Norwich has made an enquiry for Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. The England U21 international has shown glimpses of his potential at Anfield since joining from Charlton for £1.7m in 2010 but has failed to command a regular starting berth. Shelvey only started 18 matches last season, and just nine in the Premier League, making a further 15 substitute appearances as he scored five goals.
It's official: next season the league known to most people outside the UK as the English Premier League will be one-tenth Welsh. Cardiff City last night confirmed their promotion to the top-flight with a 0-0 draw against Charlton. That ensured that they will go up against south Wales rivals Swansea next season.

Birmingham City manager Lee Clark has declared that he has no intention of selling goalkeeper Jack
Butland to Liverpool or any other club.
Liverpool have been linked with a £7.5 million move for the 19-year-old, who became England's
youngest-ever goalkeeper when he made his debut against Italy in Berne on Wednesday.
The January transfer deadline is less than a week away now and message boards everywhere are heralding a cry for more experience to be added to Championship squads. The judicious addition of a central defender with a Premier League background or a proven striker could be enough to convert pretenders into serious challengers.
The serious lack of imagination shown by Football League chairmen continues to fuel the managerial carousel. Almost three years ago, we were bemused by Paul Hart's arrival at Crystal Palace while the likes of Alan Irvine, Brian Laws and Darren Ferguson played musical chairs. Two and a half years on and it's Dougie Freedman, Mick McCarthy and Dave Jones making sideways moves, as well as Laws again.

Sir Bobby Charlton has yet again reiterated his opinion that Jose Mourinho doesn't have the right character to be manager of Manchester United.
"A United manager wouldn't do that," Charlton said, referring to Mourinho gouging Tito Vilanova's eye, then Barcelona's assistant coach, in the 2011 Spanish Super Cup.
I remember quite vividly Alex Song's debut for Arsenal. We were coasting through the final minutes
of a relatively routine home win over Everton in the autumn of 2005 when Arsene decided to
introduce the slightly mysterious loan signing we had made that summer. Song ambled around the
pitch for a few minutes, and repeatedly gave away the ball.
Emmanuel Frimpong joined Arsenal when he was nine years old, at around the same time as Jack Wilshere, but his progress into the first team for the Gunners has not been as easy as Wilshere's. Arsene Wenger rates the 20-year old very highly, though, and believes he will star for us in the future.
Wenger and Frimpong decided that he needs to play regularly, that is why the midfielder has gone on loan to Championship side Charlton until the end of the year.
The Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has only recently returned from injury and Arsene Wenger thinks that he now needs some regular first team football to get himself back into shape. With the midfielders currently at Arsenal's disposal, Frimpong is unlikely to get much playing time at the moment so Wenger has arranged for the Ghana international to go on loan to Charlton until January.
Today it was announced that Emmanuel Frimpong will be joining the Championship side Charlton Athletic. Frimpong has been in and around the Arsenal first team squad for a few years now, with injures hampering his progress at the club.
I am sure I was not the only Arsenal fan to be disappointed when it was reported that Emmanuel Frimpong was going to give up on his Arsenal career and move on to get regular playing time. The story was quickly disproved and it was revealed that the combative midfielder was just looking for a loan deal to gain experience and get match fit.
Jenkinson's dream by AH Carl Jenkinson, is currently filling in as Arsenal's Number one right-back as Bacary Sagna continues his recovery from his second leg break in a year. Jenkinson is a known Arsenal fan and he has mentioned many times before how he and his family couldn't believe it when he signed a contract [.
Morning all, welcome to a brand new week and one that will kick off with another high profile
departure.
Alex Song will become a Barcelona player today and Arsenal will receive somewhere in the region
of £15m + add-ons for him. For some it's a sign that we're content time and time again to sell our
best players, for others it's a good deal for a player whose reputation outweighs his talent.
On the front page of ESPN.com around 12:30, the lead story was Arsenal draw with Sunderland. Small
problem. The World Wide Leader in sports put a picture of the Championship game between Charlton
and Birmingham with the story. How can u get this wrong especially since they have been promoting
the season starting so much.
Continuing our look at the team for the upcoming season, it's the turn of the full backs.
First choice on the right should be none other than Bacary Sagna. The French defender took to
English football like a duck to water, ever since he joined us and has gone from strength to
strength.

[P]oliticians like to talk about the squeezed middle - a concept that focus groups tell them plays well to a hard-working and hard-pressed often middle class demographic who have done nothing wrong financially but find the costs of living creeping ever further up so, through no fault of their own, fall towards the poverty line.
The 39th step in our Great Teams seriessees the archive approach its third anniversary - and we are delighted to welcome Al Gordon, purveyor of the eclectic God, Charlton and Punk Rock website to TTU Towers; Al having become a regular at The Football Attic in recent months. I think I've seen the next great football manager. He didn't stop moving, gesticulating or
encouraging from the first whistle to the last. He had a strange semi-crouch, as if he was watching
just the legs and the feet and ... Continue reading →
First thing this morning I went scouring the Spanish football dailies to see what I could find
the latest on Santi Cazorla. More than one headline this morning suggests it's D-Day, what with
Malaga having to pay their bills or face expulsion from La Liga, but while it's not impossible
something could happen today, I wouldn't hold my breath.
