The Philadelphia Union are working on solidifying their 2012 friendly schedule by talking to
Newcastle United about playing in Philadelphia during the summer, according to a report.
"I Wish I Was A Geordie," an American Newcastle blog, is reporting that Newcastle and the Union
are discussing the two clubs playing an international friendly this year.
Arsenal's season hasn't gone quite according to plan, but a win today against Aston VIlla in FA
Cup Fourth Round action could help ease some of the pressure being faced by Arsene Wenger these
days.
Wenger has been roundly criticized since the Gunners' loss to Manchester United last week, but a
win today might help ease some of that backlash.
It has been announced that the Philadelphia Union would be hosting the 2012 MLS All-Star game at
PPL Park. Philadelphia is an ideal location and few could argue they do not deserve to host such an
event. They have a lively crowd who are passionate, knowledgeable and they have a facility which
rivals every stadium in MLS save perhaps for LiveStrong Park.
Why have the Philadelphia Union added a scrimmage against Florida Gulf Coast University, of all
places, to their preseason warm-up tour? With approximately 12,000 students including post-grads
and a "noteable alumni" list that consists of a professional monster trucker and Don Carman
(retired Philadelphia Phillies pitcher from the 80's), what put the FGCU Eagles on the radar?
Landon Donovan is coming off an outstanding match in Everton's 1-1 draw vs. Aston Villa last
week, and he will look to post an even better performance against struggling Blackburn today.
Donovan will look to jump-start an offense that has has its share of struggles, but an offense
that could have a field day against struggling Rovers.
PPL Park could soon show itself off to the North American soccer community, as the Philadelphia
Union's game day home is one of two finalists for the 2012 MLS All Star Game. A league source
informs the Brotherly Game that PPL Park and Sporting Kansas City's Livestrong Park are the last of
a group of stadiums, which included the Vancouver Whitecaps' BC Place and the Montreal Impact's
Saputo Stadium, but "nothing [is] firm" yet.

With leagues coming off their winter breaks, and England diving into FA Cup action, today's
slate of matches will give us the first good schedule of activity of the new year.
The Mexican League gets its Clausura season underway this weekend, as Herculez Gomez and Santos

A wild weekend that included several major upsets concluded Sunday night in Mexico, where the
four semifinal places in the Apertura playoffs were set.
Chivas de Guadalajara, despite finishing first in the regular season standings, could not
overturn the deficit from their shocking 2-1 loss to Queretaro from last week.
The early offseason continues to be fairly busy for Sporting KC fans to follow, and continues today
with news out of Mexico on one of the Wizards designated players, Omar Bravo. Bravo was apparently
down in Mexico today visiting his old club, Chivas de Guadalajara. Bravo is apparently interested
in training or playing with a team while MLS is in it's offseason.

As usual, there is plenty of action taking place on U.S. television this weekend, but let's face
it, there's one match that dominates the schedule. This past weekend, Manchester United faltered
and dropped to second in the English Premier League behind intercity rival Manchester City and also
lost the top spot to its hated adversary in the latest WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World.

It's been over a year since Herculez Gomez last represented the U.S. men's national team, but
that drought could soon end after Gomez's latest goal-scoring performance.
For the fourth straight game that he's played in, Gomez scored a goal.
No KC didn't win their friendly with Chivas de Guadalajara last night, the two ended up drawing
2-2, but the bigger thing to take from the game last night was that no one picked up an injury and
most of the projected starters that played last night didn't play more than 45 minutes. Last night
also turned into a better night in league play yesterday for KC, as two teams chasing KC in the
playoff race dropped points.

The MLS season resumes Wednesday night with a couple of matches featuring teams in the thick of
the playoff hunt. Both D.C. United and the Chicago Fire need to come away with points to maintain
their hopes at sneaking into one of the remaining playoff berths.
While Vancouver can play spoiler for D.
Tomorrow Sporting KC have their second friendly of the season when they host Chivas Guadalajara at
LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. The game was part off the deal that brought Omar Bravo to Kansas City
this year. Guadalajara's roster is full of plenty of first teamers with them on the trip including
captain Hector Reynoso and vice-captain Luis Ernesto Michel.

The international break means fewer matches to watch this weekend, but there's still a host of
Euro 2012 qualifiers, Mexican league matches and a pair of MLS games to keep you occupied.
Oh, and there's that U.S. men's national team game, as well.

Whether it was injuries, being out of form or something else, DaMarcus Beasley had a hard time
getting minutes at the club level in recent years.
Those days are long gone, with Beasley's latest performance serving as the latest piece of
evidence that Beasley is back.

For a D.C. United team that is an intriguing darkhorse contender in the wide-open Eastern
Conference, Saturday's match at the Seattle Sounders could be a telling barometer of where the club
stands.

After managing to win three straight games in all competitions and whipping the Fire faithful
into a state of mild delirium, the Men in Red went right back to their old ways in dropping a 2-0
away contest to an underwhelming San Jose Earthquakes side. The loss has basically shut the window
on any hopes of an appearance in the 2011 MLS playoffs (How many times have we said that this year

Yesterday I talked about the potential issue of Sporting KC selling tickets in the Members Stand to
Chivas Guadalajara fans in the hundreds. Today some good news and a common sense move by the
Sporting KC front office. Word from one of the leadership in the Cauldron is that the team has
canceled all tickets bought in the members stand by Chivas fans and they've been reissued to the
"away section".
It's an extremely light weekend on television this week in the United States, unless you count
ESPN3 (which isn't really television) because it's mostly international action and most of those
matches are going on at the same time (Friday, 2:45 EDT). Therefore, we are foregoing our Top Five
Matches of the Weekend until next week while we work on the Monthly International Rankings and
watch a little international football.
Today an interesting comment was posted on the KC Cauldron's Twitter account. According to the
Cauldron, Sporting KC has sold "hundreds of tickets in the members stand to Guadalajara fans". If
true (and usually if things like this aren't true the team immediately takes to Big Soccer to
respond) this is just asking for problems.

The chase for Club Tijuana forward Joe Benny Corona just got a bit more interesting.
Corona has been called up by Mexico's Under-22 side for a pair of matches against Chile's
Under-22s. Corona is joined on the roster by another California native, Chivas de Guadalajara left
back Miguel Angel Ponce.

Sporting Kansas City is giving Designated Player Omar Bravo a chance to go up against his former
team.
The MLS club announced that it will play a friendly with Chivas de Guadalajara on Oct. 12 at
Livestrong Sporting Park. The match follows a bye week for Sporting KC, but it also comes three
days before what could be a crucial match beween the club and the New York Red Bulls considering
the current playoff picture.
Back in late July we heard from Robb Heineman that the friendly against Chivas de Guadalajara was
looking good to take place in October this year. Late last night the Star put out an article saying
that today the team would announce that the friendly will take place on Wednesday, October 12th at
LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.

It's time to bring you another listing of weekend soccer action on American television. As I've
said before, I started compiling this list just so I could figure out what I want to watch each
weekend. Now, that I'm living in Argentina, this list is pretty irrelevant to me, but we will
continue to bring it to you on a timely basis.
