Lausanne (AFP) – Sion club president Christian Constantin, caught on tape slapping a prominent critic in the face after a match last month, has been banned for 14 months, the Swiss Football League said Thursday.

Constantin’s assault of former Swiss national team coach and current TV pundit Rolf Fringer on September 21 also earned him a 100,000 Swiss franc ($103,000, 87,000 euros) fine.

A minor storm has whipped up over in the Swiss top flight where Sion club president Christian Constantin stands accused of thrashing the living daylights out of a television pundit directly after a match.

Sion lost 2-1 against Lugano in the Super League and, presumable peeved by the result, Constantin took out his frustrations on Rolf Fringer, the former Switzerland national team boss who now works as an analyst for Teleclub.
