It was a breath of fresh air (literally) to be back in Chicago on Wednesday. After months of humidity in the Southeast, the cool and dry air of the Windy City offered a welcome respite. Since there is no viable public transport from downtown to Bridgeview, we were forced to battle the rush-hour traffic out to the stadium.

Guatemala v. USA: Play time is over

27
We're not playing Barbados anymore, I don't think Guatemala has to put up ads looking for players on their federation website.

The semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying begins tonight, with the US playing probably its most difficult game of the round first. Guatemala should advance with the US into the Hex, and this game will be a chance to gauge where both teams stand. Click to continue reading...

US 8-0 Barbados - Player Grades

13
US 8-0 Barbados

Anyway you look at this, it was a great way for the US to start their World Cup run. This was the expected result and the team lived up to it, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. With that in mind, here are the player grades:

Starting XI
Brad Guzan (GK) - What a boring way to up your international appearance numbers. Click to continue reading...

GAM theory

"We only score with our Johnson." -- various, circa 2006 World Cup. To think. To actually think that when Eddie Johnson came on as a 61st minute subsitution with the USMNT down 2-1 to Ghana in the final Group E match for Stever Cherundolo, most supporters were excited. This was the G-A-M, the grown ass man. Click to continue reading...

Victory in Krakow

3
I didn't get to see enough of the USA/Poland match to write a full match report, but I just wanted to come on here to quickly point out how great our defense looked against a quality European team. It wasn't enough for Bocanegra and Onyewu to just shut down every one of Poland's attacks, they also felt the need to each score a goal too! Click to continue reading...
