The Kansas City Wizards 2 Generation Adidas players will be making their way over to South Africa
with the rest of an MLS Generation Adidas team. Roger Espinoza and Chance Myers were both named to
the team that will leave later this month for a 10 day tour of the World Cup hosting country.
Espinoza and Myers will be competing in 3 games against Premier Soccer League reserve teams,
including Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates.

Been really busy lately and did not get a few interviews posted like I should have. Sorry about
that the delay...First up is Jimmy Conrad, I talked to him right after he got back to Kansas City
from his time with the National Team. He talks about being in Honduras when the US qualified for
the World Cup, the last qualifier with Costa Rica and his chances on being on the World Cup squad.

It's bad enough we have had a horrible season. It's bad enough that we played basically the same
lineup that has given us little to cheer about throughout the season (with Zusi and Zoltan being
the exceptions). Saturday we decided to give the Sounders some help by giving away 3 goals on big
mistakes.

Yes Kansas City played better yesterday than their last game against Colorado; yes they could
have won to keep the slim playoff hopes alive. But NO we didn't win; no we didn't finish off a team
that played almost 70 minutes a man down and missing one of their best players; no, we aren't that
much better with Peter Vermes than we were with Curt Onalfo; and no Peter Vermes should NOT survive
the house cleaning that should take place in KC this offseason.

Claudio Lopez made his 50th league appearance for the Wizards.
Herculez Gomez made his 100th start in all competitions in his MLS career.
The red card to Chance Myers was the 13th issued in a Wizards league game this year, setting a new
team record for red cards issued in a season, breaking a tie with the 1998 season.

Chance Myers will be available for this weekend's game against the San Jose Earthquakes. Myers, who
has missed the entire year so far after breaking his fifth metatarsal, was removed from the
disabled list today. The Wizards did not have to waive anyone to make room on the roster for Myers,
as he fills the developmental roster spot vacated by Nelson Pizarro when he left the team back in
May.

The guys went through a light session this morning before departing for San Jose. One thing of
note, defender/midfielder Chance Myers has been removed from the Disabled List and is available for
selection Saturday should Peter Vermes feel he is ready for game action. Kronberg and Souter remain
on the DL.

Zoltan - Wolff
Adam Cristman apparently missed the game due to being sick, while Davy Arnaud, Claudio Lopez, and

This week, Rauwshan McKenzie and Chance Myers were the two top vote getters in the poll here and on
The Back Post. So this week, Thad was able to get an interview with both second year players.
Check out both the McKenzie and the Myers interviews over at The Back Post.

Chance Myers and Rauwshan McKenzie received the most votes this week. I was able to talk to Chance
after practice and before he went for another run.

You know Davy Arnaud is not a stuck up star when you see him carrying the goal for other players to
use...Of course on the other side is World Cup veteran Claudio Lopez...Davy and Claudio sat out
parts of practice to rest and heal nagging injuries. They both participated in some activities and
rested during others.

Made it out to practice today and along with the interview with Kevin Hartman, I thought I'd throw
out a few observations from practice today. First, the Wizards 3 long term injuries, Eric Kronberg,
Chance Myers, and Adam Cristman all continue to recover and get closer to actually being back.
Kronberg today was actually able to do some light diving during some keeper drills today.

Second-year defender/midfielder Chance Myers has been featured by CosmoGirl.com in their "sexy
soccer studs" photo gallery and poll. Head over to the gallery to see each of the 15 players they
picked out for their feature. As you'll see, Chance is the first one to appear in the gallery.
The Reuters sports blog Left Field picked up the story today, also using a picture of Chance in
their write-up.

Chance is the Wizards representative on the Cosmogirl hot soccer guys list. I do not read Cosmo
girl, I saw that Duane at The 24th Minute found the hot soccer guy list. Should Jimmy be jealous
now? This is a photo I took for one of the Wizards interns last year. Chance was limping off from a
Reserve game.

It's early in the season, but already Kansas City is suffering through some major injury issues on
their team. Before the season even really got started, the Wizards were already missing 3 players
that were expected to be on the opening day 18 man roster. Eric Kronberg, Chance Myers, and Adam
Cristman all missed the start of the season due to surgery of some kind.

I made it out to the Wizards afternoon practice yesterday to see how the team looked with the
season a little over 2 weeks away. Overall, the team looked sharp in their small sided drill they
were doing when I showed up yesterday. All but 3 of the players are currently training. Two of
those missing are long term injuries to Chance Myers and Eric Kronberg.

Last years number 1 overall pick, Chance Myers can't seem to catch a break. He came into this
season preparing to battle fellow second year man, Jonathan Leathers for the starting right back
position, but now all that is put on hold. Hillcrest Road is reporting that Myers will miss 10-12
weeks after he had surgery on his foot to repair a broken fifth metatarsal that he broken in
Florida.

Here's the latest:
Second-year defender Chance Myers will miss 10-12 weeks of action after surgery this Friday to
repair a fracture of his fifth metatarsal. Myers suffered the injury while training in Bradenton,
Fla. and will not accompany his teammates to Guadalajara, Mexico. Myers has fought injuries
frequently in his short career, including a bout with mononucleosis in 2008 that caused him to miss
most of the final half of the season.

Tomorrow is the final practice of the latest Kansas City stint before the team departs Wednesday
for Guadalajara and training at the facilities of partner club Atlas AC. The boys will begin at 11
a.m., with practice usually lasting between 80-100 minutes. Head on out if you can. There was quite
a nice crowd Friday when Hillcrest was able to get out of the office to see training live.

The Wizards won their first game of the preseason today, as they beat the US U-17 team 7-0 today
down in Florida. Hillcrest Road has write ups on each of the goals and the lineups for each half.
In goal for the U-17's was Wizards' Juniors' player, Jon Kempin. Players getting goals today were
Kevin Souter and Aaron Hohlbein in the first half, with Nelson Pizarro, Chance Myers, trailist
Ferenc Béres (more on him later) getting two, and Michael Kraus.

After a first half in which the U-17s were "buzzing around a lot", they got a bit tired
in the second half and the Wizards expectedly punished them. We tacked on five in the second half
in the first game-like action of the 2009 campaign.
2nd half lineupPardo (Kevin
Guppy 60); Zavagnin, Conrad (Myers 60), Besler, McKenzie; Pizarro (right not left as previously
indicated), Watson, Hungarian trialist, Zusi; Kraus, Lopez
Goals55th- Zavagnin
played through ball for Nelson Pizarro who slotted home from just outside the 6.

It's the offseason, which means all my statistical stuff comes back out in full force. To start it
all off, let's have a look back at the Wizards 2008 draft. In the two drafts, the Wizards had a
total of 10 picks, including two in the first round of the Superdraft.
1(1) - Chance Myers - Myers, a Generation Adidas player, appeared in only 10 league games in his
rookie campaign, totaling 681 minutes played.

wanted to correct that. Chance Myers after playing in the reserve game with NY...

"Mono, isn't that the kissing disease?"
Showing up at the reserve game on Sunday, I noticed that Wizards number 1 draft pick, Chance Myers
was wearing street clothes. Which is something I found weird, considering he hadn't played the
night before, I'd expected him to play a full 90 minutes against Toronto's reserves.

Several Wizards have been included in stories in the last couple of days that we haven't yet linked
up.
First, Chance Myers and Roger Espinoza were touted as two of "tomorrow's All-Stars" by
Ives Galarcep at ESPNSoccernet.com. Read it. (Chance was also featured in the picture.)
Next, Davy Arnaud got some love from Port Arthur, home of West Texas A&M, where Davy terrorized
opponents for three collegiate seasons.

The Wizards got a dramatic winner against their sister club Atlas last night out at Community
America Ballpark. Michael Kraus put in a rebound from an almost impossible angle after Atlas'
keeper, Pedro Hernandez, blocked a shot by Nelson Pizarro in the 91st minute to give the Wizards
the win.
The Wizards started almost the same team from the Open Cup game against Seattle, the only change
was Pizarro replacing Kraus.

Its about that time of the month again to update the rookie watch list. Since our last update a

understanding [...]

I realize it's been well over a month since I last updated this watch list. For good reason too, there was no need early on to update this kind of a list from week to week. That will come more in handy once we hit late August and September here. But since summer is starting [...]

G'day to you back in KC (and wherever else our loyal readers reside), Albuquerque is a pretty
scenic city. We're staying in a hotel called the Nativo Lodge. As you might guess, it is
Native-American themed, and it's definitely something to see. We arrived around 8 local time last
night and started our stay with an excellent dinner.

Seeing Wizards supplemental draft pick, Vincente Arze named to the USL team of the week, I got to

Chance Myers - Super Draft 1(1) - Missed the first game and a half due to injury, but since then
has played almost every minute.
