The U-15/16 age group took to the fields at the FC Dallas Stadium Complex for the second day of
matches on Wednesday, setting up an exciting final day on Friday with every group still looking for
a winner. The teams kept up their pace, scoring more than 50 goals in 16 games for the second
straight day.
The Chicago Fire announced that Mike Matkovich and Leo Percovich will return to the club as
Frank Klopas' assistant coaches for the 2012 season. Matkovich rejoins the Fire as an assistant
coach, having previously served in the role for the club from 2009-10. The fact that Klopas is
bringing Matkovich back on suggests that there was some kind of rift between Matkovich and former
Fire head coach Carlos de los Cobos.
Several teams from Chicago and the Midwest will be playing in championship games over the next
18 hours. If you read the site earlier you already know about the Chicago Fire U-15 & U-19 clubs.
Today, the Chicago Red Stars defeated Tampa Bay Hellenic 2-1 to advance to the Women's Premier

while the U-17/18 team gave up two goals in the second half to lose 2-0.

From the DC United website D.C. United's roster continued its evolution today with the signing of
19-year-old centerback Ethan White, marking the fourth occasion since September of 2009 that the
Black-and-Red have promoted a former Academy player to the first team.
In Part 2 of our Chicagoland Academy Round-up, we are covering the Chicago Magic. Part 1 went
over the Chicago Fire Academy and in Part 3 we will cover Sockers FC.
The Chicago Magic are in a bit of a Jekyll & Hyde mode when it comes to their academy these
days. The younger teams seem to do exceedingly well but the U-15/16 and U-17/18 squads struggled in
the 2009-2010 season and 2010-2011 has started out very lackluster as well.
After only five training sessions squeezed in after the end of the high school season, the

13-14 weekend to play its first games since its MTA's recent acceptance into the U.

The most notable concerns about this squad are the omission of Charles Renken and Joseph
Gyau recent Hoffenheim signings who had trouble at Bradenton. Sebastian Lleget, is also not on the
squad. The omission of the West Ham Academy player is a huge blow for Wilmer Cabrera's
side.

As a follow-up to last month's announcement, Chicago Magic Soccer Club Technical Director Raul Diaz
Arce was inducted into D.C. United's Hall of Tradition on Saturday. Here is a video of teammates
and staff reflecting on his MLS career. An interesting note from Eddie Pope, talking about how Diaz
Arce ran 5 miles before the team's training would even get underway:

The United States World Cup Team in South Africa will have a distinctly Chicago Fire flavor.Â
In fact, one can make a strong case that the Fire has had more influence on this squad than any
other single club has since five members of St. Louis Simpkins-Ford were on the 1950 US World Cup
roster that upset England in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
