Even the presence of newly-crowned US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro - a
noted member of the Los Xeneizes family didn't bring Boca Juniors the
luck they needed yesterday.
Cristian Chavez scored the decisive 90th-minute winner for
Godoy Cruz as they defeated Boca Juniors 3-2 at the Bombonera stadium.

Our great win against the Brum was truly marred by The Modfather's leg fracturing and Ledley
suffering a groin injury.
I suppose the one bit of good news is that Woody came through his first training session on
Friday. I'm not sure how long he'll still be out for though, but seeing as we don't play for two
weeks, he could be fit in time for our biggest test yet, Manchester United at home, although I
don't think he'll be match-fit.

I believe this deal has been in the works for a few days but now it is a little more official.
FC Dallas has signed Honduran forward/midfielder Marvin Chávez on loan from CD Marathon of
Honduras' Primera División. He will officially join the team pending a medical exam and receipt of
his International Transfer Card (ITC) and P1 work visa.

The USA Men's "Road to the Subs Bench 2010 Tour" played Honduras last night with Bob "I'm
Going to the World Cup So Suck It" Bradley firmly in command.
Los Catrachos are, of course, a credible side and promised to give the US a better idea of how our
guys stack up than did Grenada.

Thunder 1-2 Puerto Rico
The Minnesota Thunder continued their woeful ways with another home loss, this time to the
struggling Puerto Rico Islanders. The team had stretches of play that were good but gave away too
many chances to the skillful Islanders who finished those opportunity.

First off - Beulah's match report is up! (This is on the Breakers' win over the Freedom ...
which ranked somewhere below a broken windshield in Beulah's book ... understandably!) Sorry to
hear about your windshield! As for Abby not getting up - that was a huge gripe of mine (and my
compatriots) back in the WUSA days when "Get up Abby" was a favorite refrain when the Freedom were
in town.

Happy Saturday morning ... as the clouds roll in, bringing some much needed rain to these
parts. I went for a run yesterday after work and jogging by the fire house, noticed the sign
saying that the fire danger was "extreme." (Breathed a small sigh of relief that I wasn't
lounging by the chiminea, endangering the neighborhood without realizing!

There are some advantages when the Internet, telephones and computer system go down
simultaneously at work (keep in mind I work at a newspaper): I could remain blissfully ignorant
Tuesday of the stunning Liverpool-Chelsea UEFA Champions League game until I could go home and
watch it (ah, I miss the pre-blogging days some times) held on the eve of English football's most
tragic day and with memories of the even more amazing Liverpool comeback in the 2005 UEFA Champions
League final still fresh.

MLS Rumors 20 July @ 01:37 PM EST
Despite what others may have you believee today is anything but slow in terms of deals being lined
up for players coming or leaving MLS. A few rumors are popping around the football world in
CONCACAF this lazy summer Sunday.
It would appear that the deal to bring the Honduran attacking midfielder to DC United is pretty
much a done deal from the wording in this article today from Honduran news site La Prensa:
"En esta temporada el zaguero central Osman Chávez se erige como el capitán y el
líder que buscará contagiar de dinamismo a sus compañeros, ahora que Carlos Will
Mejía partirá a la MLS.
