We have reached the midway point of Serie A 2010/2011. Unofficially the winter break has always
been the midway point, as teams go on vacation and start planning their transfer strategy for the
January market. Officially the real midway point is after the 19th giornata, but the winter break
always feels like the real midway point.

Two of my sporting pet peeves were achieved against Chievo, which is impressive due to its
rarity:
i. Throwing away games to lesser teams. I can't decide if it's 2006 all over again or just
September.
ii. This is a big one, mostly because it shows a distinct lack of depth in thought from people who
are paid to think.
insperato.

If you are into Italian football you may be slightly confused nowadays. Why? Well, because
everything looks so different from, let's say, six/seven months ago.
Just go back and think about the end of May 2010: Inter on top of the Serie A and ended the
season as European Champions; Juventus struggling after a dramatic season with Ferrara (first) and
Zaccheroni (second) on the bench, not able to qualify for the Champions League; AC Milan barely
getting a spot for the main European league; AS Roma losing the scudetto at the last fixture of the
season.
MILAN, Italy Marco Di Vaio scored an injury-time winner to give Bologna a 2-1 victory over Chievo
Verona in Wednesday's only Serie A game. The striker pounced on a loose ball moments after Chievo
midfielder Michele Marcolini had blocked his goalbound shot for a corner. Chievo failed to clear
the corner and Di Vaio [.
Bologna Milan The home side have the best defensive record at home in Serie A and they come up
against a free scoring Rossoneri outfit with enough attacking talent to unlock the meanest of
defences. A midweek victory over Chievo has renewed confidence at the Renato Dall'Ara amid all the
off field uncertainty.

MILAN, Italy Rampant AC Milan surged six points clear after the Serie A leaders triumphed 3-0 at
troubled Bologna and rivals Lazio conceded at the death in a 2-1 defeat at Juventus. Juve moved
second and level on points with Lazio after Milos Krasic's effort from a narrow angle went in off
goalkeeper Fernando [.
So, we are now 16 games into the season, and only one week away from the annual winter break.
Milan, no matter what they do vs. Roma this weekend, will be top of the table going into the winter
break for the first time in a very long time. However, they can't be too comfortable as the trio of
Juventus, Napoli, and Lazio are all breathing down their necks only 6 points away.
1. Juventus in second after 2-1 win over Lazio
A fantastic match between two sides which battled for the win. Juventus took the lead in the
first minutes with Chiellini powering his way through a weak Lazio defence on a corner, heading in
a temporary lead for the bianconeri.
The eternal Hernan Crespo has struck again, ending Fiorentina's Coppa Italia run. While the
Coppa Italia isn't too interesting in the early stages, I really do enjoy it when it reaches the
round of eight, like it has now. Maybe it's due to the different mentality teams have when they
play knockout football, and it occasionally produces spectacular last-minute goals.
AC
Milan's Scudetto credentials will be tested when they come up against a strong
Roma team on Saturday night.
Juventus, Lazio and Napoli each have 30 points in joint second and are trying to keep the
pressure on Milan.
Juve are unbeaten in 12 league games and visit Chievo on
Sunday.
And so, the first half of the Serie A season is gone. Wow did that go by fast. It feels like it
was Giornata 1 just yesterday. Now it's vacation time for the calciatori of Serie A, who go escape
to warm weather with their families for a little bit and then get right back to training for a
January 6th re-start.
Serie A Weekly is taking a look at the team of the week. 4-2-3-1 formation Goalkeeper Stefano
Sorrentino (Chievo) Until going off injured Sorrentino was in brilliant form and was alert to any
danger that went before him. He denied Quagliarella, Iaquinta and Pepe. Sadly he could stop
Quagliarella wonderful overhead kick Defence Ignazio Abate(Ac Milan) Was very industrious on the
right hand side.
