ALBERTO AQUILANI - The truth about his transfer fee. How much will he REALLY cost?

Liverpool Kop 15 November @ 09:01 AM EST
There seems to be a lot of confusion over how much Liverpool paid/will eventually pay Roma for the services of Alberto Aquilani. Figures such as £20m, £17m and £5m (!) have been bandied about, but the truth is the total outlay could (potentially) turn out to be much more.
On the 8th August 2009, Roma released official details of Aquilani's transfer fee. Click to continue reading...

A bit before the Chelsea vs Man Utd match

Soccerblog 07 November @ 08:56 AM EST

Drogbalicious.

He takes over everybody
Sinewy hard, on a goal scoring spree

He gallops on the field, on a tear

He is on his way to critical mass
A nuclear weapon laid bare

And underneath his shorts
He turns on twin burners in his arse

He makes Rio look flabby

Silvestre now that was one bemused chappie,

Chelsea are losing, Ancelotti wears a frown

Jose looks a bit Sourinho

Drogba scores two, turns it upside down

We have seen it before, in the FA, CL, and the Prem

I hate to have to say it but Drogba is a s**tstain

(all players except those from Chelsea)
Drogba makes us look like muppets

(one player)
I'd like to say worse:
He gives me gas

(all fans except those from Chelsea weep)

(all fans except those from Chelsea)
He makes us sick to the stomach that Drogba
He gives us gas and it's not the beer we chug
He makes us look like muppets that Drogba

(Sung to "How do you solve a problem like Maria" from the Sound of Music)

Poll: 2 CL titles in 5 years?

The Offside - Chelsea 05 November @ 10:55 PM EST

The bald one, Peter Kenyon, set a goal of winning two Champions League crowns within a decade when he took over as Chelsea chief executive in 2004. Our new chief, Ron Gourlay is upping the stakes.

"Over the next five years we've still got to shoot for the stars," Gourlay said. "I'd still like to think we can win the Champions League twice in the next five years.

From Lucas to Rafa Benitez: Off With His Head!!

Crimson Corpus of Liverpool Football Club 04 November @ 10:37 AM EST

When we beat the Mancs last week, everyone including his pet rock was jumping with joy I am certain. Everyone except those in the clueless bandwagon. Then, afterwe lost to Fulham, the dam burst further!

How do some fans miss the obvious I do not know. We have been overachieving with Rafa at the helm and yet these people scream murder and want Rafa to be sacked.

Fernando Torres faces possible surgery

Soccerblog 03 November @ 03:06 AM EST

The bad news just keeps getting worse for Liverpool with Torres to join Steven Gerrard as a possible candidate for surgery. He has a hernia which could be cured with a long layoff of a month but if symptoms persist then surgery will be the other alternative.

Rafa has no choice but to play Torres in today's match against Lyon at the Stade de Gerland.

Who are ya? A quick review of those who would challenge us

Untold Arsenal 01 November @ 05:52 AM EST
Who Are Ya? By Simon Bailey The press have gleefully swooped on Arsene's comments at the AGM and it is now gospel, we are bringing home silverware this season. Personally, I saw Arsene re-iterating the same position he has taken all season. Pundits are getting very fond of saying that we have more chance of winning the CL [. Click to continue reading...

Xavi feels the pressure

Soccerblog 23 October @ 08:14 AM EST

By Barca's high standards this year's CL performance has been shocking. A bare four points and tied with Dynamo Kyiv and Rubin Kazan at the half way mark in the group stage is not what Pep Guardiola and Xavi had in mind.

Xavi sounded a bit defensive, when he said that all the talk of an end of a cycle was nonsense and that the defeat against Rubin Kazan was unexpected.

Champions League Preview:Arsenal v Olympiakos

Arsenal Insider 29 September @ 05:52 AM EST

When Arsenal were drawn alongside Standard Liege, Olympiakos and AZ Alkmaar, fans could be forgiven for expecting easy qualification from Group H. Although still on course for this, the Arsenal players have been shown that they cannot assume the same complacency.

Standard Liege, although they were not a great side, showed that clubs are ready to give their all in the Champions League.

The Money Game: Champions League vs Europa League

The Offside: Bundesliga 15 September @ 01:37 PM EST

We're heading into a new season of European football, which for most people really only means Champions League football. The big question ahead of every Champions League season is of course not who wins it - Stuttgart won't, Wolfsburg won't and most probably Bayern won't either so why bother - but who earns how much.

It's that time. Time for the Champions League - and all the frustration it brings with it.

Man Utd have started clicking ominously

Soccerblog 14 September @ 08:03 AM EST

A goal down. A man down. And they come back and spank Spurs, 3-1. This was a huge test for both clubs. Were Spurs as good as they looked? Was Utd as vulnerable as they seemed?

What is really impressive about the way Man Utd have turned things around is that they are relying on players already within the club.

Forget missing out on the league - Liverpool FC has a bigger problem to deal with.

Liverpool Kop 30 August @ 08:10 AM EST
After a terrible start to the season, title number 19 seems as far away as ever, which is a depressing thought for every Liverpool fan. However, David Clarke believes that missing out on another title is small potatoes compared to the real problem the club must contend with this season.
Forget about Liverpool missing out on the title for a minute - has anybody considered the possibility the club could conceivably miss out on the top four? Click to continue reading...

Same procedure as every year

Football Fanaticos 28 August @ 05:30 AM EST
Every second or third year Danish clubs do well in Europe. Last year Aalborg Boldklub had an excellent spell first in the Champions League and then in the UEFA Cup, and FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland both did well in the UEFA Cup.So this season there were again great expectations that Denmark could ascend in the ranks of European clubs, perhaps even to the degree of having a team in the CL Click to continue reading...

Champions League 2009-10 Qualifiers

Football Fanaticos 19 August @ 03:38 PM EST
Panathinaikos and Atlético Madrid played a marvelous 1st leg qualifying match for the Champions League, which was a great preview for the CL. In Athens, Atlético Madrid showed its attacking force and with goals by Maxi Rodriguez, Diego Forlán and Sergio "Kun"Agüero, won a very useful 3-2 against a Panathinaikos side that will surely be a qualitative asset in the Europa League (or of course, in Click to continue reading...

Video: Battle of Britain: Arsenal 2 Celtic 0

Soccerblog 18 August @ 07:19 PM EST

A well struck free kick by Fabregas inadvertently hit William Gallas on the back and took a fortuitous deflection into goal but even if it had not there was an outside chance that the shot might have been able to evade the hands of Artur Boruc. The second goal was an own goal as an unfortunate Gary Caldwell diverted a Gael Clichy cross past his own keeper.

Rafa – Stop wasting Yossi Benayoun

Liverpool Kop 17 August @ 10:13 AM EST
Yossi Benayoun was superb in his 20 minute cameo against Spurs yesterday and looked like the only Liverpool player on the pitch who was capable of creating anything. After his excellent contribution last season, Benayoun should be starting every game but he continues to be ignored by Rafa Benitez.
I really can't understand why Benayoun didn't start at White Hart Lane; he really came into his own last season and the momentum he built up should have been allowed to continue. Click to continue reading...

What’s the best soccer league in the world, the EPL or La Liga?

The 90th Minute Soccer Blog 02 August @ 01:08 PM EST

It is only a friendly, but we must perform well against Atletico Madrid

Gunners Today 31 July @ 06:49 PM EST
So, the much Emirates cup is here. We have grown to love this competition because it shows we have a ground big enough to attract the cream of the crop. Quick Recap: How impressive was that?

The Offside - Chelsea 23 July @ 12:42 AM EST

The Special One's Inter Milan was dire, no question.

But Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea? They were quite impressive during Tuesday's decisive 2-0 win in Pasadena.

Again, Carlo broke out the 4-1-2-1-2 formation and, again, the result was a tidy attacking performance.

Arsenal: Miguel Veloso should be a priority

Soccerblog 20 July @ 09:34 PM EST

Now that we have a fair bit of money from the Adebayor sale, we should turn our attention to strengthening our defense and buy a quality holding midfielder. We missed out on Felipe Melo who signed with Juventus.

Our attention should be focused on getting Miguel Veloso from Sporting Lisbon.

Agurketid in Ã…rhus

Football Fanaticos 13 July @ 08:28 AM EST
In Danish "Agurketid" means "cucumber time", to denote a period with almost nothing in the news. I guess these days are football-agurketid for me. Sure there are matches in the Libertadores, first round CL qualifiers, the gold cup, as well as numerous rumours about transfers (although most are about Real Madrid), but without some of my favourite leagues there is not much to talk about.
