Jason Culina wanted to win this and played like it. In the first half GC played one touch football in possession, 65%, and closed everything down from the Jets.
Newcastle's keeper copped a foot in the face from Shane Smeltz to break his nose and battled on till half time dripping blood.
Both goals in the first half, Culina straight in low and had from the left and James Brown got his first from a 1, 2 from Culina and a great finish.

This was the most important week of the A-League.
And Gold Coast are running hot, signing Charlie Miller and maybe even Adam Griffiths as the season gets serious and now they beat Sydney in Sydney 1-0.
Sydney have lost Kofi Danning, Mark Bridge may be slower than John Aloisi, reserves in Brendan Gan, Chris Payne and Rhyan Grant have given the team nothing extra, though Payne may come good yet.

This is so far:Robbie Fowler 2nd with over $500 even though he didn't even wear it!
Adriano Pellegrino has $415 way ahead of some much higher paid players. Some surprisingly low bids for some shirts and some surprises.
Gold Coast looks very cheap (even for their shirts)If Charlie Miller had stayed Roar he would be attracting more than $120.

Gold Coast fluffed their lines. Dominated but couldn't win. Couldn't beat Kennedy.
Only 4,000 turned up for the game - lowest finals crowd by a mile. And low even for Gold Coast. Highlights that Brisbane people have lost interest in the game (at least for this year).
Only Ben Kennedy in goals for Newcastle and Charlie Miller for the team with no fans played with class.

For 88 minutes Gold Coast can showed how dull short passing possession football can be. Especially when so many runs end in a poor pass or shot from way too far out. Then right back John Curtis worked some individual magic on his own for a cracking goal to save the game.
Newcastle found it too easy to sit back and defend for all but around 15 minutes in the middle of the second half.
