Newcastle United today announced the appointment of former West Ham, Charlton and Southampton
manager Alan Pardew.
A quick glance at the Wimbledon-born gaffer's history shows nothing of particular credit or
legacy worthy. Although he guided West Ham to the FA Cup Final where they lost to Liverpool, he did
win the Saint Johnstone Paint trophy whilst in his tenure with Southampton.

One thing us Spurs fans have had over the past two decades is the knowledge we can improve and
improve immensely. Whether we could actually do it, is another matter. Looking back we've had
players that were nowhere near the calibre we came to expect at White Hart Lane in the glory years

Carbrini Sportswear is to athletic kit what Dixy Fried Chicken is to fast food: available only in
the discount stores of inner city, working class suburbs like Harpurhey or Woolwich, conjuring up
images of Sunday morning high roads buffeted by gales and greasy cartons. That the firm has
manufactured uniforms and sponsored a bevy of lower league clubs is therefore telling; but it's

I hate to sound like a broken record, but a consistent theme I've stressed in the Statshack
series is the need to look at match statistics as a whole and to be suspicious of anyone attempting
to leverage a point with the use of a single metric. Passing for example.

Liverpool are back on track after another great win at Anfield. Performances are definitely
improving overall but how is Roy Hodgson doing in the league compared to Rafa Benitez's first 16
games in 2004-5? Also, how do this season's results compare to results in the same games last
season?

In an absolutely crazy decision, Mike Ashley is getting set to name Alan Pardew as Newcaslte's
new manager, replacing Chris Hughton who he sacked on Monday.
Pardew is nothing more than a recycled old manager that neither the players or fans want. In a
recent online survey by the Evening Chronicle in Newcastle Pardew only received 14 votes out of
more than 1,000 responses asking Newcastle fans who they wanted as the new manager.

Newcastle Manager this Morning.
Mike Ashley's decision to sack Chris Hughton because he was too in experienced will come under
scrutiny, while his appointment of Alan Pardew won't help Matters.

Boro 0-1 Northampton (Gilligan 14)

In the past week the Premier League has witnessed two managerial sackings. Chris Hughton's
widely publicised and criticised dismissal was quickly followed by the departure of Sam Allardyce
this Monday.
Both were sacked with brutal public statements.
Blackburn Rovers' official website went with the line ‘We have taken this decision as part of
our wider plans and ambitions for the club'; while Newcastle United preferred a critical approach:
‘Regrettably the board now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to
take the club forward.
Who: Patrick Berger When: 2004–05 season
Where: The Valley What: A goal better than Thierry Henry's
wonder-strike against Manchester United
Patrick Berger's goal against Charlton is perhaps overshadowed by the Arsenal legend.
