The services of striker Diego Milito were lost for the season against CFR Cluj in a 2-0 win during the first leg of the Europe League. While Inter Milan may have won the battle, CFR Cluj has won the war.

The thought of heading to Transylvania this week may scare a few people, particularly fans of Bram Stoker novels. But should Manchester United be frightened?

What's the story?

EPL champions Manchester City face the toughest  group draw for the second season in a row. Group D contains 4 domestic league champions, something of a rarity in the modern incarnation of this tournament. The transfer market was quite busy yesterday and so we are going to sort through those comings and goings before doing our group-by-group previews.

Ah yes, a good old fashioned group of death(tm)! Thursday's Champions League draw didn't do Premier League champions Man City any favours, with the Citizens paired with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax, all champions of their respective leagues.

The playoff round is the final hurdle for teams hoping to join the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. Some of the hopeful teams like  Luxembourg's F91 Dudelange started way back on the 10th of July with the First Qualification Round, making it all the way to the Third Qualification Round before being overpowered by NK Maribor of Slovenia.

It's good to know that there will be three sides from the Serie A in the Champions League round of 16 representing Italy. While AC Milan and Inter Milan had already secured their qualification mathematically for the knockout stages of the tournament, there was still a doubt whether Roma would manage to get the needed result, and move on to the next round.

The UEFA Champion's League draw went down today.... and let's just say that PSG, Barcelona and United made out like bandits.

Madrid, Man City and Dortmund .... not to mention Ajax. Yeah, they'll be battling each other in the next round. Better have plenty of team depth.

The draw for the Champions League group stages takes place today. There is the potential for a group of death for some clubs, with the Champions of Spain in pot 1, Champions of England in pot 2, champions of Italy in pot 3 and the Champions of Germany in pot 4.

Pot One: Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Porto, AC Milan.

Running down the list of the teams which won league titles in 2010, there was an unsurprising common thread: all had some amount of history or significant financial clout. In short: it was unsurprising that they were unsurprising. In the age of the rich getting richer, the rich also get the trophies.

Real Madrid, Milan, Bayern Munich & Chelsea have qualified out of the lower bracket, and we await the other 4 from Wednesday's games to fill out the knock out stage list.

Arsenal are being linked with a summer move for Uruguay defender and reported Liverpool target Alvaro Pereira.
The Porto full back has been linked with a move away from the Estádio do Dragão following the departure of Andre Villas-Boas, with Juventus also thought to be keen on the 25-year-old.
