.With less than a year to go before the 2010 World cup is dictating diaries and breaking up
marriages, everyone is desperate to get their hands on a ticket to South Africa. So what better way
to kick off a nostalgic look back at the Premier League's past then to look at some of the [...]
Harry should make Charlton an offer they can't refuse!
17 year old Jonjo Shelvey may well have signed a new deal at Charlton but If I were Harry
Redknapp I would work out a deal that suits all parties to secure the future of the hugely
impressive teenager.
In much the same way that the Tottenham boss purchased Kyle Walker from Sheffield United and
then loaned him straight back to Bramall Lane, Redknapp should attempt to orchestrate a similar
deal for the Addicks man.
As Chelsea face a long transfer ban for being naughty when buying young players, and other top
clubs prepare to endure similar sanctions, let's look back 10 years to a simpler time.
Jermain Defoe decided to leave Charlton to sign for West Ham aged 16... because West Ham
promised to buy his mum a fridge!
All the stuff being covered outside the unfriendly confines of the award winning Dirty

Is Maradona untouchable as Argentina's manager? [Reuters Blog]
How West Ham persuaded Jermain Defoe to leave Charlton. [The Spoiler]
Sir Alex says everyone is jealous of United.
My selections for last week almost made me a little money, but with accumulators almost is not
enough. Liverpool to beat Burnley, West Brom beat Plymouth and Sunderland beat Hull, but Charlton
(who had a 100% record up until this match) could only manage a draw at home against Southampton.
It wasn't a result anyone [.
Last night we saw the Arsenal past and Arsenal future, with a good stark warning for all of our
youth players who think that they are bigger than the club...
Jerome Thomas of West Bromich Albion began his Arsenal career having joined the Arsenal from his
schoolboy appointment at Luton Town Football Club in 2001.
"The Year is 1989 and i am 12 All the big clubs in England want to sign me and a scrap for my
signature begins" Well...a boy can dream. I was lucky enough to meet the whole United team at their
hotel in Selsdon, Croydon when they played against Charlton at Selhurst Park. How my parents swung

I settled down yesterday afternoon ready for one of those great footballing days that come along
every now and again. I had the prospect of 4 matches in a row to keep me entertained (including
Charlton v Brentford!) and to see if Scotland could get a win against Macedonia. It was an
opportunity to run the rule over a few players who have returned to regular football in the
Premiership and see just what Scotland could do.
As many will be aware, some people believe that an independent Trust should be set-up to deal with
the uncertainty that surrounds Charlton's finances and long-term ownership. Personally I remain on
the fence about the pros and cons. But the idea seems to have got a shot in the arm today, with the
announcement that a mystery Charlton shareholder has 'donated' 524,894 shares.
A potentially significant moment in Charlton's history took place on Tuesday night - I nearly
missed it, eyelids drooping due to jetlag (thanks to Stuart for holding the fort while I swanned
around the US and Canada), but it definitely happened. The Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust has
been given fans' backing.
Whether it is player rotation, Steven Gerrard's best position or how much was spent on transfers,
there has always been press criticism of Rafa Benitez's decisions. And with Liverpool conceding a
number of goals from set-pieces this season, the tiresome 'zonal marking' myth has been resurrected
yet again.

In X-Factor terminology, the long-running Charlton potential takeover saga has been on
‘an amazing journey' all summer. What at first prompted fervoured supporter interest, careered at
one stage into hilarity at the range of nationalities linked, before finally slumping into chronic
indifference at the lack of resolution.
This week I'm bringing you a few gems...
Portsmouth vs Everton: I'm going with a big win for everton, with a cheeky 3-0 win at 21/1 on
Betfair.
Tottenham vs Burnley: Gotta be Spurs with the same scoreline at 9.
