As international week rumbles on and as we find ourselves exhaling with anger at Sepp Blatter's
sudden imposition of a seeding system on the World Cup play offs, as well as cringing with
embarrassment at the vast improvement brought about on the Beeb's Football League show by replacing
Championship with League One, Bhasin with Chapman, and Claridge with Rosenior, an idle moment has
found me

Since the start of the new season, there has hardly been week go by that hasn't seen a full
roster of midweek matches take place. This, however, hasn't ever been thus and until surprisingly
recently football under floodlights was all but barred by the Football Association. Much as many of
us feel that three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon is the "natural" home for matches, there remains
something special about matches played in the evening.

Anfield Red 29 September @ 08:11 AM EST
Today marks the 28th anniversary of the death of Bill Shankly. It's really hard to believe it
has been that long. Unlike most of you, I never had the privilege of watching Shankly in person. My
age made it impossible, so I've instead been watching tape of the man for the last 20+ years of my
life.

Good to see some more news popping up around Australia.
In Victoria, at the Geelong Advertiser, new Victory defender Rita Mankowska has been out doing
player visits. She's come back from the American College system to play for Melbourne this year.
More here.
Further North at the Coffs Coast Advocate, there is even an opinion piece (well it doesn't say
'comment' but implies it) about how there girls should get a shot.

A few local types in Canberra complain and rant about girls from Dubbo getting a go in the Canberra
United W-League team.
Their logic is clearly flawed in my view. So only players from a town or city which has a W-League
team can play for that team. Should we kick out Ulladulla's Cian Maciejweski, Albury born Amy
Chapman and Albury resident Ellie Brush or do the rules not apply for them?

A day or so ago we touched on the subject that this years kits are the worst home and away kits
I can remember us ever having.
The home kit in my opinion is wrong, Herbert Chapman changed our kit in the early 1930's and put
white sleeves on and in my opinion that is our traditional colours, not a wide red stripe on the
sleeves.

The season ended for us with a 4-1 stroll in the Islington sunshine against StokeCity.

It now appears that Arsène Wenger will not be house-hunting in <?xml:namespace prefix =

programme Téléfoot, extensively covered both here and in the Spanish sports dailies
As and Marca really set some hares running.

That's not a typo - but I'm morose as well, after Rebecca Moros scored for the Freedom against
the Breakers, and all the blue team could come up with was a tie in yesterday's match. I am sure
that they wanted to pull off the win against the Abby-less Freedom ... and with Maren Meinert
there, no less.

Matildas Star: Amy Chapman in action
Matildas Stars Caitlin Munoz and Amy Chapman will be taking a number of Majura girls teams through
their paces at training tonight.
And it's great to see the stars giving their time to our future players. And unlike the men they
don't have a full time salary from football, so it's an extra effort for these players.

Yeah, I know it's been quiet around here lately. But frankly, there hasn't been much that I've felt
like writing about. I'm choosing to ignore Toronto FC's terrible run of form, and the transfer
window is no more exciting than it was a month ago, which is to say, not at all.
But finally, we have some games that actually matter.

A club's colours and kit are a fundamental part of their tradition and heritage; indeed many would
recognise a team because of their uniform before their badge. Take my side, Arsenal, and the
introduction of their famous white sleeves back n the 1930's. Manager Herbert Chapman introduced
white sleeves to the previously all-red Arsenal [.

Enjoyable evening of Futsal last night at the Shrine Mosque on St Louis Street. The Springfield
Demize put on an exhibition game that included a number of former MSU players with a nice mix of
high school players who showed well. In particular, Ozark Tiger keeper Jason Taylor manned one net
and helped his Storm team earn the win when he blocked two of the three PK's taken in an Overtime
Shootout.
