And so the Decade in Review has arrived at the final chapter: 2008/2009. Which seems pretty
close but when you think about it is already far away into the archives. I've enjoyed reliving the
past 10 years each week and going back into calcio history. But we have reached the end. Here's to
another great 10 years of our beloved Italian calcio.

Borriello in nazionale.

Juventus suffered another defeat which perhaps came as no surprise despite the fact Roma were
rather not impressive until the penalty-kick which was converted by Francesco Totti. The Bianconeri
did not deserve to lose the match but the players have certainly been struggling despite putting in
a better effort against the Giallorossi.

Most if not all of the Bianconeri fans are wondering how many more games does Coach Ciro Ferrara
have to lose before he is fired by the Juventus board. Without going into details or providing
analysis of some of the matches lost, the abysmal record speaks for itself as Juventus have lost
five out of their last games.

CLAUDIO MARCHISIO

The victory against Inter was not backed by a vintage performance but served as a reprieve for
Ciro Ferrara who is under intense pressure from the tifosi to bring glory back to the Old Lady
following a summer spending campaign which included the signing of Brazilians Diego and Felipe Melo
for considerable sums.

Week 15 of the 2009-10 Serie A season featured two major derbies in Italian football.
On Saturday, it was the seemingly always top of the table meeting of the Derby D'Italia. 1st place
Inter Milan versus 3rd place Juventus. The game featured a couple of firsts. Juve defender Giorgio
Chiellini scored his 1st goal of the season and Inter striker Samuel Eto'o scored his 1st Derby
D'Italia goal.

A great weekend full of upsets and big matches and missed penalties, especially in the
Premiership.
Roma - Lazio *ROMAN DERBY SPECIAL*A derby which could be described as a game of two halves, the first half was rather dull and boring
with both clubs unable to scare each other.

Lots of nice goals scored this weekend in Serie A, and lots of goals scored with 32 altogether.
Antonio Di Natale scored again, so he still tops the top scorer chart with 11
goals, 2 away from Francesco Totti and Diego Milito. He's given
them a chance to catch up however, as he has been suspended for the next 2 games.

Two unlikely heroes emerged out of the two big games this weekend, Juventus-Inter and
Roma-Lazio. In the first game on Saturday, Claudio Marchisio was the game-winner,
using an excellent display of technique to control a ball in tight space and chip Julio Cesar to
score Juventus' second goal.

What an incredible week it's been in world football -
- The hype of the World Cup draw lived up to the anticipation with more talking points than an
O'Reilly Factor marathon. The England v USA debate has just started and I imagine it won't end
until June 13th, 2010. The group of death, who will go through, which teams will underachieve,
which teams will overachieve all these points have been at the fore front of our minds and will
continue to raise interesting debate for the next 7 months.

So in the end, it was Juve's Claudio Marchisio who scored the winner to save
Juventus to save his side against Inter last night. And futbolitas... his quick moves were
che belleza to watch. Well, except it was against Julio Cesar of course
(and if does this next year in South Africa, nothing but daggers will be thrown in his way.

E' stata una guerra. L'abbiamo spuntata noi e ne sono felicissimo. Per il resto: arbitro
inconsistente, poco calcio e troppo nervosismo. Il faro che brilla nella notte è Claudio Marchisio
che con un gol bellissimo ha ricordato a tutti cos'è la classe. Con ieri sera spero anche che
qualcuno si sia reso conto che tipo di persona sia Mario Balotelli.

Claudio Marchisio showed great footwork to control the ball, avoid Inter's Walter Samuel then
lift the ball over Julio Cesar in a stunning display of his skills. The significance of this goal
transcends beyond Juve's 2-1 victory over Inter as the midfielder's goal reopened the title race
with the Nerazzurri now four points ahead of Milan and five points ahead of the Bianconeri.

Inter's complaints about the officiating?

As the Azzurri floundered and failed in South Africa, it was left to the Azzurrini to provide
the Italian nation with something at cheer about or at the very least restore some national pride,
which they managed to do, and even more so if it weren't for the great German machine.
Heading to the European U21 Championships in Sweden, the Italy U21 side were the favourites,
along with England and Spain U21's.

On June 16th, Italy will play their first game of the UEFA U-21 Championship 2009 vs. Serbia.
The Azzurrini find themselves in a group with Belarus, Serbia, and hosts Sweden. Italy have always
been successful at this level however they have not won the U-21 Championship since 2004. Pierluigi
Casiraghi has been unsuccessful with the Azzurrini so far since taking over from Claudio Gentile in
2006 and this is arguably his last chance.
