It started out strangely enough when the teamsheet was released, with Lucas missing out due to a
mild thigh injury and Poulsen unexpectedly seeing his second start in a row, and though the Dane
again wasn't a massive liability, his frequent wandering and at times over-ambitious hit or miss
passing did noticeably hurt Liverpool's ability to control the center of the park.
**With no real breaking news on the transfer front and Ed and I
feeling as though there's little more to say that hasn't already been said, it seems as though it
wouldn't hurt to bump this post on tactics back to the top of the page. It went up while people
were already occupied with the initial Torres rumours, and an hour later the Suarez story broke and
completely buried it.
In the previous post on Babel and the worst transfers of the last decade, I should have better
differentiated between a "bad player" and a "bad signing." Buying Alberto Aquilani was an awful,
awful deal, but Alberto Aquilani's an outstanding player. Philipp Degen is a terrible full-back but
was a free signing that didn't cost Liverpool much more than wages and overtime for the medical
staff.
Roy Hodgson has underlined his ambition to make changes to the Liverpool squad in the transfer
window and "stamp his philosophy" on the team.
Hodgson has come under heavy pressure in recent times, with Liverpool failing to deliver consistent
performances and the manager having failed to secure the support of a significant number of the
fans.
Liverpool have sacked manager Roy Hodgson and have replaced him with Kenny Dalglish who has
taken the caretaker manager role until the remainder of this season.
"We are grateful for Roy's efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the
best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager," said Principal
Owner John Henry.
Liverpool are planning to offload a number of their squad as they look to freshen their squad with
new additions this month. Caretaker boss Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli have identified a number
of players they believe can be sold to help trim costs at the club ahead of potential additions.
The likes of Ryan Babel, Glen Johnson, Emiliano Insua, Milan Jovanovic, Paul Konchesky and
Christian Poulsen will all be made available either for permanent exits or loan deals.
Liverpool head to Bloomfield Road looking for away win number two.
Fortuitous that the whole undersoil heating debacle pushed this one back, yes?
Doesn't make tomorrow's task any easier, of course, but at least there's a bit of optimism and
feel-good factor for Liverpool heading into yet another away match.
Liverpool continue the slide, falling 2-1 at Blackpool.
Dunno whether it's just my flu getting worse or if watching was that traumatic, but I'm feeling
like shit, so this'll be an open thread for now. Some positives to go with the supremely
disappointing result better football played by Liverpool on the whole, particularly in the first
half, and signs that there's enough talent in the squad to play that type of football on a
consistent basis.
Everton visit Anfield for the 215th Merseyside derby.
And, for what seems like the 215th time this season, Liverpool are tasked with rebounding from a
difficult result.
Obviously things are different now Kenny Dalglish is in charge, most of the squad is available
and on full fitness, and the atmosphere around the club is much more positive.
Considering they have only won at Anfield twice in 19 Premier League visits and three times in over
25 years Everton would probably be the happier of the two teams following Sunday's 2-2 draw.
But looking at the game the lack of form, confidence and in some cases quality is there for all to
see across both sides.

After four games, performances finally lead to a result. A deservedly comprehensive three-goal away
win, for Dalglish's first victory in his second stint as Liverpool's manager.
Liverpool start to put it all together in the win over Wolves.
Well that was a bit more like it, wasn't it?
In the days leading up to the match I was, admittedly, a bit nervous about how things would play
out today. Things had been trending positively for Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish, but, as I
mentioned in the match preview yesterday, the need for points was starting to trump the need to
wash the bad taste out of our mouths after six months of lowered expectations and
disappointment.
Liverpool's revival under Kenny Dalglish is officially under way after he secured his first win
since returning for his second spell as Reds boss in the 3-0 victory at Wolves.
Having seen improvements on the pitch if not in results in his three previous matches in charge
after taking over from Roy Hodgson the Scot finally got the victory he was craving.
With news coming out that Paul Konchesky's move back to his former club Fulham is all but
assured, it looks as though Liverpool will be saying goodbye to one more reminder of the
short-lived Roy Hodgson era at anfield. This is, at least on the surface, good news, though it has
been in the works in some form or another for a while now.
