Milan and Juventus are currently the top two teams in the Italian league with the Rossoneri
ahead by two points but the Serie A champions have played two more matches than their rivals
Juventus. Juve's positive run, the club is undefeated this season in official play, is due to a
number of factors such as a solid defensive record and a midfield marshaled by veteran Andrea Pirlo
with the aid of Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal.
There is plenty of high-profile soccer going on around the world this Wednesday, but perhaps no
games carry as much significance as the two African Cup of Nations semifinals. Ivory Coast and
Ghana took care of business in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals with matching 3-0
victories, and all that stands in the way of a star-studded tournament final is one more win for
each team.
It has been an up and down season for Juventus striker Alessandro Matri. There have been times
where it seems that every time he touches the ball it ends up in the back of the net while at other
times there have long absences of his name on the score sheet. When he is hot, he has been praised
uncontrollably, even once being compared as the next David Trezeguet.
African Cup of
Nations (Group C), Gabon vs Tunisia (1pmET, Al-Jazeera Sports / Eurosport
International):Tunisia and tournament co-host Gabon both won their first two group games and hence
will advance to the final eight (while the other two teams in the group, Niger and disappointing
Morocco, will go home).

Alessandro Matri gives the Bianconeri the lead but Udinese answer through Antonio Floro Flores.
However, Matri would not be denied the winner. Would it be hyperbolic to say Claudio Marchisio is
the preeminent midfielder in the Serie nowadays? Juventus sit on top of the Serie in a dogfight
with Milan.
Juventus were crowned Serie A Winter Champions after one of their most controlled performances of
the season on Saturday night. Atalanta have proven to be tough opposition for any team, especially
at home where their only defeat prior was to champions Milan. But, the Bianconeri overcame early
frustration to eventually overcome the Nerazzurri with relative ease.
Midfield Hernanes The Brazilian playmaker was undoubtedly Lazio's best signing of last season. He
has continued his excellent form into the new season, operating in the heart of Lazio's midfield
and supplying new-boy Miroslav Klose with the service that has helped him notch up 9 goals so far.
If Lazio are to pursue success in the Europa League along with their ambitions to claim a
Champions.

Juventus have scored 29 goals in 18 league matches which is not very impressive but by no means
is it a disastrous figure considering only two clubs in Serie A have scored more: Milan and
Napoli.
The figures do not lie and a closer look reveals the Bianconeri have scored 10 goals in 3
matches meaning the club managed only 19 goals in the other 15 games.

Who knew there's a full slate of games in the Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1, Spain (Copa del
Rey)? Though to tell the truth, not a whole lot of must-see TV today. Actually the one match today
that we will try to watch just kicked off, so this will have to be a very quick post:
Udinese-Juventus at Stadio Communale Friuli (12pmET, Fox Soccer Channel, RAI
Internazionale, ESPN3 USA, FOX Deportes): 3rd vs 2nd Udinese with 31 points, two behind
Juve, who are in turn a point behind table-toppers Milan.
Another week and another win, as Juventus roll through Novara to keep their unbeaten streak intact.
It was always going to be a tall task for Novara as they entered the Juventus stadium and the home
team was unfortunate to not score more. Although the visitors did have a few chances, this match
was all Juve.
Another brilliant weekend in Serie A where two fallen giants must address their continued bad form.
Both Inter Milan and Roma were the talking points this weekend as both teams records domestically
continue to decay. Inter Milan lost at home to Udinese 1-0 where Roma lost 3-0 away at Fiorentina
and had 3 players sent off.
The return of Juventus as a force in Italian football has coincided with the arrival of Andrea
Pirlo on a free transfer and with former club captain Antonio Conte assuming control of coaching
duties. Both Pirlo and Conte have been influential in Juve's rise with the former Milan midfielder
proving indispensable in several matches while coach Antonio has helped revive the squad's damaged
spirit.

Juventus powered themselves to the top of Serie A after a superb 3-0 win over Palermo thanks to
goals by Simone Pepe, Alessandro Matri and Claudio Marchisio. Playing with the conviction of
potential champions, Juve tore into visitors Palermo before recording a fine 3-0 win. The victory

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli is expected to start today's friendly fixture against
Uruguay. The 21 year old striker who been instrumental in City's recent form will earn his 6th cap
for the senior side in a match that could cement his position in the Italian squad.
After his amazing performances against Poland last Friday, Prandelli has decided to stick with
Balotelli.
What a cracking weekend in Italian Serie A where there were massive wins in the big games for AC
Milan away at AS Roma and Juventus winning away at Inter Milan. Siena hit four past Chievo and
Fiorentina managed to get a 1-0 win over Genoa in a must win match. Here are the top 5 goals of the
week 5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
While everyone else with the club was busy with the Derby d'Italia this weekend (and
successfully so), a few poor souls in the tech department were busy with Photoshop and some
age-predicting software in the case of Andrea Pirlo. The result is some Halloween images of their
frightening employees of prominence.

So, that Claudio Marchisio, eh? He's scored against (through gritted teeth). He's scored against
Milan. He plays like Steven Gerrard or Marco Tardelli, and is the centerpiece in the new
ItalJuve.
Goals by Mirko Vucinic and Claudio Marchisio gave Juventus a priceless 2-1 victory over Inter Milan
in the Derby D'Italia as Antonio Conte's men sent out a warning to the rest of Serie A. Could this
be the year, the first year since 2003 when the Old Lady reassumes her position at the summit of

Juventus threw away another two points with Genoa scoring a late equalizer in Turin to force a
2-2 draw on Saturday. The Juve supporters must be disappointed with the club's inability to display
a killer instinct in finishing off weaker opponents. The Bianconeri also wasted a number of
opportunities highlighting the lack of scoring touch despite the presence a plethora of attacking
options such as Fabio Quagliarella (did not play versus Genoa), Alessandro Matri (scorer of both of
Juve's goals versus Genoa), Alessandro Del Piero (a late substitute) and Mirko Vučinić (played
but again failed to score).
Claudio Marchisio The Juventus midfielder has been in great form this season; including netting a
brace in their 2-0 win over AC Milan last weekend. He was often forced out onto the left-side of
midfield in previous years and not deemed capable of orchestrating a midfield. He's proved his
doubters wrong this season and also forced his way into the Italian National Team's midfield.

Before Sunday night Juventus' start to the season hadn't been anything to write home about.
Laboured performances against Siena, Bologna and Catania had eroded some of the optimism born from
the opening day's 4-1 thrashing of Parma. The Vecchia Signora took five points from these games but
their displays were arduous: plenty of heart, but little fluidity or panache.
The Old Lady's hot start continues and this time their victims were defending champs AC Milan.
Claudio Marchisio with his brace was the hero. The new Juventus Stadium is proving to be a lucky
charm as Juve sit on top of the Serie with Udinese. AC are in 15th position and Inter are two
places behind.

Yes, we were lamenting the lack of goals for a good part of the Juventus-Milan

those pair of eyes) stepped in to score twice for Juventus! With a name like
that, the whole of Turin will not be sweating over his complimentary one week

Udinese and Juventus continue to set the pace at the head of Serie A, closely followed by
Napoli, with all three teams earning impressive wins at the weekend.
Udinese remain unbeaten after a 2-0 win against bottom-placed Bologna at the Stadio Friuli, with
Mehdi Benatia and an Antonio Di Natale penalty securing the win.
Two late goals by Claudio Marchisio gave Juventus an impressive 2-0 win over ten-man AC Milan at

champions AC Milan in tonight's highly anticipated Serie A clash.
Italy international Marchisio clinically finished past Christian Abbiati in the

three minutes of regulation time left.
Juventus might be on top of the Serie A table but it is too early to consider them as serious
contenders before they can register a notable win against one of the elite teams such as Milan or
Napoli. The upcoming fixtures will offer the Bianconeri the perfect opportunity to measure their
improvement and how far they have gone since seeing former captain Antonio Conte take over as
coach.
Serie A finally got underway last weekend and the main story to come out of it was a team of the
week Juventus with an opening day 4-1 win over Parma in the beautiful new Juventus stadium. Sunday
afternoon saw match day 3 underway (unofficially day 2) with Juventus traveling to newly promoted
Siena. An attack-minded Juventus was a joy to watch with their attacking 4-4-2 formation (4-2-4).
