I came across an article on MLSSoccer.com earlier this morning and really thought it was worth
discussing. The article is about former MLSers and other Americans/Canadians abroad that should
return home to play in MLS. I can't say I disagree with many on this list and I have a couple more
that probably just need to suck it up and return home so they can actually see some playing time on
the field.
Union
Diego Gutierrez has joined the Union's technical staff as the Head of Scouting and Player
Development. "Knowing the foundation already laid, the fans, the philosophy of the club and the
vision for the future, it's a true delight for me to become part of the Union's technical staff,"
Gutierrez said in a Union press release.
We know.... we know....
Certainly it wasn't expected that Charlie Davies get some PT today for FC Sochaux, but by throwing
the rehabbed USMNTer in the 18, American soccer fans got their collective hearts up, hoping that
the kid would see some first-team minutes. The first since his horrific car accident back in
October of 2009.
Never before has riding the bench meant so much.
Charlie Davies made Sochaux's 18-man roster for their game with Bordeaux today. He didn't play, and
the two sides drew 1-1, but the American striker's presence alone made it a monumental day in his
comeback from injuries suffered in a deadly auto accident last October.
Union
On the Faryd Mondragon Watch front, the FC Köln keeper reportedly coming to the Union had a
tough one this weekend, giving up a hat trick to Schalke's Raul Gonzalez in a 3–0 loss in his
last game for Köln.
Deutsche Welle put Mondragon in goal for their worst Bundesliga 11 of 2010: "Many players pitch
a hissy fit if they get benched, but ex-Cologne keeper Faryd Mondragon took his tantrum to a
previously unknown biblical level.
Did you miss me last week? You didn't even realize I was gone? That's cold broseph. Well
regardless, I'm here with your December update. Even without the full weekend slate of EPL
action, there were quite a few fixtures for me to give you the run down on. Check out what went
down and look forward to my 2010 recap coming soon!
