In Part 2 of our Chicagoland Academy Round-up, we are covering the Chicago Magic. Part 1 went
over the Chicago Fire Academy and in Part 3 we will cover Sockers FC.
The Chicago Magic are in a bit of a Jekyll & Hyde mode when it comes to their academy these
days. The younger teams seem to do exceedingly well but the U-15/16 and U-17/18 squads struggled in
the 2009-2010 season and 2010-2011 has started out very lackluster as well.
Aris Nukic, Mehlville (2012)/STLSG Metro Academy
From the DC United website D.C. United's roster continued its evolution today with the signing of
19-year-old centerback Ethan White, marking the fourth occasion since September of 2009 that the
Black-and-Red have promoted a former Academy player to the first team.
Jeremy Alumbaugh, SIU-E soccer assistant coach
In a move long rumored (I first heard about it in late May) former Missouri State Bear's assistant
and Springfield SC Director Jeremy Alumbaugh has returned to the Missouri Valley Conference.
Alumbaugh has joined the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars staff, one of two new members of the MVC.
Alec Cochran, CBC Cadets (2011)
From the Grapevine Soccer Network website and US Soccer comes the following: Alec (AJ) Cochran, 17,
from Ballwin, was recently selected to play for the U18 US National team in 4 games in Argentina
and Chile later this month.
AJ will be a senior at CBC and plays club soccer for St.
The United States World Cup Team in South Africa will have a distinctly Chicago Fire flavor.
In fact, one can make a strong case that the Fire has had more influence on this squad than any
other single club has since five members of St. Louis Simpkins-Ford were on the 1950 US World Cup
roster that upset England in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

National Freshman of the Year candidate Perry Kitchen spent two and a half years in Residency in
Bradenton, but grew up playing for the Chicago Magic.
