.).
And of course, the only RBNY representative in BOTH catagories and currently trailing Luciano
Emilio for league MVP?
This will be short and sweet.
Yesterdays loss left a bitter taste in my mouth (which then turned to vomit when I watched the
rest of the Yankees game).
We have a World Class Coach, World Class players, Youngsters who play hard and well, and are a
piece or two away from having a truly dominant club. At least, thats what we thought.
First of all, I am injured. Worst injury for a blogger too - broken tip of my middle finger (I
will put up pics later). So expect QUICK and SMALL updates such as the following (at least till i
am better or figure out this splint):
Did you know we had injuries? Yea surprise surprise!
Did you know that DC was already gearing up for their DP next year?
Since this was already 3 days ago, here are just some late thoughts from your fractured fingered
blogging wonder kind :

A couple things before getting under way. First, as I've said in the past, I understand why
Brucio from du Nord runs his site the way he does (having never corresponded with him, I actually
don't, but bear with me); it's hard to know what to run and what to spike. The point of all [...]
So, I am separating this into two parts.
Part I will feature FIFA 08, and the actual playing of the video game
v. Jozy, review on its features, some trash talkin in between, and other stuff . . .
Part II, is the actual interview, where we discuss everything from gaming to
the U-20 WC, to the current Red Bulls situation and more
So without further ado .
With the playoffs secured, a known opponent set, and nothing to gain, I ask you my loyal readers
. . .
What should RBNY do with the next game heading into the playoffs?
We have seen similiar situations in the past - and every coach handles it differently.
Would you put in your best starters?
Or would the scrubs come out to play?
By now you have heard me, and countless other people give their half-educated, half-drunk opinions
of the initial class of designated players. Hell, you've probably done it yourself; "Angel is a
lock for MVP", "Reyna has been a bigger disappointment than a three of the new Star Wars movies
combined", "Blanco has turned out to be a better signing than Beckham", and "Denilson is done like
Ja Rule's career" are just a few of the things I have heard in this blog's comments and emails.
Well, that was just dire no hustle, no spark, no nothing. As the game went on, the atmosphere in
the ground went from bummed, to uncomfortable, to pissed off you could tell the complacency on the
pitch was sending fans right back into the negativity of last year; I hope to God next weekend
feels different for everyone, because that's a path we really don't want to go down again.
There I was reading
ESPN's latest power rankings (which I later intend to exploit for my own
purposes) when I came across the entry on Red Bull New York:
"What's wrong in Gotham? The Red Bulls' midfield is flat out
of gas and Claudio Reyna looks like a shell of his former self."
Having watched Red Bull's loss to New England this weekend, I have to agree; add to that Reyna's
early substitution against the Houston Dynamo last week and you're looking at an ugly answer to all
those questions about Reyna's age and fitness when he came to MLS: Yep, he's too old and fragile.
