Last night Juan Carlos Valerón watched his side's latest collapse from his new position: the bench. Sadly, it looks like the career of football's more delicate talents of the last couple of decades is going to end in sadly subdued circumstances.

Zaragoza moved up to 11th place with their first home win of the season. Osasuna did level the match at 1-1 but were conceded an own goal just before halftime.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two second-half goals to give Real Madrid a 2-1 win at Celta Vigo. But when Mesut Ozil swapped shirts with a Celta player and then tossed the jersey he was given into the stands as he headed for tunnel with Jose Mourinho he apparently committed a scandalous act in the eyes of some people.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid all won again at the weekend, with the Catalans maintaining their 12-point lead at the top of La Liga and the two capital clubs vying for the runners-up spot. A more intriguing drama is the unfolding battle for the fourth Champions League place with no less than five sides in contention.

New Granada boss Lucas Alcaraz should retire now as it is all downhill from here. In his first game in charge at Granada, Alcaraz saw his side pulled off a shock victory over Real Madrid at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

Osasuna's win over Celta Vigo earlier today meant Granada had dropped into the bottom three by kick-off, but they climbed out again thanks to an own goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the lastest of his sporadic appearances for Real Madrid, Kaka was booked twice and sent off just 18 minutes after coming on in the second half of Saturday's 0-0 draw against last-place Osasuna. He was first booked for an elbow and his second was for impeding Osasuna's attempt at a quick free kick in the 75th minute.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a couple of crackers on his way to yet another hat-trick as Real Madrid reversed their Copa Del Rey last-16 first leg defeat against Celta Vigo by coasting to a 4-0 yomp in the Bernabeu on Wednesday night Sami Khedira steering the fourth home with a couple of minutes left to play.

Real Madrid succinctly overturned a 1-2 first-legdeficitto beat Celta Vigo 4-0 in the second leg of their Copa Del Rey last-16 fixture at the Bernabeu last night, with Cristiano Ronaldo sticking away a routine hat-trick just for the sheer hell of it.

As well as keeping his imperious goals-to-game ratio intact, Ronaldo was also the source of a spectacular mini tantrum for Jose Mourinho, who suffered a small reactor core meltdown when Ronaldo was 'tripped' on the edge of the area only for the free-kick calls to be quashed by the officials.

Shortly after the release of Marca poll results that show 61.6 percent of participating Real Madrid members think Jose Mourinho is damaging to the club's image, he snapped a bit during the club's Copa del Rey second-leg tie against Celta Vigo. Real Madrid trailed 3-0 after the first leg, but two first-half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo (including this beauty) got the home side back in it and Mourinho started to taste the redemption.

Despite being nominated for the Best Men's Coach award at the Ballon d'Or 2012, Jose Mourinho decided not to travel to Switzerland for the ceremony. On Saturday, the Real Madrid manager claimed he would not attend because he needed to prepare for Wednesday evening's Copa del Rey round of 16 second leg clash with Celta Vigo, in which Los Blancos must overcome a 2-1 deficit.

Unsurprisingly Barcelona and Real Madrid dominated Spanish football in 2012. Barca accumulated over 100 points, whilst Real Madrid were ten points behind their bitter rivals. Interestingly during 2012 Valencia and Rayo Vallecano picked up the same number of points as each other, however Valencia drew 10 of their games, Vallecano drew just one a goalless game with Sevilla in September.

If there was any doubt that Pepe was the human embodiment of football violence in its most experimental and ever-changing forms, the first leg of Real Madrid's Copa del Rey round of 16 tie against Celta Vigo likely put it to rest. With Celta up 1-0 in the second half (they eventually won 2-1), Pepe kicked backwards in a moment of frustration, delivering a backheel directly to Soto Roberto Lago's crotch.

Lionel Messi made headlines once again as he scored a club record 15th Liga hat-trick for Barcelona in a thrilling 5-4 win against Deportivo La Coruña. Meanwhile, Chelsea shone in England, Paris Saint-Germain went top in France and Bayern Munich set a Bundesliga record.

Lionel Messi is almost a one-man team as his 21st hat-trick for the club gave Barca a sensational 5-4 win at Deportivo La Coruña on Saturday night.

A day after the birth of his first child, Lionel Messi hoped to score a goal (or five) to dedicate to his newborn son in Barcelona's match against Celta Vigo. Though Barca extended their unbeaten start to 10 matches with a 3-1 win, the likely exhausted Messi was kept off the scoresheet.

Perhaps it was combination of the emotions of the last 48 hours and his rare inability to score, but when Celta Vigo's Jonathan Vilma broke up one of his attacks on goal, Messi responded by delivering a weak punch to Vilma's back.

Barcelona winger Pedro will be out of commission for the next 10 days after injuring his calf during Spain's 1-0 World Cup qualifier victory over France.

The 25-year-old, who scored the game-winner for his country, was subbed off in the 77th minute on Tuesday.

It isn't unusual for someone to have a beer (or 20) before a football match, but that someone usually isn't usually a participant sitting on the bench. Yet, cameras caught Celta Vigo midfielder Enrique de Lucas having a small beer before his side's 4-1 loss to Sevilla on Monday -- a game in which he entered as a substitute in the 75th minute.

South Korean international Park-Chu-Young played more minutes in London this summer at the Olympic Games than he has in his entire career with Arsenal. Now according to several reports it appears that the Gunners have written the 27-year-old striker off at a cost of £5.5 million.

Park was bought by manager Arsene Wenger from French club Monaco on transfer deadline day in 2011, perhaps as a panic buy.
