Looks a bit more quiet on the Samir Nasri transfer buzz as the player plays down the rumours.
Hopefully negotiations can get back on track without the distractions of the last few days.
Meanwhile Liam Brady, in charge of youth development is optimistic that Nasri will still be at
Arsenal.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Charlton Athletic White Hart Lane, London January 9, 2011 Result:- Tottenham
3-0 Charlton ( Andros Townsend, Jermain Defoe*2) A brace from Jermain Defoe and an early second

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell confessed he is surprised that the Finnish Football
Association announced that Carl Jenkinson is an Arsenal player. Speaking to News Shopper, the
Englishman revealed that the Addicks met with the Gunners ...
That is what I said when I heard that we signed the youngster from Charlton for 1 million
pounds. This is by no means, an article aimed at bad mouthing or taking shots at Jenkinson. I am
sure that he is a talented player and a nice young lad. I trust that Wenger has a plan for him and
hope that he has an excellent career in North London.
You'd have to be seriously weird not to prioritise this level of cuteness over a boring trophy,
surely? Image: Getty Images/Daylife
You might have noticed that Arsene Wengers 'policy of youth' at Arsenal in recent years has led
to the occasional barb of criticism being flung in his direction. However, we don't follow the line
of traditional football theory on this site (as you've probably noticed) and Wenger's practice of
fielding the youngest, gonkiest, bunch of Adorkable boys he can find in big games has been an
unqualified success in our book.
As Piers Morgan said, "is this what Wenger meant by shoring up our defence?" 19 year old Carl
Jenkinson, Arsenal's new defensive signing this summer from Charlton Athletic, scored a wonderful
own goal today in a pre-season match against ... Continue reading →

With the start of the new Premier League season imminent, we take a look at some of the comings
and goings in the transfer window, and at which teams will be contesting for the title, as well as
those contesting the relegation places.

After rejecting a £100,000 offer for 25 year old goalkeeper, Rob Elliot, Charlton Athletic are now
putting in a formal protest over Alan Pardew's indiscreet behaviour during the attempted swoop. The
South Londoners, who immediately rejected Newcastle United's formal bid on Wednesday, are
protesting as they claim that officials at Newcastle United had promised that [.

Well hello there, blog. It's been a while. I'll be honest, with the end of the season and the
well publicized (bitched and moaned about on Twitter) publishing problems we've had at the Offside,
getting the motivation to write and then sit there for an hour and baby the post until it was
finally up was difficult to say the least.

With a transfer window feel 1. What was unusual about Newcastle United target Neil Taylor's last
game for Swansea City? 2. What nationality is Arsenal target Gervinho? 3. From which club did
Newcastle sign Sylvain Marveaux? 4. What is the name of the young defender signed by Arsenal from
Charlton Athletic?
After signing Carl Jenkinson from Charlton Athletic and Gervinho from Lille, Arsenal manager Arsene
Wenger could decide to kick-off the new season with the players he currently has at his disposal.
Speaking to Arsenal Player on ...
Liverpool youngster Jonjo Shelvey says he is glad to see new arrivals join the club and is not
worried about competition for places.
The former Charlton Athletic player made 21 appearances last season as new manager Kenny Dalglish
gave younger players more time on the pitch.
But the Scot has since signed midfielders Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing as he
aims to take Liverpool back into the top four.
With the division in general overviewed by Ian yesterday, it's time for the second of
three of the official twohundredpercent Football League pre-season previews. For those that haven't
seen League Two's preview, we've gone about them slightly differently this season. With the
transfer window affecting some managers psychologically to the point that they build their team by
the end of the transfer window, rather than the start of the season, predicting how it all ends up
before teams have finalised their squads is tricky.
Of all the places in England, Canary Wharf is perhaps the last one you might expect Sam Allardyce,
"Big Sam" himself, to have made his home, three months shy of his 57th birthday. He loves it there
especially, he says, his apartment, where a straight-talking Black Country lad who made his name in
Lancashire lives next door to investment bankers.
It's quite a while now since Charlton were in the Premiership and we're now writing a third
division diary in the hope of a return to the Championship: Diary

Harry Redknapp expects Beckham to introduce some class to this Spurs side
David Beckham is set to return to the Premiership after almost seven years. A short term loan
move to Spurs is in the works. From the looks of it Harry Redknapp expects him to suit up to play
in the FA Cup tie against Charlton Athletic as soon as next weekend.
As we approach the halfway point in the League One season, more or less nothing has yet been
decided and with each passing week more questions are being asked of which more or less none are
being definitively answered. No matter which we way we choose to interpret this league table, it
makes for extraordinary reading.

decided and with each passing week more questions are being asked of which more or less none are
being definitively answered. No matter which we way we choose to interpret this league table, it
makes for extraordinary reading.
And now for something completely different. At third (and, later fourth) round stage the FA Cup
hardly constitutes fixture congestion, so the question of where it stands in our list of priorities
can probably be deferred to another day.
Bingo cards out then, as we look to cross off the names of various squad members last season
posing merrily in the club photocall back in August.
Taking one's time over a post can have its downsides. Having begun piecing together an assessment
of Charlton Athletic's situation following the announcement on 31 December that a long-awaited
takeover had finally been completed, I didn't expect quite yet to have to rip up (figuratively, of
course) and start again.
By IAN HOLLIDAY
Every January, as the third round of the FA Cup begins in England, the question is never whether
there will be upsets, but rather how big they'll be. Saturday's was one of the biggest in recent
memory.
Tiny Stevenage, which only became part of the Football League this season, and currently sits
15th in the League Two table, not only out-shot and out-possessed its Premier League opponents, it
out-played them.
That was just about as straightforward as could have been hoped, just about every box ticked by
3.30pm. Key personnel rested; squad members got 90 minutes; home-grown youngster made Danny
Rose-esque impact on debut (fingers crossed the next few months are a bit brighter for him than for
the boy Rose); clean sheet; no injuries; no suspensions; opportunity for Defoe to return to
sharpness; etc.
We have mentioned the madness surrounding the current employment of football managers on this
site before in recent weeks, but today there was a rare outbreak of common sense as Bournemouth's
Eddie Howe decided, after much speculation and tribulation, to stay with the club that gave him his
chance in management and turn down the overtures of Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic.
Liverpool starlet Nathan Eccleston is set to join Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the
season.
The 20-year-old striker is down in London to finalize the deal and trained with the Charlton
first-team on Wednesday morning.
Eccleston is expected to be available for the Addicks' trip to Sheffield Wednesday as the League
One side look to mount a promotion push in the second half of the season.
The January transfer window has received one of its biggest shocks in recent times as Sunderland
striker Darren Bent has handed in a written transfer request in order to sanction an £18million
move to Aston Villa.
If this had been mooted last summer it wouldn't have seemed that much of a shock.

Sam Bartram - Charlton Athletic goalkeeper who is still regarded by many as the best keeper
never to play for England. He made almost 600 starts for the Addicks from 1934-56.
One of the more interesting facets of the South Wales derby is that neither Cardiff City or
Swansea have ever managed to "do a league double" over the other side. Craig Bellamy's
wonder-strike on Sunday afternoon ensured that Cardiff City not only left the Liberty Stadium with
all three points, but also left without the inigmany of being the first side to lose two league
games against their bitter rivals in the same season (Swansea won the derby fixture at Cardiff last
November)
I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the other fixtures that haven't produced a
league double for either side and the results were (in my opinion) very surprising.
Skysports.com understands that Nathan Eccleston's impressive form on loan at Charlton Athletic has
attracted interest from Everton and Hull City.
The Liverpool youngster is currently on loan with the League One high-flyers for the remainder of
the season.
The 20-year-old has been in fine form for Chris Powell's side having followed up his Man of the
Match display against Peterborough with a goal against Hartlepool.
Some Loaner tidbits for you before we begin this Report: Neil Etheridge's loan
at Charlton Athletic was cancelled today after he was an unused sub in the second game since
arriving; and Courtney Harris' month-loan at Bromley FC ended on Friday.
Kagisho Dikgacoi started, played 90 minutes, and received a yellow card in
Crystal Palace's 2-1 loss at Queens Park Rangers.

So near, yet so far. Brighton & Hove Albion travel to North-East London to play Dagenham &
Redbridge in a league match for the first time this evening with the scent of promotion heavy in
the air. That Gus Poyet's team has been the stand-out team in League One this season is inarguable,
but in recent weeks they have started to give the impression of being a team that is starting, just
starting, to run on empty.
