Today is the big day for the Jamie Carragher tributes, as the testimonial between the Liverpool
XI and Everton XI kicks off from Anfield at 14:00GMT and 9:00EST.
All proceeds from the match will benefit charities via the 23 Foundation, and a healthy crowd is
expected to attend. There's also plenty of big names attached you've no doubt heard Michael Owen is
set to return, but we'll also see Luis Garcia, Jerzy Dudek, Danny Murphy, and Jamie Redknapp in
action.
In 2006, Thierry Henry was named 9th most commercially marketable footballer in the world. So, it's
no surprise that Henry has endorsed numerous products and charities. The French men has prided
himself with a squeaky clean image, and the ability to keep his personal life private. This winning
combination has made him a favorite among international brands including the following.
People need to quit the concern, the fright, the fear mongering. Sure, it is designed around
being a General Admission event against a team with the most passionate supporters AGAINST Seattle,
but everyone involved is smart, and aware. I don't know if we are seeing concern trolling from the
anti-SG people online but the fret and worry is quite unnecessary.
Liverpool will play an Everton XI in Jamie Carragher's charity fund-raising testimonial match on 4
September.
The 32-year-old former England defender supported the Toffees as a boy before joining Liverpool's
youth set-up.
All proceeds from the game at Anfield will benefit local charities through Carragher's 23
Foundation.
A plethora of footy celebs have been opening their hearts, wallets and ill-advised closets
lately and we're always ones to applaud good work for a good cause. Plus, it doesn't hurt when
charities enlist pretty people to help make the world a better place.

The Blues will face the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Lockhart Stadium this Saturday August 14 at 7:30 pm.
The tailgate will start at about 5 pm for the more hardcore fans including live band A Beautiful

Expect a good crowd!
Ryan Giggs will be honoured with the freedom of the city of Salford today.
"Ryan is a role model to young people and a proud ambassador of the city," said
councillor John Warmisham. "He is the ideal candidate for freedom of the city. He does
tremendous work for Unicef in relation to children and other charities and has never forgotten his
Salford roots.
The news story of the day -- which could become the news story of the year in the Caribbean -- is
the major earthquake that struck just off the coast of Haiti this afternoon. I don't know what to
say about the earthquake and its aftermath; to say that it's bad is a severe understatement. There
are charities and agencies that do really good work, and here's a list of others.
2009 was a breakout year for Columbus Crew defender
Jed Zayner. The 25-year old
had appeared in just two Major League Soccer games coming into the season but emerged as a bonafide
heir apparent to Frankie Hejduk at right back. He recently signed a four-year contract extension
with the Crew.
If the rumours are true we could very well see Robin van Persie back for the last six premier
league matches of our season, not to mention the Champions League quarter final, semi final and
final, if we get there of course!!
The last six games are:-
Wolves H
Spuds -A
Wigan – A
Citeh – H
Blackburn A
Fulham – H
The Spuds game could be postponed if they get through to the FA Cup semi-final!

Dear MLS Fans -
Four years ago the San Jose Earthquakes relocated and became the Houston Dynamo. As a professional
soccer player, coming to Houston was part of the job, but in the four years since, it has become
more than just somewhere to play – it has become my home.
I have been provided with great opportunities to get involved and give back to the community that
has embraced our team.
As many of you are probably aware by now, David Beckham injured his achilles in a match for AC
Milan during the weekend. The injury has removed Beckham from the England World Cup squad and will
force him to miss the rest of the Serie A season. If Beckham is able to return at any point this
season it would be in the fall for the end of the MLS season with the LA Galaxy.
JOHANNESBURG As travel prices to South Africa remained high, World Cup tickets sales remained
low. Now, more than 130,000 World Cup tickets have been sold and both the semifinals and final
are sold out.
Also, FIFA has announced that of the 64 World Cup matches, 29 have been sold out.
Some matches such as South Jorea vs.
We don't normally do promotion or advertising on this blog, and I've turned down offers of
sponsorship, but I feel like this case deserves a special mention. Mark Allison, a Geordie lad, is
running across the United States next year for Charity. It's difficult to comprehend just how far
that is, and the total distance is 3,100 miles.

Former NBA player Manute Bol passed away on Saturday at 47. The 7-foot-7 Sudanese shot blocker
had a 10-year NBA career, but it was his humanitarian work in Africa where he made his mark. Bol
donated millions of dollars to freedom fighters and children's charities in his homeland, building
schools and hospitals.
The football-mad owners of a leading eco-fashion brand have used their specialisation in organic
textiles to create a new football shirt that is lighter, more breathable, kind-to-skin and more
eco-friendly than typical oil-based synthetic tops.
"The great thing about using eco-fabrics in sportswear is that often they are softer, more
breathable, and stretchier than their synthetic counterparts.

This World Cup has allowed many charities to increase awareness about their goals. One
charity that has already got around 10 million folks who have joined their cause is
1goal. A host of footballs elite are supporting this campaign, but it is
the support of two cousins from Milwaukee, USA that initially got my attention.
Good to see something solid in black and white about the Tory revisionism
So is the big society a romantic Tory aspiration or cynical political sophistry? Follow the money
and the story unfolds. Far from finding themselves cherished, charities are taking a hard hit from
the first round of cuts.

I think I'm a little unclear on the concept of the charity competition MLS and Pepsi are putting
on.
At first I was a little skeeved out by the competition aspect, although that's what intrigued me in
the first place. "MLS teams do charitable works" isn't very suspenseful.
But what if someone takes their on-field hatred a little too far?
Liverpool Football Club has succeeded in its long-held ambition to trademark the Liver bird, the
symbol of the city of Liverpool.
Liverpool FC's plan was met with some resistance when the English Premier League (EPL) club
announced their intentions some two years ago. And, after talks with Liverpool Council, the club
initially agreed to abandon their bid.
It was supposedly only 2 days between our match at the Anoeta and our return to the Bernabeu to
face Espanyol but it sure as hell felt like longer than that. And then some... And I blame the
media for it... as if our dour & dull performance last weekend wasn't enough..

Mourinho & Portugal IssuesMourinho's tenure at Real Madrid is merely a few months
old.
So, following up on the whole Pepsi Refresh thing, the days leading up to the final vote had me
fearing the worst, with Jimmy Conrad playing up the competition aspect something fierce all over
the Facebook and the Twitter, with Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle and God knows who all else
getting into the act.
With each passing game new FC Dallas CEO Doug Quinn does something I wish more clubs would take
on. He challenges the other club's front office in a friendly wager for season tickets for local
charities. So far as you're probably aware Dallas is doing pretty well in getting season tickets
for it's local organizations.
Candor in player interviews is a rare thing in football these days, almost like they're
pre-programmed with multiple choice answers from which to choose, not really mattering if the
answer is relevant or not, but making sure it's the least inflammatory.
Except for one man.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto has done this before and he's likely to do it again.
The 23 Foundation aims to give local kids in Merseyside a chance to achieve their dreams through
local charities, clubs and community initiatives by providing the means to make a difference.
That is whether it be helping local kids recover from illness or helping to provide a framework for
achieving their goals!

It's easy to forget that Arsenal is more than just a football club, particularly when we have
recently suffered disappointment on the pitch. Arsenal is part of the community and affects
people's lives worldwide. Peaches and I were reminded of this last night when attending the book
launch of Arsenal 'Til I Die at the Emirates Stadium.
In The Stands is committed to helping charities gain exposure to you, the beautiful
football public. So we hope you have enjoyed your Christmases and are now feeling generous and
will have a look into doing some volunteer work with Vinspired...
With many notable footballers making headlines for all the wrong reasons recently, it is
good to see that some players are keeping up the image of the nation's favourite sport by doing
valuable work off the field.
