If you're a professional soccer player, you don't want allegations of boozing, prostituting and
sneaking back into hotels associated with you.
Fortunately for Peruvian forward Claudio Pizzaro, he was cleared of such accusations stemming for a
couple years ago.
I guess there wasn't enough evidence in the case.
Soccerlens was at the Chelsea-Inter World Football Challenge game in California tonight - what
follows is a live blog from that game.
Chelsea take on and humble their previous manager Jose Mourniho at the hirstoric Rose Bowl
stadium on a sunny California night.
A very festive atmosphere out here at the Rose Bowl as mostly Chelsea fans continue to pour in
to fill the stadium close to capacity.
Werder Bremen spent a long time waiting for the official confirmation for the transfer of
Claudio Pizzaro from Chelsea and now they can gladly announce that they have finally managed to
bring the striker that left a deep trace in the club. Peruvian signed a contract for three years
with the club in Bremen.
Its been reported that AC Milan has turned down a bid from Chelsea of £12.5m for Andrea Pirlo plus
Claudio Pizzaro. AC Milan have apparently said that Pirlo is worth £35m. Listen, I know Ancelotti
knows him well and he played for him for a number of years but for me, we need to put the cheque
book away and look at bolstering our squad somewhere else rather than our midfield.
Turkish media has recently reported that:
1- Real Madrid's Javier Saviola will sign with Galatasaray.
2- Ottmar Hitzfeld will be Galatasaray's manager next season.
3- Either PSG's manager Paul LeGuen or FC Cologne's Christoph Daum will return to Fenerbahce.
4- Sochaux Turkish forward Mevlut Erdinc will transfer to Aston Villa, Fulham or Wigan Athletic.
There are numerous reports in the press this morning that Roman Abramovich is about to loosen the
purse strings once more and spend big this week to bolster the Chelsea squad. There has been
constant reports recently about Andrea Pirlo and this one looks like a real possibility now and
people expect the deal to be done this week.
Chelsea have announced that Claudio Pizzaro has joined Werder Bremen on a permanent deal and we
wish him well for the future. Claudio failed to shine really at Chelsea and you have to say that
this deal is good for all parties. Good luck to you!
I think the jury is still out on Bayer Leverkusen as title contenders. So far this season
Jupp Heynckes team have beaten Hoffenheim, Freiburg, Bochum, Wolfsburg, Koln and Nurnberg.
Of those six results, only two were against teams from the top half of the table. More pertinently,
when they have played fellow contenders Bayer have come up short.
Some sad, some odd and some encouraging records.
100. After already missing 100+ sitters much earlier in his career, Kevin
Kuranyi now scored his 100th Bundesliga goal on Sunday. He scored it against Hertha, mind you, but
congratulations anyway! He is the 47th player in the history of the Bundesliga to score 100 or more
goals.
Sigh. I feel like we've been here before...It wasn't 12 months ago when we were talking about
zonal marking, and seeing goals flying past a rooted Cech and centerbacks yelling at each other and
pointing fingers. The marking that we've seen the past few weeks is unacceptable for a team of
Chelsea's caliber.
