As promised, here is a link to the feature I wrote on Roberto Nurse, Chivas USA's latest signing.

Of course, I forgot to take my camera down from the press box to the mixed zone so I didn't get a chance to snap a shot of him.

On Sunday, I expect Nurse to start. Click to continue reading...

USA Men’s Olympic Roster Named

1

The roster for the US U23 squad that will play at the upcoming Olympic games has been named. Lots of familiar names including including Brian McBride, Brad Guzan and Michael Parkurst as the three older players allowed under the rules. Freddy Adu, Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and some others. Then there's the fellow pictured in the photo (by Micheal Goulding, Orange County Register) who I've seen plenty of as I've become a Chivas USA fan this season:

Sacha Kljestan, captain of Team USA during Olympic qualifying, is also a lock to be named Thursday to the U.

Another soccer-filled weekend is on tap, so let's get to it.

*The Galaxy are out of town in New York where Claudio Reyna retired this week and the Red Bulls signed two South American midfielders who could make their debuts Saturday.

The game airs live at 3:30 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel and a crowd of more than 45,000 is expected to turn out largely to see David Beckham who continues to prove why he's nicknamed Golden Balls.

New York Courting Ruiz?

That sound you hear is those Red Bull fans yelling at team management to not make this possible move. But according to Ives Galarcep on his Soccer By Ives blog, the New York Red Bulls are said to be looking into trading for LA Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz. The Red Bulls are considering acquiring Guatamalan forward [. Click to continue reading...

Xavier Waived

1

The Galaxy waived defender Abel Xavier today, which is not surprising since he and Coach Ruud Gullit had a poor relationship.
``We don't have any kind of relationship, unfortunately,'' Xavier said. ``I don't accept any coach who thinks I pretend to be injured.''
Gullit questioned whether Xavier was actually injured last week when he sat out the game against Chivas USA.

We just received the following in our email:

"Dear MLS RUMORS,
Huge visitor to your site and a long time revs fan. I just hear on my local new station in New Hampshire (WMUR) that a plane from Logan Airport, MA had to make an emergency stop in Kansas City because supposedly a person on the flight stripped down naked, changed clothes and then tried to open the door of the plane. Naked Revolution

Sounds like the New England Revolution had a strange flight to Southern California today for Sunday's SuperLiga game against Chivas USA:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City on Friday after a passenger stripped, put his clothes back on and then tried to open an emergency exit door before being subdued by members of a pro soccer team andothers, the FBI said.

MLS Matchday: Week 17

3

Good afternoon all. Today is a relatively light schedule as four teams continue their SuperLiga exploits. That doesn't mean there still aren't some entertaining match-ups on the slate.

David Beckham's return to New York leads the way as the golden one plays in front of a packed Giants Stadium today.

Winning mentality

A group of reporters were in the Home Depot Center press box when we found out that Abby Wambach was probably out of the Olympics. Since I was covering the Chivas USA/Santos SuperLiga game in LA, I was there instead of San Diego. Billy Witz checked the Internet for the score of the match and read the news. Revolutionary heroes

Tomorrow, the New England Revolution will play Chivas USA in a SuperLiga match. But three members of the Revs staff have already distinguished themselves by subduing a disruptive passenger on their Boston-Los Angeles flight a few days ago. I'm pretty sure that Mike Burns, Craig Tornberg, and Gwynne Williams don't necessarily see themselves as heroes but rather as people who did what needed to be done at the time.
