Fredrickson in the first half on Friday as the Colorado School of Mines defeated Regis University
2-1 in a battle of top 20 teams.
Reflective of the matchup, Regis led in shots (32-10), corners (10-3), and fouls (15-10).
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action included goalfests and defensive struggles on Friday
afternoon, as the nation's top ranked men's soccer team scored an impressive victory, while another
team wrapped an 8-0 victory.
And in Durango, two teams with a history of yellow cards and active dislike needed more than 90
minutes to find a winner.
Metro State midfielder Steve Emory and Regis University midfielder Marissa Davis were named the
preseason players of the year in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Also, Fort Lewis defender Jamie Cunningham was named the preseason defensive player of the year
for the men. Colorado School of Mines goalkeeper Briana Schulze picked up the defensive honor among
the women in awards released Thursday.
Bashi Baker scored both goals as the No. 3-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers defeated
the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 2-0 Sunday at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Oredigger goalie Manville Strand earned the win, making five saves.
Baker's first goal came in the 13th minute on a pass from Tesho Akindele.
Oredigger Chike Sullivan has been tabbed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player
of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Sullivan helped lead No. 3 Mines to a 2-0 start in conference play last week as Mines remained
undefeated with a record of 5-0 overall. CSM opened RMAC play at home on Friday posting a 5-0
victory against Mesa State.
Mines 4, Fort Lewis 2: The nation's No. 1 team in Division II pulled off a
rare win in Durango on Friday, as the Orediggers earned a victory over Fort Lewis 4-2 at Dirks
Field.
Fort Lewis had not lost at home since Oct. 14, 2007, and had either tied or won 36 consecutive RMAC
matches up until today.
Colorado School of Mines' Manville Strand and Chike Sullivan were named the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week as announced today by the RMAC. CSM
also remained ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Division II National Poll.
Mines picked up a pair of wins in conference play last week against Fort Lewis and Mesa
State.
It was a busy Sunday. In fact, it was a too busy Sunday of action in the RMAC women's soccer, as
Fort Lewis and Metro State tied, Colorado Mines tumbled and Regis rolled.
Fort Lewis 1, Metro State 1: In the second showdown in a week, the current
league leaders and the holders of the conference title in the previous eight seasons settled for a
1-1 draw.
The No.3-ranked Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team thrashed No. 11 Regis University by a
score of 5-1 on Thursday afternoon at the CSM Soccer Stadium in the first round of the NCAA
Tournament
The Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in similar fashion to the last time these two teams
met.
Three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference players were named first team All-Americans, and a
total of seven players from the conference made it on to one of the three teams.
Midfielders Chike Sullivan, from Colorado School of Mines, and Steven Emory, from Metro State
College of Denver, along with Mines forward Tesho Akindele made the first team.
