Things seemed to be slipping away for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Tied at one heading into stoppage time, it looked as if the Galaxy's chances of advancing to the
group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League Tournament would end at the hands of Monarcas
Morelia. But all it needed was one chance.
- Jason Davis Where have I been, you might be asking. What have I been up to, you've surely
thought. How come the frequency of MFUSA post has so much in common with the frequency of Chad
Barrett goals, you can't help but wonder. Well, I'll tell you. There's just a lot going on that
keeps me from writing here as often as I'd like.
A muggy night, a sparse crowd (hello, prep football) and Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena has the squad
rotation in full effect.
Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts returns from injury for his first start since June, Bryan Jordan
slots in at right back for his second start of the season, Paolo Cardozo starts up front in his
third start of the season and Chad Barrett is alongside him for his first start since, um,
Monday.
And down the stretch they come! As the playoffs get closer, games matter more. The LA Galaxy,
leaders in the Supporters' Shield race, take on the reigning MLS Cup Champions - the Colorado
Rapids.
1 - Cardozo sizzles a shot wide - opportunistic, but off-target.
3 - Kyle's Keys for the game don't include any inside dirt from his days as a Galaxy player.
Over the years, the Colorado Rapids had enjoyed success against the Los Angeles Galaxy at the
Home Depot Center.
The Rapids had beaten the Galaxy in its last three visits to the stadium, with one of them being
a US Open Cup match, which Colorado won in a penalty shootout. This time however, LA made sure the
result was to their liking.
When Galaxy coach Bruce Arena trotted out a different-looking lineup against Colorado, it wasn't
just with Colorado in mind.
Sure, Chad Barrett and Paolo Cardozo did well against the Rapids but playing the likes of Barrett,
Cardozo, Bryan Jordan and Donovan Ricketts allowed for the Galaxy to rest up some players for
Tuesday's match against Morelia.

No David Beckham. No Robbie Keane. No Landon Donovan (until the second half). And no goals until
second half stoppage time when the Galaxy stole the victory in a not particularly noteworthy
game.
A Donovan shot was parried by Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer into the path of Chad Barrett who
snapped up the chance to give the Galaxy three unexpected points after a long road trip.

WASHINGTON -- The Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake both trotted out reserve-laden lineups
Saturday night, aiming to preserve fresh legs through a congested schedule while hoping to eke out
road results in the thick of the postseason hunt.
*Add Chris Birchall (left hamstring strain) to the growing Galaxy injury list released today.
The midfielder, who has made 21 appearances for the Galaxy this season, is listed as questionable
for Wednesday's game against Morelia, along with the same players who remain in that category from
Friday's update: David Beckham (back spasms), Robbie Keane (right gluteus tightness) and goalkeeper
Donovan Ricketts (right quad tightness).
