::: FistedAway welcomes a guest post from Mark Patterson :::
Ireland striker Robbie Keane intends to fulfil the last major ambition of his career by making a
January switch to a club for which he feels absolutely nothing.
Keane, 31, has played for nine different clubs since he left Crumlin United as a bright-eyed
youngster for the bright lights and orange shirts of Wolves, but told Fisted Away that he had set
his heart on a new challenge.
Confessions of a Football Reporter...another Biggs at Large By Alan Biggs Published by Vertical
Editions, August 2011 £12.99 ISBN: 9781904091516 In the second of three book reviews we should be
publishing this week, we welcome back Ian Rands of A United View on Football. Ian was lucky enough
recently to secure an interview with football journalist Alan Biggs - the BBC's go-to guy for South
Forgive me for suggesting this, but this bottom of the table match seems a lot less special an
occasion than the last time these two met. That game marked the passage into the history books of
one of the few remaining `proper' English football grounds, Saltergate, rendering the 2-1 win for
the home side frankly irrelevant.
Darius Charles: Grabbed Boro's 1st goal in League 1
Chesterfield 1-1 Stevenage | Charles 40, Lester 97
npower league 1 | b2net stadium | 5,836
A late late goal from Jack Lester prevented Boro from taking all 3 points at the b2net Stadium.
In what was a scrappy game, Boro were well on course to their first win in League 1 when Darius
Charles headed home from a corner 5 minutes before half-time.

It feels a bit like Groundhog day at the moment and it's not because I'm stuck in the Insurance
industry from 9 til 5 during the week. It is however because Stevenage have begun this season in a
very similar fashion to last year's campaign. A draw at home in the league has been followed by a
narrow defeat in the Carling Cup first round to Championship opposition.

Spanning our coverage to three divisions would always present problems when deciding upon this
season's best team. Just as the WBA, IBF and WBC versions of international boxing competed for
eminence in the 1980s, Queen's Park Rangers, Chesterfield and Brighton and Hove Albion possess
equal claims to be the top canines thirty or so years on.
It will come as no surprise that the words ‘simply' and ‘astonishing' were used by several
different contributors independently of one another in reference to Paul Lambert's stewardship at
Carrow Road. It's a kind of rags to riches story that's been done to death, of course. Indeed, in
trying to sum the past two years, which have seen Lambert pick Norwich up by the scruff and
build a mentally
Our votes in this most storied of categories were split evenly and many of the usual characters
cropped up. Grant Holt, so hearteningly wonderful in this year of Canary yellow, will be looking
back on his days as a definitive journeyman and Singapore leaguer with disbelief and Scott
Sinclair's play off heroics confirmed an ability to link wideside flair with end product.
By a nose, Scunthorpe United take this year's Best Fans Award. Last season, the gong went to Pride
Park for Derby's 29,207 average gate, "a freak of nature" according to my co-editor Lanterne Rouge.
The Iron may not have enjoyed the same kind of footfall, but their Keep Scunthorpe Standing
Campaign, championed by the Football Supporters' Federation, attracted interest and support from

Given that this year's awards involved a six man panel nominating across three leagues of twenty
four, there was bound to be divergence in opinion but in the Bargain Buy category we also
encountered a further dilemma: what, 'in these challenging times', constitutes a good deal? He

Like Achilles' ankles or Steffi Graf's backhand, Swansea City's weakness over the past few seasons
of approximate excellence has been all too obvious. Jason Scotland was the key fulcrum for a time,
but the goals for column has rarely been a totalizer at the Liberty. That all ended this Spring
when Brendan Rodgers - he of the Big League contacts - took a drive down Fulham Broadway and came

That's the message that Graham Westley is sending out ahead of Boro's crucial clash with Bury
tomorrow afternoon. Westley is hoping that the "siege" mentality will have a positive effect on the
game, with Boro possibly needing to win to stay in the play-off places. Referee decisions have cost
his team in their last 2 away games and GW has planted a little seed in the referee's mind ahead
of the game.
Between ourselves and fellow Football League websites The Seventy Two and Soccer AM/MW, coverage
of Chesterfield Football Club's 2010-11 has been scant thus far - surprising given the club's
arrival in a new home and subsequent ascent to a comfortable first place in League Two. With the
Derbyshire men a full eleven points clear of fourth placed Bury, it was high time we put this
oversight right.
Chesterfield 1-0 Boro (Talbot 42)
Highlights | Westley Interview
Another game and another 1-0 defeat. It's starting to get predictable away from Broadhall Way.
Boro have now lost 4 of their last 5 league games by just the one goal and it was the same story
again yesterday as a solitary Drew Talbot strike was enough to give Chesterfield the 3 points and
leave Graham Westley's side in 17th place, 5 points off the relegation zone.
A week after the Cup heroics against Newcastle, it's back to the bread and butter of the
league. A visit to table toppers Chesterfield and their brand new B2Net Stadium awaits Graham
Westley's side. The Spirietes currently top League 2 and are beginning to pull away from the teams
around them. They are currently four points clear of 2nd placed Rotherham, while Wycombe are a
point further back, although they have played a game more.
League Two 2010/2011: The Story So Far Goals, goals galore is a post from: Just Football
With nearly half the campaign gone in English football's fourth tier, League
Two, we welcome a new contributor to Just Football. Simon Godfrey is here
to take us through the season so far.
On 3 January 2004, Plymouth Argyle got off to a brilliant start against Chesterfield, scoring 5
goals in the first 18 minutes. They added 2 more to complete the 7-0 rout and match their
biggest-ever margin of victory. Playing before a crowd of 13,109 at Plymouth's Home Park, the hosts
were celebrating their centennial year [.
