The second day of matches kicks off today with some very interesting ties on slate. After the opening round of fixtures we didn't really learn too much, and confirmed what we already know after some of the big boys thrashing a few minnows.

After some interesting results in the first opening group matches on Tuesday, Wednesday promises to bring us more of the same. Here's what's happening on Day two of match day one:

It takes several Roma players to contain the fury of Mexes, but you can see why the French defender was so angry. Firstly, the challenge was outside the box (just), second the assistant referee kept his flag down, third it looked like Mexes got the ball cleanly.

After a shaky start for all of Serie A's big teams, results are starting to take a more expected course after the midweek fourth round of matches. Roma, however, are the exception. The Romans had been in dire straits prior to the clash with Rafael Benitez's men.

8 matches took place on Tuesday afternoon in the second round of the Champions League group stage. Real Madrid, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Arsenal and AC Milan were some of the big clubs in action as the typically exciting UEFA Champions League took place.

In Italy AS Roma defeated Romanians CFR Cluj 2-1 thanks to goals from Phillipe Mexes and Marco Borrielo.
