been, a full, traditional system of on-field-merit-based promotion and relegation in any American
pro soccer endeavor that I'm aware of[1].
With that said, the essence of promotion and relegation, the ability to move between

The Chicago Fire concluded Phase 2 of their preseason with split squad games today. A primarily
first team lineup fell to the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 thanks to goals from Steven Lenhart and Brad
Ring. The second team defeated the Ventura County Fusion 2-1 on the backs of a penalty kick goal
from Orr Barouch and a Pari Pantazopoulos header Barouch assisted on.

It might seem odd for two Philly guys to be happy about playing for a soccer team in Charleston,
S.C., but if there's anything Ryan Richter and Tony Donatelli should keep in mind, it's recent
history.
Richter, a LaSalle alum who played for Philadelphia Union last season, and Donatelli, a Temple
grad who moves from minor league Rochester, both signed with the Charleston Battery of the USL last
week.

changes. For lower-division teams, the most significant is the random selection process for
determining home teams from the first round through the quarterfinals.
In previous years, all teams pursued this opportunity through a bidding process.

goal in the match against the Chicago Fire.
Sorry I was gone all weekend. It was quite busy for me with midterms bearing down on me along
with a Carling Cup final for Liverpool. But onto the important things.
United Started off the match under pressure. Dejan Jakovic brought down Patrick Nyarko in the
box for a penalty in the 5′.
DC United could find itself without goalkeeper Bill Hamid quite a bit in 2012 as the U.S.

Just a few notes...
* Didn't show it in the last game, but DeLeon has serious wheels. Had one decent run with
the ball, but looked blistering on a couple runs without.
* Not so impressed with Rozeboom this time around. Big effort, but looked more hurried in
his efforts and certainly more wasteful with the ball.

spending the season with the Charleston Battery of the USL-Pro.

Toronto FC manager Aron Winter believes his club will make the playoffs. Really.
"We're making the playoffs," he firmly told reporters after Tuesday's training session.
Winter's proclamation comes after Toronto FC have fallen to 0-6-0, are a loss away from matching
the worst start in league history and have a bout at Rio Tinto Stadium with Real Salt Lake on the

Not even games on back-to-back days are enough to ruin the run of good form the Rochester Rhinos
