Arsene Wenger is keen to bring Barnsley keeper Heinz Muller to Arsenal. The cost? A very Arsene
Wenger-like £1m. This move would also pave the way for Teutonic gaffe-lord Jens Lehmann to move
back to Borussia Dortmund. (Various) ...And there is "no chance" of a Cesc Fabregas move to Real
Madrid according to Cesc's agent.
A quick check of the league table this morning confirmed my initial thoughts - Charlton didn't get
relegated on Tuesday night. It felt like it though, with doom & gloomers emerging from all
directions. Reality is now starting to fully kick in for all to see that this season will not be
the stroll in the [...]
'One minute we were talking about a testimonial and the next
we weren't talking at all. I found that disheartening,' he said.
'I was told
the contract offered while Stuart Pearce was manager was no longer on the table
and I would have to basically go on trial for the new manager. I found that a
bit of an insult, given that I played more than 30 games last season.
Think Dailly is wishing him a happy birthday?
Paul Konchesky became new Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez's fifth signing of the summer after he
penned a four-year contract and ended his anguish at West Ham.
Konchesky's future at Upton Park looked uncertain when his former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley
arrived last season and he made just four appearances after Alan Pardew's exit in December.
Sunderland have signed Michael Chopra from Cardiff City on a four-year deal.
The former Newcastle striker joins the newly promoted Mackems for a fee believed to around £5
million, after scoring 22 league goals for Cardiff last season.
He becomes Roy Keane's third signing for Sunderland in the close-season, following the capture
of defensive duo Russell Anderson from Aberdeen and Greg Halford from Reading.
- Failure to qualify for the 2008 European Championship could cost the England Football Association
as much as £8m in merchandising and revenue. Am I supposed to feel sorry for the good old boys
network who hire crap coaches? Never fear England fans, I will be shocked if they don't pull out a
spectacular performance against Croatia and Israel somehow rise to the occasion and at least draw
with Russia.
Charlton signed striker Svetoslav Todorov from Portsmouth
and goalkeeper Nicky Weaver from Manchester City on free transfers on Wednesday.
Weaver, 28, signed a three-year deal after 10 years at City - during which
he made more than 200 appearances....."Nicky hasn't had the breaks in his career
that he has deserved, but this is a great opportunity for him while Svetoslav's
quality and precision, which is proven in this division, will be very important
to us, especially in home games.
One of the things I like about blogs is the different perspective they can give by focusing on a
narrow subject. I can get news on player moves and game results from the news. I don't need blogs
for that. But what I don't get from those traditional sources is the perspective one gets on those
moves by someone who follows every little move, every reserve game that a team has.
Arsenal's young right-back Justin Hoyte is reportedly being targeted for a loan move by both
Everton and Charlton. However, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has already firmly stated that the
right-back will not go out on loan this season.
Everton, who have a strong defensive lineup already, would want the 22 year-old to replace Joseph
Yobo who will miss parts of January and February due to the African Cup of Nations.
There were buckets of goals in the Championship this past weekend. Three matches had 3-0 scorelines
(Plymouth beat Norwich, Charlton beat Cardiff, Hull beat Preston), West Brom thumped 10-man
Coventry 4-0, Sheffield Wednesday lit up Southampton for five goals and Ipswich embarrassed Bristol
City by a 6-0 scoreline.
For Coventry, striker Michael Mifsud was sent off after only 10 minutes for a nasty and flagrant
elbow on defender Carl Hoefkens, but it took the Baggies until the 56th minute to capitalize on
their advantage.
The Times recently published "the Top 50 stats of 2007″ compiled by their resident statto
brainbox Bill Edgar - and the number one footballing statistic was how similar Lee Bowyer and Scott
Parker are. Edgar writes: "Both are London-born midfield players who have gained only brief
recognition by England; both began their careers [.
With eight games to go until three teams are condemned to playing football in the Championship next
season, one man has been a shining light in West Ham's disastrous Premiership campaign.
Carlos Tevez, the South-American flamboyant playmaker has managed to silence his critics by putting
in several performances of the highest order in recent weeks.
Wigan's Marcus Bent has announced that he is perfectly happy there and that he wants the loan deal
from Charlton to be turned into a permanent one. Bent said: "I have come to Wigan to play in the
Premier League, try to score goals, and do well for the club and myself, it's [...]
