One day Patrice Evra will write a book. He has an inspirational story to tell by a footballer who
offers a rare insight into life at Old Trafford under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson. Evra is

All football fans, across the planet, love a player in their team who does nothing but terrorise
the opposition, literally bully the life out them.
Harass the opponent, chase him down, force a mistake... and if all else fails, smash him to the
ground.
In 18-year-old Frimpong, we have a cast iron certainty of a future fans favourite, the kid is
100% assured to be the dominant midfielder in our team for years to come.

Ali Russell Wanted Back in Scotland?
As if scripted, when West Ham was looking for a leader to haul them back into Premiership survival,
Scott Parker duly obliged. In every sense, Parker was the the only West Ham player you would not
wished to suffer the agony of relegation. So immense were his heart and commitment to stave off
relegation.

Nice idea I saw via the England Team wesbite, run by the charity Keep Your On The Ball, who
raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer.
The odea is that age old one you have to pick your all time England XI. But there are a couple
of caveats. First off it has to be someone who represented England at the World Cup (seemingly
since 1966, so erm not really All Time then), and second if you want to win Gordon Banks shirt, you
have to pick the same starting XI as Terry Venables, who has picked a special secret XI (revealing
only Banks in goal).
Way back in August I posted a Preview to the Championship (The English 2nd tier) in which I
attempted to predict which teams would be promoted or relegated. Languagecaster readers should pat
themselves on the back as they tipped Newcastle, West Brom and Cardiff to make it but how well did
I do?
Mike Grella, Leeds United
Grella came on for the final six minutes but Charlton got a tricky goal late, winning 1-0
against Leeds. Leeds now needs a win next week to clinch automatic promotion.
The Rest
A choice for Anfield Boss Rafa Benitez to consider during his summer holidays.
Win the Club Shirt Of Your Choice Simply by Speaking Your Mind!
Liverpool and Aston Villa have joined the race for Carlton Cole after it emerged last
night that West Ham rejected a £10million bid for the striker.
Rafa Benitez says the upcoming World Cup finals is hampering his attempts to land his summer
transfer targets.
Despite ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Italy, the Liverpool boss has insisted his
future is at Anfield and is pressing on with plans to strengthen his squad.
Benitez has already snapped up teenage midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Charlton for £1.
I no longer believe anything I read in the media. I think they are scavengers desperate for news
to fill their ever expanding empires of greed. I'm also eternally optimistic and, despite the
evidence to the contrary, have been hoping that Roy would eventually turn down Liverpool (and/or
England) and commit himself to Fulham.
And so we start another season in League One on Saturday. Of course it's not where any of us
want to be, but strangely it seems there is a lot more optimism around the 2010/11 season than
there was last year.
The loss of Bailey, Burton, Richardson and Sam from the starting XI is of course a blow and
combined with the departures of Shelvey, Mooney and Randolph leaves our squad desperately
threadbare.
A resumed 9-5 schedule means these entries are going to be clipped for the next while, but I feel I
need to say a few things about Martin O'Neill. Checking the Twittersphere yesterday and it was
apparent there were mixed feelings over his leaving the club, presumably over the usual crap. I
don't want to wade into that discussion.
It's not that the game's bother me, because they don't. It's the fact that the man of the
match is refereed to as the MVP (Most valuable player)...
Here is the 2008 MLS All-Star final, West ham lost 3-2. Shame. Now I don't want to be that
British guy who picks out all the faults with MLS, actually that's a lie.
Liverpool new boy Paul Konchesky has revealed that he felt that the chance to move to Anfield from
Fulham was too good to turn down.
The left-back signed a four-year deal for the Reds on transfer deadline day, moving for a reported
£4 million from Craven Cottage.
Now he is targeting trophies as he looks forward to linking up with his former gaffer once again.
Liverpool starlet Jonjo Shelvey has revealed it was a "great honour" to play at Anfield for the
first time in Jamie Carragher's testimonial.
Shelvey, 18, featured as the club celebrated the career of its veteran defender last weekend. While
Carragher can boast a 20-year affiliation with the Reds, the ex-Charlton Athletic man is only just
starting to make his mark since arriving this summer.
"He called me a 'f****** ****' - it was appalling, especially with my grandson sitting next to me,"
Mrs Cox said. "It's terrible to hear such bad language. We sit there, in the family enclosure, so
Luke doesn't have to hear it, but it's even worse because you hear all the players.
Bowyer has gained notoriety for his involvement in a number of unsavoury incidents over the years,
having failed a drugs test for cannabis at Charlton, appeared in court after being charged with
assault - though he was cleared of the charges - during his time with Leeds and fighting with then
Newcastle team-mate Kieron Dyer on the pitch in 2005.
Legend: it's a word thrown round all too readily it appears these days. Scrolling down my news
feed on Facebook last week, I found one friend bestowing legendary status on Javier Hernandez
following his late winner for Manchester United away at Valencia. I'm sure he was caught up in the
moment, or at least I hope so, and I imagine in the cold light of day, he wouldn't be quite so keen
to put Hernandez up with the ‘Kings of the Stretford End' such as Cantona, Law and Charlton just
yet although, considering the fact that the guy probably couldn't find Old Trafford with a sat nav
and more than likely believes that football was invented in 1993, nothing would surprise me.

Ten years ago, Cardiff (and England) striker Jay Bothroyd was told by Arsenal's
head of youth development Liam Brady that he would never play for the club again
after the tempestuous teenager threw his shirt at coach Don Howe after being
substituted during an Under-19 match.

Newcastle United today announced the appointment of former West Ham, Charlton and Southampton
manager Alan Pardew.
A quick glance at the Wimbledon-born gaffer's history shows nothing of particular credit or
legacy worthy. Although he guided West Ham to the FA Cup Final where they lost to Liverpool, he did
win the Saint Johnstone Paint trophy whilst in his tenure with Southampton.

Firing Blanks
To say that this season has been a hard slog for many of the new faces to the Premier League
would be like saying that Ireland found itself slightly unprepared for the freezing weather in
2010. Whilst many of the big money signings have struggled for form and fitness, those sneaking up
from the old second division are still adapting to their new surroundings.
Please read the title all-Britishy, rhyme "again" with "pain".Yep, Wycombe forward Jon-Paul Pittman
has connected for his team-best sixth league goal of the campaign. It momentarily pulled the hosts
level with Charlton, but as often happens, Wanderers conceded to drop the points.I will find a clip
for this one, but League One stuff usually takes time.
I've recently been re-reading The Glory Game by Hunter Davies. For those not in the know, it's a
warts and all account of Tottenham's 1971/72 season, in which Davies was given unprecedented access
behind the scenes at White Hart Lane.
Amidst the positive reviews on the back cover, is the fact that the book was voted at number 14
in The Observer's Top 50 Sports Book Of All Time and at number 11 in FourFourTwo's 50 Best Football
Books Ever.
Many fans were more than impressed by former player Darren Ambrose on Wednesday night. Darren
Ambrose could be a savvy signing for Newcastle Darren was signed by Bobby Robosn for Newcastle,
from his old club Ipswich Town, in 2003 and was sold by Graeme Souness to Charlton a couple of
years later.

It's been a while. Again. A few months ago Marceltipool looked no more. Several aborted attempts
to rejuvenate the interest in training had seemingly knocked the final nails in the coffin and the
ideal of a football club for the Olympique de Marseille, Celtic and Liverpool-friendly in London
appeared to have simply returned to my imagination.
I doubt Iain Dowie was the first name on Hull fans' lips when former manager Phil Brown departed
earlier this week.
The former Oldham, Crystal Palace and Charlton boss is not exactly the inspirational appointment
they hoped for, or indeed expected, when chairman Adam Pearson promised not to "leave any stone
unturned" in his search for a new boss.
Much has been written on these pages about the struggles of Championship basement boys like
Peterborough, Plymouth and Crystal Palace, but what about those vying to replace them in English
football's second tier? With eight games to go in League One, Norwich look as good as promoted.
They have an eleven-point cushion on the teams below them and have won five of their last six, the
only blemish
Here is the current League One table:
With four games to go, it's Norwich's to lose. A couple of months ago, it was Leeds' to lose,
which they seemed to have done spectacularly. But they've enjoyed a resurgence of late, winning
their last three matches and pushing them back into the promotion places.
To get you in the mood...

catatrophists).
Liverpool are ready to snap up Charlton superkid Jonjo Shelvey in a £2 million-plus move.
The Anfield club hope to tie up a quick deal for the attacking midfielder who has made almost 50
first team appearances for the Valiants, despite being just 18.
Shelvey has been linked with Chelsea and Arsenal since making his big breakthrough and also
emerging through the international youth ranks.
Jonjo Shelvey could be on his way to Liverpool in the summer after interest in the Charlton
youngster from Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs sparked a bidding war.
The Anfield side looks to be leading the chase for Shelvey - who, at 18, is one of England's
top-rated young players.
Believed to be valued at around £3 million already, Shelvey has made more than 40 appearances for
the Addicks since his debut just two months after his 16th birthday.
Contingent on tomorrow's medical and negotiations, we've seen Liverpool sign two highly-rated
English teenage midfielders within the last two months: Raheem Sterling and now Jonjo Shelvey. Not
only was I told Liverpool were a sinking ship without money, but I thought Benitez never bought
British. And yes, I'm aware I'm basking in the arrival of two youngsters whose combined fee is less
than £3m, but any silver lining during a monsoon.
