Reacción no alcanza

Benfica vs. Lyon: Wanted, a Moral Boosting Win. Or Any Win. Please?

The Offside - Olympique Lyonnais at related • 0 views

I'm going to keep this preview short because in the two weeks since these sides last met, Lyon haven't improved (they might have un-improved a little bit, actually). So there's really no point in goring through all the stats and shit. To do a quick recap, Lyon tied to Arles (which until last weekend, I didn't think was even possible), lost to PSG in the League Cup (which I'm going to pretend doesn't count for anything), and beat Sochaux.

Video: CL semi-final: Olic's hattrick fires Bayern into the CL finals

Ivica Olic, the Croatian striker scored a perfect hattrick with his right foot, left foot, and a header as Bayern swamped hapless Lyon.

The Bavarian giants have proved time and time again in their CL campaign that they are second to none when it comes to scoring big goals.

An early exit on the cards for Liverpool?

Soccer On Dish at related • 2 views

If English giants and 2005 winners Liverpool lose to Lyon in France on Wednesday night their Champions League dreams could be all but over. Should Fiorentina beat Hungarian outfit Debrecen (a very likely occurrence) Liverpool will be six points adrift with just two games left.

It makes for grim reading for the Anfield faithful, with their Premier League title hopes in tatters the Champions League represents a great chance for them to pick up some silverware and an exit in the group stages is virtually unthinkable.

Lyon’s groin epidemic

There's an unstoppable groin-pocalypse going on at Lyon right now and no one is immune to its devastation. From Reuters:

Olympique Lyon have been hit by a series of groin injuries with keeper Hugo Lloris, defenders Jean-Alain Boumsong, Aly Cissokho, Mathieu Bodmer, Cleber Anderson, Cris, midfielders Cesar Delgado, Jeremy Toulalan, Kim Kallstrom and striker Lisandro Lopez all suffering from the same problem before their trip to arch-rivals St Etienne on Saturday.

Since so much has been said about yesterday's game, I'm not going to go too much into it. I just wanted to say how proud I am of my team. We've been waiting for this win for a long time. It might just be the group stages, but the biggest criticism of Lyon has been that they've been unable to defeat a big team away from home.

I felt terrible that I wasn't able to put up a real match preview last night, but now that I think about it, it wouldn't be much different from the Lyon vs. BeÅŸiktaÅŸ preview. No significant news coming out of the OL camp except that Lisandro Lopez and Cesar Delgado will remain on the sidelines (Puel doesn't want to risk their healing bodies on a friendly), and Jean-Alain Boumsong will also be getting rest.

Lyon Can Finally Fly Straight Again: OL's New Winger Swoops into Town, Hopefully to Take Us to New Heights.

No, it's not a Ferrari nor Beluga caviar, it's a Brazilian winger. Like and injured bird, OL's left wing- along with a slew of other issues- hindered it's abilitiy to fly as strong as it was capable of, but now it's finally healed, stronger than ever, and ready for lift-off.

News is slow and I felt like writing about something, so I thought I'd bring everybody up to speed on OL's injuries, since this weekend we play AS Nancy and next week we're off to Bayern for match day 2 of the CL next Tuesday. There is good and bad news.

The BAD:

Juninho: Juni had an MRI this week and was diagnosed with a strained adductor.

Have you heard about that cool new European competition?

The Offside - Liverpool at related • 0 views

Surely there are hundreds of clubs who would be envious to take part in the Europa League (and I think hundreds of teams started in the competition), but for Liverpool this is surely the capstone on a month of disappointment.

The win at Debrecen was anything but a foregone conclusion, with Liverpool needing to scramble to escape with the 1-0 win.

It's international week, so things are rather quiet on the Lyon front. Here's what's been going on:

Fabio Grosso is back in training and is expected to play against Lille on October 18th. This is good news because if he does well, he play against Steaua a few days later.

Last week, Lyon Foot published a hot collection of Lyon players with tattoos. It's a different sort of look at OL players, whose reputations normally come across as nice family guys. Which they still are, but sometimes we like to pretend they can be badass.

For me, the biggest surprise was Anthony Mounier.
