How not to win over the Liverpool faithful The chances of Charles Itandje ever amounting to more at
Anfield than being Liverpool's reserve keeper always seemed pretty slim, but they just got a whole
lot slimmer. As this GIF shows, television cameras spotted the 26-year-old larking around and
generally being disrespectful during Wednesday's memorial service marking [.
Charles Itandje's Liverpool career could be in jeopardy following allegations that he behaved
inappropriately at Wednesday's Hillsborough memorial service.
Television footage of the event appeared to show the out of favour keeper fooling around during the
ceremony and senior officials at Liverpool are already looking into the incident with a view to
taking disciplinary action against him.
There are many things one may hope never to encounter in their short lifetime here on Earth. One
of those things is being mauled by a black bear. Another one of those things is having a Bulgarian
mob boss come after you.
Ohhh, looks like a loss for Liverpool reserve keeper Nikolay Mihailov on the latter.
This grinning idiot is Steven Cohen. Many football fans in the States will be aware of his
work as the co-host of the World Soccer Daily radio show. Cohen is a naturalised American, but he
was born in London and is a passionate Chelsea fan. I have heard him referred to as America's
"Voice of Soccer".
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly set for a summer clear-out, with 11 players expected
to leave Anfield.
The News of the World claims that the Spaniard is ready to sell a whole host of players including
Ryan Babel, Albert Riera and Xabi Alonso, in order to raise funds.
The tabloid claims that Benitez needs the finances in order to finally sign Gareth Barry from Aston
Villa and to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in the transfer market.
A few days ago, I conducted a poll on this site asking whether Steven Gerrard should retain the
captaincy if he was found guilty of affray. Now that Gerrard has been cleared, the disappointing
results of the poll can be revealed
1500 site visitors voted in the poll over a 2 day period. Rather worryingly, 70% of voters said
Gerrard should keep the captaincy even if he was convicted.
Charles Itandje has been given a 14 day ban by Liverpool FC for his behaviour during the 20th
anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy. The reserve keeper was shown swaying around and nudging
the person next to him whilst smiling.
Itandje has recently issued an apology to the Liverpool Echo:
"First of all, if my behaviour has caused offence to anyone then I can only apologise.
If Liverpool are to improve on their runners-up spot in the Premier League, they will need to sign
at least one player of proven quality this summer.
Valencia's David Silva could be a player that makes a big difference for The Reds, if they were to
splash out on the 23-year-old.
The Spain international is able to play anywhere in attack, which means that Rafa Benitez could
slot him into either the wide right, wide left, or the second striker position.

Sebastian Leto is set for Anfield departure after reports in the Greek media has mentioned
Liverpool have accepted a bid from Panathinaikos.
According to the reports, the Greek club has bid in the region of £3million for the Argentinian
midfielder.
Leto has spent last season on loan at Olympiakos, after problems securing a work permit to play
in Britain and made 22 appearances for them.
Charles Itandje is persona non grata at Anfield after his regrettable behaviour during the
Hillsborough memorial service. His career is hanging by a thread and the vitriol being heaped upon
him is growing by the minute; but does he deserve such vilification? Take a look at the video
footage of his 'antics' and then vote in the poll.
Apparently Rafa doesn't have much in the way of cash, if only we could offload these guys!
If reports that I have been reading are accurate then we are in a bit of a financial pickle and
in order to bring in new players we need to offload those who really don't belong, such as these
four.

Not had a bad pre-season but then he has performed well in friendlies before and is by no means
likely to get a starting spot anytime soon.
Charles Itandje, the club's reserve goalkeeper, was reportedly caught by television cameras
laughing and fooling around during the service to mark the 20th anniversary of the deaths of 96
Liverpool supporters at Hillsborough, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Oh, dear.
Liverpool player Charles Itandje yesterday apologised for laughing and dancing during the
Hillsborough memorial service. He said sorry after he was suspended for two weeks over the antics,
which have outraged Liverpool fans, and told to keep away from the club. The reserve team
goalkeeper said he apologised "a thousand times" and offered to meet the families [.
You remember that stupid Liverpool reserve goalkeeper that fooled around during the Hillsborough
tragedy memorial service.
His name is Charles Itandje. He's an idiot and he said everyone's making too big a deal of what he
did.
"It is a 30-second video montage that was given senseless proportions.
Reading striker Simon Church during the season - with a view to signing him next year.
Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans has spoken to Rafa Benitez about the talented captain of Wales
Under-21s.
Evans, who is the Wales assistant boss, rates Church, 20, highly and has told Benitez to keep an
eye out for him in the Championship.
Tired of a lack of playing time at Anfield, Charles Itandje looks set to leave Liverpool before the
end of the summer transfer window next week.
French newspaper L'Equipe reports that Sporting Gijon have made a loan offer for the
goalkeeper.
Itandje is keen on a move from Anfield and since the arrival of Brazilian keeper Diego Cavalieri
has not even made the substitutes bench on a regular basis.
Liverpool goalkepper Charles Itandje has today attempted to defend himself after he was banned for
two weeks by the Merseyside.
The former French under-21 international was seen acting inappropriately during the club's memorial
service for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster earlier this week and has now been banned,
however Itandje feels the situation has been blown out of all proportion.
It was quite the busy weekend in the football world, wasn't it? And before I catch you up on the
weekend's biggest matches and stories, if you thought that Charles Itandje's ill-timed giggles were
bad, I can only imagine what you might think of how World Soccer Daily radio show host Steven Cohen
picked the absolute worst time to do his best Kelvin MacKenzie impression.
Hot on the heels of Robbie Keane being dumped on the scrapheap by Rafa Benitez, Ryan Babel is
seemingly on the way out of Liverpool after failing to hold down a first team spot. Who is to blame
for these two expensive players failing to make the grade at Anfield?
I recently argued that Benitez is to blame for the failure of Keane and Babel to fit in at Anfield;
the crux of my argument was based on the following facts:
1.
Rafa Benitez will have a £64million war chest to battle Manchester United.
And top of the Liverpool boss' summer agenda is to finally tie up an £8m deal to bring Gareth
Barry to Anfield when the season ends.
He will then off-load up to 11 squad players to cover the Barry deal and to generate more funds to
compete in the transfer market.
Why is he still employed by the club!
Liverpool keeper Charles Itandje is in talks with Greek club Panionios over a possible
switch from Anfield.
Itandje signed for the Reds in the summer of 2007 but has only made seven cup appearances for
the club and it has been made clear he does not figure in boss Rafa Benitez's plans.
Charles Itandje has been loaned out to Greek side Kavala FC; let's hope he doesn't ever return
to Anfield after his disgraceful show of disrespect at the Hillsborough memorial service.

Fingers crossed he never comes back!
The protracted departure of Charles Itandje from Liverpool could be nearing its
conclusion after reports in France claim the goalkeeper is set to join Greek outfit AO
Kavala.
Itandje is currently the Reds' fourth-choice stopper and is much disliked at Anfield following
inappropriate behaviour earlier this year at a memorial service for the victims of the Hillsborough
disaster.
Charles Itandje admits he could be tempted into securing a permanent move away from Liverpool.
The Reds keeper is currently taking in a season-long loan spell at Greek outfit Kavala, having been
deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.
His career on Merseyside appears to have come to an end, with Rafa Benitez now well-stocked in the
keeping department.

I had high hopes for Albert Riera when he first arrived from Espanyol but other than a couple of
decent games and a decent finish here and there I really have been consistently wanting more from

BACKGROUND BEFORE LFC
There's an old joke that Brazil win World Cups without a goalkeeper. Hopefully, Diego Cavalieri
would disagree with that, because when he left Palmeiras, he was playing second fiddle to Brazil's
Marcos, who was their shot-stopper when they won the World Cup in 2002.
Charles Itandje, 26, formerly of Racing Club de Lens, where he established his first-team
credentials, accumulating 170 first-team appearances in the league, has left Liverpool to join
Greek side Kavala on loan, according to the BBC.
The move, scheduled to be complete at the end of June 2010, was perhaps cemented in April last
season, when various members of Liverpool's congregation during the Hillsborough memorial service
complained about inappropriate behaviour from Itandje.
Please do not come back!

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez last week issued a hands-off warning to any potential suitors
looking to snap up Xabi Alonso, declaring that the Spanish international is no longer on the
market.
But according to The Daily Telegraph, Real Madrid, and in particular their potential future
president, Florentino Perez, have continued to pursue the 27-year-old, as the English broadsheet is
adamant that the ex-supremo, should he return to power, will be eager to see the Reds midfielder
link up with Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.
Liverpool reserve-team goalkeeper Charles Itandje has played down the furore surrounding his
behaviour at the Hillsborough memorial service.
The service took place on Wednesday and fans flocked to Anfield to pay their respects for the 96
supporters who lost their lives during the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham
Forest.
David Conn writes about Liverpool's mounting financial problems. Despite record revenues, LFC's
parent company, Kop Football came away with huge losses mainly through interest payments. Messrs
Tom Hicks and George Gilette have not quite delivered on their promises and although the club is
nowhere close to being foreclosed, the stadium plan is effectively on hold.
Former Liverpool chairman David Moores has resigned from the Club's Board of Directors. Moores
will, however, retain his position as Club Honorary Life President.
Moores, whose family became one of the richest in Britain with the creation of the Littlewoods
empire, took the role of chairman in 1991.

Charles Itandje still believes he didn't do too much wrong during the ceremony to commemorate the
20th anniversary of Hillsborough.
The disgraced French goalkeeper was shown laughing during the service at Anfield and was fined and
suspended before being sent on loan to Greek outfit Kavala.
