The Offside 25 October @ 10:38 PM EST
This has been a fantastic weekend to hate somebody and wish him ill almost everywhere around the
world. As Daryl pointed out earlier, this weekend's fixture calendar was overflowing with big
derbies and heated rivalries including three different flavored clasicos, inter-city and
intercontinental matches.

CSKA Sofia made themselves popular with Sepp Blatter today by announcing a policy of Bulgarian
players only. Not so much 6+5 as 11+0. CSKA finished second to Levski Sofia in the Bulgarian
league, missing out on the title by just one point. And so now they're making some changes. "From
now on our policy will be to [.

Those who doubted that his loan would be anything more than a loan were wrong.

MLS Rumors 23 December @ 01:51 PM EST
"Yeah but MLS Rumors is always wrong."
Remember way, way back on Nov. 10, with we brought you this rumor that Francisco
"Panchito" Mendoza, CD Chivas USA's young Mexican midfielder would be headed south of the
border to the "Mothership" CD Guadalajara? Of course old school MLSR readers know there
had been rumors going back further than that, like this one from early January 2008.

Our good friends of MLS en Espanol sent us this email moments ago...
Hey guys,
I just posted something on my blog that I found in El Informador about Francisco
Mendoza leaving Chivas USA to play for Chivas de Guadalajara next season. Mendoza would join the
team the second week of December in Baja California for preseason. Click to continue reading...
Three North American Clubs will take part in the Copa Sudamericana, a UEFA Cup of sorts for South
America. Chivas de Guadalajara and San Luis of Mexico both qualify as the best two teams from
Clausura 2008 that did not qualify for this season's Champions League, and Motagua of Honduras
which qualified via the 2008 CONCACAF Champion's Cup.

Samuel Eto'o scored two, Xavi, Hleb, and Caceres put in one each to give Barcelona the 5-2 victory
over CD Guadalajara in front of 40,717 at Soldier Field Sunday.
CD Guadlajara battled valiantly as Jesus scored for Chivas in the 59th minute...Jesus Padilla that
is...as well as an 88th minute header from Javier Hernandez, but by then it was much too little
much too late as Barca had stamped their authority.

If your travels will take you anywhere near Soldier Field or Giants Stadium early next month, then
you have to try and score tickets to one of the two friendlies the Catalonian greats have
planned.

chartered jet in Chicago around 2:00PM on Thursday 31 July.

Major League Soccer, the league with no team that wants to make the playoffs. Out of five games,
all five were draws, which doesn't make things interesting for the weekly rankings.
The top two teams in the rankings did poorly in the SuperLiga this week; neither made it to the
knockout stages.

And with that, the Houston Dynamo sit on top of 2008 SuperLiga's Group A standings and will be
followed in to the semi finals by second place finisher and Mexican league stand outs, Atlante.
The Dynamo ensured DC United's exit tonight with a 3-1 victory while Atlante dispatched fellow
Primera División side CD Guadalajara 2-0 to secure the second place spot.

Group A played the 2nd round of games yesterday and neither of our MLS teams fared very well.
Chivas scored the only goal of the game to beat Houston 1-0. This put Chivas into the semifinals.
Atlante secured a 3-2 victory over DC United which ensures that DC United has no chance at the
semi-finals.

Just shy of 29,000 were in attendance last night at Robertson Stadium to find out which of these
two sides would rise to the top of Group A.
After a dominating performance over Atlante, many Dynamo fans were I'm sure hoping that orange
would carry the day; however an Omar Arellano strike in the 71st minute dashed those hopes and
instead, the Mexican league side, CD Guadalajara is in the best seat.

Interesting stuff going on in the world of North American soccer this weekend.
On Thursday Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy both turned down the Western Conference lead while playing
to a very entertaining 1-1 draw. Only one of the four teams that could take the conference lead
with a win did, with Real Salt Lake taking the top spot.

It was a game of two halves, wasn't it? That, or a game of two hit posts and a missed
penalty.
United fell 2-1 to Chivas de Guadalajara tonight at RFK Stadium in its first game in Group A

If we want a positive spin, it's this. Everything went wrong from United, and they only lost by
a goal. Twice shots rattled off the woodwork. A Jaime Moreno penalty was saved. The first Chivas
goal was a result of Clyde Simms and Bryan Namoff falling down one second and twenty yards apart.
The second was some muddled attempt at breaking out.

A lot is riding on the SuperLiga match tomorrow between these two traditional powers.
For Guadalajara, they have never won a match at RFK Stadium despite being very close on at least
one occasion.
For DC United, they are looking to test the mettle of an in-season, in-form United squad vs their
international rival who they seem to meet in every competition, CONCACAF, Copa Sudamericana and now
SuperLiga.

D.C. UNITED ELIMINATED ON AWAY GOALS
For a time, I thought that it could work. That the strategy of playing a strong, defensive shape
and locking down the game might see us through. I didn't think it was possible entering the match.
I thought United needed one more goal to ice the game.
