Though puzzled by the frequent visual proof that footballers actually buy their groceries
themselves (rather than hiring imported servants and/or desperate peasants to do their manual
labour), we love seeing footballers doing the groceries.
For example, here's Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov stocking up on H20 and other goodies at
Sainsburys in Wilmslow two days ago.

A couple of years back I was looking forward to seeing Persija play Persiba. The reason? Persiba
were coached by former West Ham player Peter Butler and I thought he would make an interesting
interview.
Anyway, ahead of the game he only went and got the sack. Most frustrating but hey. That's football

The
Globe and Mail is a good place to begin this series because their soccer page
illustrates the core problem with online newspaper coverage of football in North America (actually,
the soccer page speaks to the problem with online newspapers full stop, but we'll get to that
later).
The home page looks nice enough, but there is almost no original content apart from a generic
"Globe staff" by-line attached to a few articles and a La Liga piece from the excellent Paul
Attfield dated December 22nd.

A real wackiness is setting in on this year's Golden Boot chase in Major League Soccer. With six
regular season weeks remaining, the league's top goal scorers presently are all lesser likely
candidates in their own way.
If you asked supporters at their respective clubs, or fans who follow MLS action closely, for
assessments of these guys individually, you'd probably get replies that fell somewhere between
"just OK" and "fairly unsatisfying.
I wrote recently that the MVP chase in Major League Soccer is a slippery, elusive beast. Things
