select 10 players from the 15 current MLS teams to help to begin their process for building their
roster. The Wizards are allowed to protect 11 players and 3 of the team's 4 international players

of the picks are easy to make, some others will be very difficult.
Picking this year's forwards was especially tough, with a half dozen worth candidates for the

The Wizards had 4 goals up for Goal of the Year, and 2 of those goals have made it to the final 10,
one from each Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez. Arnaud's goal is his blast from the first game of the
season against Toronto. Lopez's goal is his shot from midfield that looped in over Donovan
Ricketts.

For those clubs already in the thick of the offseason -- and after last weekend, the tally grew
to 11 -- there are plenty of issues to wrestle with. Some clubs, like D.C. United, New York Red
Bull and Toronto FC, high on the list is finding a head coach for next season.
One club checked head coach off the list, as the Kansas City Wizards named Peter Vermes as their
top man.

So now that the passion/disappointment has simmered a bit after a below mediocre season, I
figured I's sit and look at the team as a whole and write about what I thought should happen for
2010.
Peter Vermes = Technical Director: After 3 seasons in this position I
feel Vermes has done a less than stellar job.

Vote for Claudio or Davy. They both are nominated twice. Claudio's goals include his beautiful free
kick in week 10 against Chivas and week 19's shot from the middle of the field against LA. Davy's
goals include the week 1 blast against Toronto and the week 13 goal against New England. I have
hard time deciding my favorite.

Year end award nominees are coming out, and while no Wizards players are up the big awards, 3
Wizards are nominated for 2 awards.
Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez are both up twice for goal of the year. Arnaud's first blast against
Toronto on the opening week of the season is one of his two nominated goals.

Major League Soccer's playoff hopefuls went into the season finale with a whole host of
possibilities ahead of them. And without wishing to put too fine a point on it, they all crapped
the bed. Here's what happened in a spectacular, surprising and decisive Week 32, the final week of
the MLS regular season for 2009.

A few of the Wizards players had career years this year. Here's a list of the players that are in
at least their second year in the league and the career highs they hit this year.
Josh Wolff reached a career high in goals (11), games started (27), and minutes played in league
play (2,348).

The Wizards have handed out their year end awards, and it's now time for me to hand out my end of
the year awards to Wizards players. I'm going to hand out the same awards I did last year, I'm also
adding a Performance of the Year award to the best single game performance by a player this
season.
Rookie of the Year
Matt Besler
Not really a surprise, it was either going to be Besler or Graham Zusi getting this years award,
and I don't think that Zusi got enough time this year to be considered for the award.

Yeah I'm almost a week behind on this, but was thinking the team may actually announce more winners
than just MVP, Golden Boot and Humanitarian of the Year. Anyways, this year, the award winners
consisted of 2 players, Josh Wolff and Jimmy Conrad.
Wolff won both the MVP award and the Golden Boot.

The Wizards season is over, but the Player of the Month for October needs to be handed out. My year
end awards will also be coming out soon as well. In October the Wizards went 0-2-2, scoring 5 goals
and allowing 8 goals during that time frame. Here are a few candidates for October.
Claudio Lopez - Lopez had a goal and an assist in October, setting up Zoltann Hercegfalvi's goal in
Houston and scored the game tying PK against DC.

Kevin Hartman made his 100th start in all competitions for the Wizards. He's the 19th Wizard to hit
that mark.
The 33 goals scored by the Wizards in league play, ties for the lowest goal output in team history.
The 1999 and the 2001 Wizards both scored 33 league goals.
Claudio Lopez's goal was his 13th in league play for the Wizards, moving him into a tie for 12th
place all time with Matt McKeon, Jose Burciaga, and Sasha Victorine.

The Wizards ended the 2009 season without a playoff berth, but they went out by helping to kill DC
United's season. Along with other results around the league, KC's 2-2 draw with DC last night
eliminated DC from making the playoffs as well. A late penalty kick by Claudio Lopez proving to be
the tying goal.

It's bad enough we have had a horrible season. It's bad enough that we played basically the same
lineup that has given us little to cheer about throughout the season (with Zusi and Zoltan being
the exceptions). Saturday we decided to give the Sounders some help by giving away 3 goals on big
mistakes.
