The tragic death of German goalkeeper Robert Enke has given us all some much-needed perspective.
As much as top professional players are glorified, they are still people like you and me.
Enke threw himself infront of a train on Tuesday night, after suffering from depression since
2002.

The Good
What more could you want from a game? Argentina met Peru, the latter team with no chance of
qualifying and seen by many as a whipping boy ready to roll over for Argentina and allow Maradona's
team the chance to get to the finals, and produced a thrilling, nerve-shredding qualifier.

Two of the top European 2010 World Cup qualifyers being played this weekend are the Russia vs
Germany match and the Portugal vs Hungary Match.
Russia vs Germany Preview
The clash between Russia and Germany at the Luzhniki Stadium on Saturday is probably the match
of the weekend, with both sides desperate to secure the top spot in their group and avoid having to
go to a play-off for a place in South Africa.

In an unexpected decision which shocked many, FIFA has decided to award its annual Player of the
Year award early this year, saying that United States President Barack Obama was the obvious choice
and that there was no point in delaying the decision. There has been no comment at this time from
the trio expected finalists, Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez and Christiano Ronaldo.

Wir haben darauf gewartet. Ja, jeder wusste, dass es irgendwann passieren wird, aber niemand

David Villa
David Villa or as I like to call him "Every Owner's Transfer Dream," surprisingly stayed put
this off-season at Valencia and last weekend the club showcased their rare talent to the world once
again. Villa is well known around the globe for his unique goal scoring ability and often the
star player reaches the summit of twenty league goals in a season.

Saturday's Manchester City v. Arsenal match was exciting for many reasons: six goals, fast,
fluid play, a fun atmosphere, two players playing against their former team, fans throwing all
sorts of things at one certain player... All of this made for a great match. While I'll only
mention Adebayor's celebration just this once, we can all agree it provoked emotion from both
sides, which is ultimately why we watch football.

Jermaine Defoe
All hail Jermaine Defoe. The burner is among the joint-lead in goals scored with four goals in
four matches and the key Spurs player also has his club at the top of the league table and tied for
the most Premier League goals with eleven.
Wayne Rooney
Many doubted that Rooney could fill the void left behind by Carlos Tevez and Christiano Ronaldo,
but the striker has proved early on in the year that with more touches and attention directed his
way the forward will thrive under his new role (4 goals).

In the US Open Cup final earlier this week, I (and plenty of other soccer fans) witnessed one
of the dirtiest plays in soccer since the last World Cup. Although this play was not as
legendary as the infamous Zidane headbutt or even the classic Wayne Rooney stomp of Christiano
Ronaldo's family jewels, it was still shocking to see.

Best New Player
This award is arguably the most coveted this year with all the talent overflowing into La Liga.Â
Real Madrid has three potential contenders for the award and Ibrahimovic has to be considered as
well. Ibs, Benzema, and Ronaldo will all likely have great years, but we will give the award to
Christiano Ronaldo simply because the guy doesn't have a flaw in his game.

Wake up in Metzelder's strong arms. They are like oak branches. I feel so safe. At least at first,
before I remember what happened the night before. We were so giddy from our training session, we
all piled in to what we were told was Toronto's best nightclub: the Comfort Zone on College and
Spadina.

We arrive at Pearson International. Xabi A. says my transfer fee cost the same as the Terminal 3
extension. My press agent says she'll get back to me on that. Call Paris. Line busy.
Karim, the little scamp, decides we should forgo the limos and instead take Toronto Transit
Commission's Aiport Rocket express bus to Kipling station (see above).

The England star must be left feeling frustrated and livid that United have signed a new
striker, just over a week after he pleaded with Sir Alex Ferguson for a chance to play
centre-forward for the Red Devils. Rooney has done the dirty work for Christiano Ronaldo over the
last three seasons, as Ronaldo has taken all the headlines and has earned his dream huge money move
to Real Madrid.

Latest reports in the English sporting press sugesst that Manchester United now look set to
complete a surprise move for former Newcastle and Liverpool striker Michael Owen. The diminutive
striker's contract with The Magpies expired this summer and with the club unable to support his
huge wage demands following their relegation into the English Championship, Owen left the club at
the end of last season.

CD Tenerife - PROMOTION! LA LIGA!!! CDT went into Girona needing just a point or a Hercules draw or
loss to clinch promotion. Hercules dominated their game, winning 4-1, so it was no Tenerife to get
a result, and with a 40th minute goal from Kome they did, holding out for a 1-0 victory and

It's easy to slate him, loath him and to wish he had gone to sunny Madrid last season. The truth
is, is that he is the finest player of his generation, whose pace, skill, determination, strength
and downright unpredictability has endured himself to the Premier League for years to come.
That's right; I'm talking about Christiano Ronaldo, the self confessed "playboy" and self
pampered" footballer of the most financially decadent league of all time.

So, I lead a rather unspectacular life. I have a lot of time on my hands these days, and as part of
that, I've decided it would be good to get out an exercise more - good brisk walks and some of the
many trails in the area. I want to still be around for the 50th anniversary season of MLS.
Yesterday, I was walking around, dodging thunderstorms, and something caught my eye off to the
side.

little holes).

didn't understand what the letter in the blue envelope said. It didn't help the first half was in
Arabic, or that Janey can only read at a second grade level.

In a sensational display, FC Barcelona defeated defending champions Manchester United to lift this
year's UEFA Champions League Trophy with goals from Eto and Messi. By doing so, FC Barcelona became
the first Spanish side to achieve the historic Treble in the history. I doubt whether any Barca fan
could have scripted a better game; apart from the early ten minutes, this was "The Perfect Script".

The Kids Are Our Future
Football loves dominant sides.
Think of Herbert Chapman's Arsenal of the 1920s, ravaging England with the WM formation; Real
Madrid of the early days of the European Cup, with Alfredo di Stefano and Ferenc Puskas wreaking
havoc on unsuspecting continental champions; Liverpool getting comfy on their "fucking perch,"
winning four European cups in the span of seven years in the late seventies and early eighties; AC
Milan's post-Berlusconi Dutch delight in the mid to late eighties and early nineties.

So much anticipation and pent up passion amongst the Gooner Nation. The flags for every Arsenal

Well, Wednesday night at Old Trafford wasn't a lot of laughs, was it? We were lucky to score
nil. United could very easily have caned us by four or five and effectively won the tie. I still
think we've got a mountain to climb on Tuesday night. Christiano Ronaldo hitting the woodwork was
our "get out of jail free" card for this round.
